How do you type?
I type with both hands, without looking....how you are supposed to. :) I type around 65-70 wpm. :D
Any cheaters out there? J/K |
I type with 2 fingers and can type very fast-people are amazed, but I cannot look at something and type at the same time. In HS I was the second fastest typer in typing class but I use both hands at that time, the fastest was a flute player-she had an advantage with her fast agile fingers(I was a drummer).

I was a flute player, back in the day. :)
About 2 years ago, I used to type using both pointer fingers and I had to look at the keyboard about 70% of the time. I was one of the fastest in my high school computer class. In that day, I could type about 90 wpm. Hell, I WAS the fastes! But now I type correctly and am at 65-70 wpm. A little sad, but at least I am typing correctly. Haha. |
I type with both hands on the correct keys...I type 70+ words a minute.
|
i don't know if i necessarily put my hands on teh right keys, but its 2 hands..80+ words per minute..no need to look at the keyboard..
|
Type pretty slowly actually. When I moved to France, I discovered the keyboard is different! All the letters are in different places and you need the shift key to type a number. Now that I am used to the French keyboard, I have to relearn the American keyboard when I move back to the U.S. next week.

Took typing in 9th grade and still use both hands on correct keys. I have absolutely no idea how fast I type since it's not an issue for me.
As an aside, my best friend in high school graduated with a 3.965 GPA. His only B in high school was in 9th grade typing class. |
Typing Test
I checked that out, my best was 89. Mostly in the high 70's though. I tried another one and scored a 99 my first try... I like the second test better! Another Typing Test |
When I was 10, my dad got me this computer program called "Mavis Beacon teaches you to type". I'd have to sit in front of the computer for an hour for six months straight and learn to type. I hated it at the time but now I can type 80+ words per minute without looking at the keyboard. Beats the hunt-and-peck method! :)

I type around 70-75 WPM. I haven't taken a keyboarding class before. I used to hunt and peck but "forced" myself to learn the correct way.
I cleaned my keyboard today. I popped off all the keys to get down there. All that dust, etc was so gross! |
Ah Mavis Beacon - brings back memories. I type the Siobhan way - it gets the job done - it's speedy and accurate for the most part - and most of the time I don't have to look at the keyboard - all those years of typing history papers...
|
I used to be as slow as anything typing...e-mail and Instant Messenger fixed that in a hurry! I'm nowhere as near as fast as most of you all...but I'm thrilled with my 50wpm. :)
|
Applied at a temp agency last week and scored 86wpm. Started taking typing in 6th grade. IRC and HTML helped my speed and proficiency to improve though. I use all the regular home keys.

my scores
I tried the two tests that ktsnake linked to. For the first I scored an average of 45wpm; and the second link I scored an average of 66wpm. I liked the second test better - you type sentences that actually make sense. The first test I typed junk like "The new funny kittens are yellow. Old cars fit orange jackets." What's that about?!?! No wonder my scores were lower - that stuff doesn't make sense! :P
Anyway, I type in the "navane style." It's sort of a modified hunt and peck method. I primarily use the index and middle fingers on both hands with the ring finger used occasionally to hit outside keys like shift. For when I need to type something that's printed, I memorize lengths of sentences in one glance and then look at the keyboard while I type the entire segment. When I'm just tying from my head, I don't look at the keyboard as much. My "navane style" is extremely fast for a hunt and peck method. I'm much faster than those silly tests say. I probably type about 80wpm when I don't have to read off of something. When I worked as a computer consultant, I had co-workers exclaiming, "Man!! You type fast!!!" :) I never really learned to type "correctly" as you all put it. I've been using computers since I was 6 years old - I wouldn't expect a little girl to know how to touch type! :) .....Kelly :) |
