My worst job was....
Hey, everyone, lets see what kind of responses we could get with this post..i will answer..
my worst job was telemarketing..who knows maybe one of you guys hung up on me when i called your house trying to sell cable..LOL... :) |
my worst job
was my very first job.
McDonalds!! i was the Fry Girl. all i did was cook french fries all day long. i quit after 3 paychecks |
I did both. Love MC D's. Hated telemarketing. I never felt so much rejection in my life :(
|
Sorry, Soror that you had a bad McDonald's experience. Knowing that company like I do you should have been rotated to learn something else.
My worst job was Burger King. They never trained me. They just told me to put the pickles on and then gave me a broom and a mop. I quit 2 days later! |
I feel you all on the telemarketing...I did it for a week and quit. The money and the rude customers weren't worth the time and stress.
|
Sorhors and sisterfriends,
My worst job was working on the front line and second line at good ole - Roy Rogers. We had to wear these horrible cow girl straw hats with these denim wrap around skirts and white shoes with thick nylons. The pay was terrible and you smelled like their nasty roast beer at the end of the work day! Serioussigma22:eek: |
my worst job was
I worked for UPS one summer so that I could buy my first car. The place felt like a boiler room and I had to unload trucks, (at that time I was about 110 pounds), so a lot of the packages weighed at least half my weight and more. I can also understand the sucky time of working for McDonalds.....(HORRIBLE). I would get teased by my friends and family for smelling like fries:D

My worst job was....
Working in an animal hospital....in the kennel! Although I love animals to death....smelling like crap and attending to mean, diseased cats and dogs was not my thing...the pay sucked too!
|
My Worst Job was...
working at this market research firm where I had to call people to conduct surveys. It was so boring and required no effort what so ever. We had to work long hours for very little pay. For those of you who have done telemarketing, I feel you! Although I wasn't selling anything, people treated us as if we were! And although there were a few respondents I spoke with who were nice, a lot of them were arrogant and borderline evil! But the worst aspect of the job was that anyone could get hired there. Therefore, the workplace was EXTREMELY ghetto! For example, people were fighting at the job and pregnant women were smoking like it was going out of style. I did managed to stay there for about six months.
|
job? job? what stinkin'' job??
My worst job was my first job. I took over a early morning newspaper route when I was a jr in high school. I had to get up at dark-o-clock  to pick up the papers, then fold them and deliver them to roughly 30 houses. I had to be at school by 830 am and I was late to class a couple of times so I couldn't risk a bad grade for cash. (I didn't need to work at the time) I was already running low on energy because I was on the track team, assistant coaching a gymnastics team, a cheerleader, school band [flute] and girl scouts. I quit after 2 weeks and a PITIFUL paycheck.
|
Okay my first job was at Chuck E Cheese...not only did i have to dress up as Chucky in 80 degree wheather i had to sing and dance to spoiled brats.......i had to get on my hands and knees with a brillo pad and clean all the gray spots because my manager though we were not cleaning well with the mop.....if you think that is all.....for 3 months i was only making $4.25 an hour they call it training pay a.k.a "slave labor". i had fun with my friends but i still have back pain this day from carrying buckets of ice to manually fill the salad bar....... " Bad Chucky,Bad Chucky" instead of "where a kid can be a kid" " where a kid can scrub toliets " ::somebody hug me::

Awwwee, I feel your pain...You get mad hugs for that job!!!
:D :D :D |
I also feel your pain! There's nothing like having to dress up in a hot a$$ animal suit to make a buck!

THE WORST EVER!!
Everybody?? The worst job ever... has to be... a KIRBY VACUUM SALESPERSON! It was truly the worst experience I have ever had! Customers were under the impression that I was coming in to shampoo their carpets, not sell them an overpriced (yet useful and very durable ;) ) piece of equipment.
Needless to say, I never made a sale. That job definitely didn't last long. SigmaRhoyalty2K1 P.S.- I heard Oprah tell her audience that she used to sell them too! Nice to know I'm not the only one. |
SigmaRhoyalty2K1,
That definitely has to be the worst job! Ha! Ha! Serioussigma22:p |
My worst job--telemarketing.
The pay was good, but like another person said, those places are so Ghettofabulous. Needless to say, I stayed for about a week. |
Got a headache just thinkin bout it!
My worst job was working at the Kroger across the street from my apartment complex during my senior year of college. The best part was the convenience. Just a 2 min drive home...at 1 am. But there was no discount although as a cashier, you're on your feet all day long. I even injured my chest from all the reaching, pulling, and scannig items. You get a break, but dang.
The job at Macy's in junior's department during Christmas comes in a close second. **still recovering from the memory** |
Telemarketing Yuk!
Like sistah determined1 and SisterSoror PrettyPetite....my worst job, by far, was telemarketing.
We weren't even selling anything, we simply called random folks to conduct opinion surveys that Newspapers, T.V. etc, use for their polls. Still...I got hung up on, cussed out, threatened, etc... They would only let you work in 4 hour shifts the job was so stressful and depressing. BUT, I am glad to have had the experience. It built character, particularly patience, and sympathy for folks who now call my house telemarketing stuff. Sisterly, Aurora6 "Find a job you Love and you'll NEVER work a day in your life" |
My worst job was telemarketing. I had to sell lightbulbs. Who in the world buys lightbulbs over the phone? I lasted one week and didn't make one sell. I couldn't get over the fact that it was so stupid to sell lightbulbs over the phone which made me a bad salesperson.
|
*lol* @ selling lightbulbs over the phone!
Ok, my worst job and first job was during high school when I was a waitress for the big TWO WEEKS! OMGoodnees I hated that job to all eternity. People were straight EL CHEAPO when it came to tipping. Bump that mess you hear about black folks being bad tippers because for the two weeks that I was there, all of my customers were white and would leave me nothing or maybe a quarter. BOOO YOU BAD TIPPING LOSERS!!! And to top it off, I only got paid $2.00 an hour (this was in 1993). Yeah, I straight left that job and went to work at JC Penny's :D |
supermarket cashier
|
worst job ever
dishwasher and busboy. well, it was at a college, and i was in HS, so i guess it was cool becuase i got to talk to those older females .
|
my town's newspaper
i was the person who put all those inserts into the newspapers by hand. the pay and anger was not worth it. i used to black out on people when i would see them throw the inserts away without even reading them. i'm thinking, i stood on a cement floor for 8+ hrs doing that and you're gonna throw them away without even reading them. i now sympathize with postal workers. |
OK I think Shanums, just won the worst job ever award.
I mean dang, they could have at least brought you a chair, a stool or something to sit on while working! Yikes! |
Well, I was just out of school and needed somthing to pay the bills while I looked for a "real job". So I ended up working in a FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZING Warehouse, doing quasi-retail work.
While working there, I was bitten by a dog [which didn't have rabies thankfully] whose owner was never found. I went to the hospital and came back to work the same day! Less than a month later, I tripped over the mess of boxes, and landed on the concrete and broke my arm. I came back to work a few days later, painkillers and all, trying to do everything one handed. Looking back, it did motivate me to find a better job! :D |
Telemarketing
I, too, was a telemarketer during college. I worked for one week at a photographer's studio trying to get people to come in and have their picture taken. The team leader put all of our names on the chalk board and kept score of who was making the most sales. My name was at the bottom all week. I have absolutly no sales ability. So, I quit.
And to HoneyKiss1974, I remember getting phone calls for lightbulbs. I think my mom bought them once or twice. ;) |
1.9.2.2.
|
I worked in a doctors office. That was the worst job I have ever had. Then again it may have been the people more so than the job itself.....
|
I know how you feel about it being the people you work with. My first job out of college was working as a asst. manager @ Hardees Restaurant. I had never worked in fast food before but I really needed the money which was surprisingly great. Well, my manager had a problem with me and even stated that she did not like me because she felt I looked down my nose at her and the other staff. Everyone really hated me when we were talking and they found out that I had experienced "real" college life(living in the dorms, clubbing from Thursday to Sunday, etc..)(They were all either high school drop-outs or teen parents) I had no problems with their situations and really liked some of them. Well, one day I actually got "cussed out" by not one employee but two, and the manager just laughed and said I probably deserved it, being that I was an"uppity balck girl"(she was black her $amn self!!!) I quit right on the spot!!!!!!!
|
Can I play? :)
The worst job I've ever had was some consulting work I did a couple of years ago. My client was the president of a small company that was mostly his family (his wife was the receptionist, his father was the marketing director, etc). This guy would sneak up on his employees and consultants in an attempt to catch them surfing the web or doing personal things on company time. He yelled at me one day because he thought I'd gotten in at 9:05am, left at 5pm, and billed him for a full day the day before. He had his knickers in a twist over FIVE MINUTES. He himself spends longer than that in the bathroom. He yelled at me because I stepped out to make a quick call on my cell phone. I was outside for five minutes (and had planned to stick around for a bit so he'd get his full eight hours  ). He yelled at me for half an hour. I didn't bill him for the five minutes, but you can bet I billed him for that half hour! He NEVER paid on time. He paid one of my invoices sixty days late. I came close to threatening to take him to court. His wife was pregnant. She gave birth in the morning. He was back in the office that afternoon. EVERY ONE of his employees who were not members of his family, was looking for a new job. I snapped when he told me that if I wanted him to give me a good recommendation, I had to work for him for free one day per month. I just turned around, walked right out of his office, drove home, and sent him my resignation and final invoice via email. (Naturally, that final invoice was paid late.) And my 1099 from that work? Postmarked April 16. He was trying to make it so that I couldn't file my taxes on time. Little did he know that you can file your taxes even without all your W-2s, 1099s, etc, and if an employer deliberately withholds these documents, the IRS fines them. :p Sorry that was so long, but the vent felt good! :) For those of you who have been telemarketers, I feel your pain. I've called people asking for charitable contributions, and ouch! This is why I always try to tell the telemarketer politely that I'm not interested, I'm on the do-not-call list, and please don't call this number again. |
My worst job was when I worked at Charleys Steakery.I worked two days and was fired! I am not cut out for fast food!!!!
|
My worst job was like telemarketing answering the complaints of claimants about their missing check in the mail!
|
My WORST job believe it or not was at a local area Baptist church.
I should have known something was fishy when the Church split because the pastor got fired two weeks after I started working there. I was their Church Secretary for the summer and I am here to tell ya "Little Old Church Ladies" are not to be played with! They can be some evil little son of a guns. These chicks took gossiping and back biting to a whole nother level. It is amazing what folks will do and or say in front of you when they know you are not a member of their Church.  Just scandalous I tell ya!:o |
My worst job was my 1st job. I worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken. I was packing cole slaw at 7:30am! The smell was so unbearable and not to mention the greasy floors and that itchy outfit! I quit after 1 week!
|
This little restaurant downtown that I worked at in 1990. I was a waitress and made $2.25/ hr. I was undertrained, the "wealthy/ affluent" (one of which I remember well - was a very public Charlotte political figure) rarely tipped, or if they did - it was very minimal. Also, our co-workers would steal our tips, AND, there were times when we (my friend and I) wouldn't get paid on time. I ended up walking out and basically not going back in. I think we went in for our last paycheck and was told by our grouchy manager that we'd get paid in 2 weeks - he was behind in payroll. We went back and it was CLOSED! He filed bankruptcy. Mind you - we were college students, so we were really looking for & really needed our $$.

have a three way tie....
I worked at Popeyes chicken for a day when I was 15. Supervisors and customers were yelling and cussing. I was extremely shy and sensitive and I know I would not last there. And it didnt help that I couldnt tell the difference between the breast and short thigh. They both were abnormally large pieces of meat.
Worked in a factory for day labor. The machine I worked on continually shocked me (about 1 every 10 min). Not a walk across carpet and touch a doorknob shock but a plug in an appliance with wet hands shock. I called the supervisor and said hey something is wrong with this machine. He worked the machine and said in a patronizing tone theres nothing wrong with this machine, see. As he worked the machine, I could tell he was feeling the shocks because the muscles in his face tightened and his eye bulged slightly. Unfortunately, he found someone else to work the machine. I was in the military for 4 years to pay off student loans. Enough said. Thank God for second chances:cool: Hijack***** I never had this job but I am certain that it sucks. I was driving down the street one summer and passed Fazzoli's. There was a guy dressed up as a giant tomato. I live in Florida and it was over 100 degrees. end hijack  |
I would have to say Dairy Queen. I worked there when I was 17.
You would be amazed at how upset people get over some friking Ice Cream. I had a lady seriously get out of her car and demand to see my manager because the whip cream on her sundae wasn't 'Creamy Enough'. Sometimes, I'm a bit 'flip' or as I like to say quick witted...lol So I told her "Maam, whip cream is only about 1.50 at any fine retailer, since our version doesn't quite suit your fancy." She was TOO heated. I submitted my resignation after a week of employment....lol |
I'm still mad about it.......
I posted my worst job ever on the Ave; I'm on page 3 of the thread. Lemme know what you think.....
|
Assembly Line
I worked in a plant called SCI. They put computers together. I worked with a bunch of Mexicans in which only the lead spoke English. My duty was to place the stirafoam*sp* pieces on the ends of the computer tower. Mind you my co-workers do not speak English. Well, the computers were coming down a little too fast for me. I told them to slow it down and they couldn't comprehend. Therefore, I had computers piled up on my end. That next day, I quit after two hours. Didn't even make it two full days. All for $6.25/hr.

Teena, I am so mad at you for these 2 stories. I laughed so hard that my supervisor stuck her head in to see what was so funny. She then reminded me of my deadline for today. :o |
