Chapman University
Well, girls, I couldn't help myself and I spilled the beans! :D
We have been offered a chance to colonize at Chapman University, and Alpha Gamma Delta accepted! This is a wonderful opportunity for all our Southern California alumnae, who wanted this so much and worked as a *team* to make this happen. Many thanks to our Extension Team from IC and IHQ. They were absolutely phenomenal when the field was so full of outstanding sororities. I am SO PROUD to be an Alpha Gam! :D :D :D |
That's great!! It'll be wonderful to have a chapter in So Cal - thanks for sharing the news! :)
|
hey we're finally working our way out to SoCal. i'm really excited 'bout getting another chapter and even kewler is the fact that chapman will have a syracuse triad now.

MARIA....FINALLY, THE BEANS HAVE BEEN SPILLED!
You know how hard it was to not say anything to my GC sisters? Me, Maria, and MaiLy have been keeping up an intense PM discussion on Chapman!!! You can bet $$$ that I'll be at that Installation!!! |
WOW! That's great news!
What other NPC groups are on this campus? |
alpha phi, gamma phi beta, delta gamma, and phi sigma sigma i think.

Chapman U Greeks
The NPC groups on campus are:
Alpha Phi Delta Gamma Gamma Phi Beta Phi Sigma Sigma If anyone's curious, the fraternities represented are: Alpha Delta Phi Delta Tau Delta |
I'm so relieved that I finally got to say something! I thought I was going to spontaneously combust from keeping the big secret. :p
I was telling Sandy that if any of you ever have the opportunity to attend an extension presentation, you should jump at the chance. It was a wonderful experience, and it made me remember all over again why I pledged Alpha Gam. I'm thankful that Chapman saw what was in our hearts, and decided to open their arms to us. |
Woo hoo! Chapman here we come!
|
Congratulations to the soon to be AGD chapter at Chapman U! :)
Now if only IHQ could expand to the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Tech., SUNY Geneseo or SUNY Brockport :D |
Did you know we have the Alpha Alpha chapter at SUNY-Buffalo?
|
What great news! Maria, I can't believe you kept it a secret! I wouldn't have been able to contain myself at all!

It was amazing to be there and watch the extension team at work. Speaking as a Southern California resident, we are all thrilled to have a collegiate chapter forming so close. As an Alpha Gam, I am so glad to say that we are colonizing at such a wonderful university. We should all be proud!!! Loyally, Wendi |

But, lucky for me, she was the level-head that just kept reminding me that patience is always rewarded. :D |
This is wonderful news!!! (Canada) Jen and I were just talking about how upsetting the closings have been, so it's wonderful to see IHQ extending our circle of sisterhood! :)
|
That's wonderful!!!! I was going to mention at our Alumnae Meeting tonight but didn't think I should in case the "formal" announcement wasn't made yet.
You'll have to wait for what I know! ;) :D :D No...IT'S NOT THAT, lol! Loyally, Lynn |
Oh my god, Lynn, are you pregnant?!?!
Just kidding...ROFLMBO! Figured one good turn deserves another! ;) Seriously, what do you know? PM me! |
I wanna know too! It's not fair for you all to be keeping the rest us in suspense :p :)
|
First of all I am SOOO glad to hear we are colonizing. Esp. after the Alpha Chapter news:(
Second, Why is our poss. expansions a secret? I also wondered how one could get a copy of the publication to NPC that lists the schools up for expansion? Do we have any other poss. expansion sites? If we can tell? :D |
*....waiting in suspense for Lynn's big announcement...*
Are you SURE you're not pregnant? |
Pregnant? Who's pregnant?
|
NOT ME!!!
Sorry for the delay in telling y'all the news but I haven't gotten an OK from the sister herself...so probably not until next week at least.
As far as I know, she's never checked out GC:( but with the news, you never know! :D |
I dont understand still why we as members cant know the doings of IHQ. Other groups are told of possible expansions and from what I see it helps create excitement. I feel I should be able to know where we may be expanding and where we are having problems.
Just my two cents though. I am just oh so happy we are expanding!!!:D |
Wendy, I believe that the local alumnae are informed when Alpha Gam makes an extension presentation, especially because we all know that alumnae support is so important to the success of a fledgling chapter. Our local alumnae were very aware of the Chapman presentation, and the wonderful turnout we had for it, IMO, may have been a big reason why we were extended the invitation.
However, when you start telling everyone what you're doing, things have a way of getting out of hand. We can't start counting our chickens before they hatch, because a situation can change at a moment's notice. I think that IHQ is erring on the side of caution--which I think is the smart thing to do. I wouldn't want something to fall through at the last minute and then end up with egg on our face. ;) |
I fully agree with the prior post. I am a charter member of my chapter and we had three NPC groups do their extension presentations before we picked Alpha Gamma Delta!
The opportunity to colonize on a campus isn't official until after we do our extension presentation and the local sorority choses us (probably over a couple other groups). That's why the Fraternity doesn't say anything to the entire Fraternity membership until after the local sorority makes their final selection. I know I've been asked about my take on local alumnae support when a local sorority on a campus near me sent an inquiry in for Alpha Gamma Delta to do an extension program for them. Sadly, there was minimal alumnae support for the other Alpha Gam chapters in the area so going onto another campus was totally out of the question. But when there is enough support, like at another campus I know of, the local alumnae were very involved with the extension process as well as the colonization process (after all, advisors will be needed)! :) |

Now that we're going to colonize at Chapman I'm sure there will be something in the Quarterly to let everyone know!

IHQ and IC do not keep things quiet for no reason at all... One example is that just because we are asked to make an extension presentation and it goes well - does not mean we will colonize there. We have to take into consideration the campus and if it fits what Alpha Gamma Delta stands for. If it does than IC votes on it and then we accept the invitation. By keeping things on the quiet side than it does not get out of control. I cannot say it enough - Sometimes you just have to trust the judgements of International Council (IC) and International Headquarters (IHQ). The decisions are made in the best interest of ALL her members. :) |
Just a thought to throw in the loop... it appears the other groups who presented at Chapman didn't mention anything about this on GC. I think only one other group was mentioned (of 3 or 4?), but I did a search on here, and none of the other groups mentioned anything about it until it was over and a decision had been made...
I think it's a good idea to keep things somewhat quiet - what's the point in publicizing that we weren't chosen at certain universities? And, to echo what DeltaBetaAGD said, just because we're presenting doesn't mean there will be a colony! I wouldn't want to get my hopes up (and the hopes of many others) just to find out that it's not happening for one reason or another. That's why we elect our International Council to make these decisions in the best interest of the Fraternity. Am I babbling yet? ;) Also, I've never really seen publicity about colonizations in the Q or otherwise... it's usually just the installation that gets publicity - unless you're local to the colony, and then you're sent the info to help out and recruit alumnae initiates. |
