greeks in the family
Please forgive me if there is a thread on this already, but I couldn't find anything that I was looking for in the gazillion threads that came up when I searched under "family."
My little brother, who will enter the UM-Rolla this fall, just signed a bid card for Kappa Alpha Order. He and I are the first greeks in our families, alongside cousins who are a Sigma Pi at UKy and a Theta Xi at Georgia Tech. It's just kinda neat! |
There's a thread that asks where everyone is a legacy at. Everyone listed all the greeks in their family.
Mine: (keeps on growing as I find out more people who were greek) Grandpa: AEPi Uncle: AEPi Uncle: Kappa Alpha Aunt: AEPhi Aunt: DPhiE Cousin: Kappa Delta I think there's more but I haven't researched enough. :) |
You can find more threads under "legacy"
Here's couple of them, http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showth...ghlight=legacy http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showth...ghlight=legacy Good luck ;) |
Family Greeks
Me: Pi Beta Phi
Dad: Delta Upsilon |
hey my sister and i are the first greeks in my family too...she is a kappa alpha theta, and i'm a phi kappa psi.
|
Me: Sigma Nu
Youngest Brother: ATO Father: Phi Kappa Sigma Mother: Gamma Phi Beta Maternal Grandfather: Sigma Epsilon (I'm not 100% sure on that) Paternal (step)grandfather: Beta Theta Pi Cousin: Fiji |
I am the first person in my family to join a GLO. No one else in my family has gone to a school with a greek system... so I got to be the pioneer. Well, my hypothetical future daughter gets to be an AEPhi legacy... :)
|
I'm the only Greek in my immediate family as far as extended family both of my mom's sisters were greek (Tri Sigma and ADPI) My dad's cousin was an ADPI and my uncle was a Kappa Sig. I found that out today.
|
I have a Cousin that is a member of a fraternity at Valdosta State but I am not sure which one , I think it was Delta Chi?? I am a member of Alpha gamma Delta but I dont think there is anyone else to my knowledge.
My sister will be an Alpha Gam legacy though!!!! YEAH!! |
My aunt was an AZD at Nebraska and the only Greek connection I currently have.
I being the oldest of the grandkids have set a precedent. My twin cousins who are now in fourth grade now want to follow their legacy in AZD at Nebraska after coming to my initiation banquet and then touring their mother's old house. My little brother will also probably rush now too (I'm gonna make him rush no matter where he goes ;)) and if he ends up following me to Nebraska, my Mom is going to make him be a Beta! |
I am also the first Greek in my family. I think that it's pretty cool. My great Grandfather belonged to a secret society but that's the extent.
|
Quote:
Brother in law: Lambda Chi (happend after I rushed tho) Sister: Chi Omega Dad: Sigma Chi Uncle (dads brother): Alpha Tau Omega Mom: Alpha Delta Pi Uncle (moms brother) Alpha Tau Omega Grandmother: Chi Omega Grandfather: Kappa Alpha Order my Chi O' grandmother was so pissed that I didnt rush a legacy org (KA, ATO, or EX) that she wouldnt talk to me for 3 weks after I went LCA. She thought it was disrespectful. lol. She got over it tho |
first girl who's gone greek in the family.. though my older brother is now considering rushing a fraternity on campus.. he saw how great it was for me and now hes interested.. its like they say, once you go greek you'll never go back.. :)
|
I am the only Greek in my family. My little sister rushed (at the time there was only one national on her campus alongside two locals, so it was informal rush) a national sorority and was not given a bid. Apparently a couple of nationals colonized her senior year and if I had known I would have made her rush ;) but I didn't find out until later.
None of my aunts, uncles, cousins, anybody was Greek. I'm not likely to have kids, either, so no legacies. :( |
I am a direct legacy for KKG!! My sister was a charter member of her chapter at Georgia Southern and 10 years later when I went through recruitment--I pledged Kappa! It has been an honor to share the bonds of Kappa with my real sister!
|
My immediate family are all from the UBC Greek system...
Me: DPhiE Brother: Sigma Chi Cousin: Beta Theta Pi Cousin's wife: Kappa Kappa Gamma I also have family in the states who are in fratenities and sororities but I'm not sure which orgs they belong to. |
My grandfather is in a local.
My mom is a Sigma Kappa (but put Phi Mu as number 2 on her bid card!) I'm a Phi Mu! My little brother is going to UVM in the fall but there are no fraternities there. |
My cousin went DPhiE in Georgia and I went Beta Sigma Phi.
|
I was the first to go Greek in the family, but I started a trend! ;)
Cousin: SAE Cousin: KKG We're the only greeks in the fam, but through Mr. XOprincess' fam, we have: Mr. XO_Princess: Sigma Nu Mr. XO_Princesses mom: Alpha Xi Delta Mr. XO_Princesses brother: Pike Mr. XO_Princesses sis in law: ADPi |
I am and will be the one and only Greek in my family!
My younger sibling was not a Greek, and his son never went Greek! It is so sad that I am the only one! But my whole Chapter is my family and sometimes I treat them as my Sons, even though they are my Brothers! Great event took place, we initiated Brother # 599 the Father of # 507 as our advisor! Guess that is A Legacy in Reverse!:D He is a great asset to My Chapter!:) |
Grandmother: AXO
GreatGrandmother: AXO Grandfather: Sigma Chi Aunt: was a little sister at Delta Chi thas it. |
First in family
I was the first in my immediate family to join a sorority. BUT my mom was initiated into Alpha Gamma Delta in 1999 as an Alumna Initiate! It is so great to share Alpha Gamma Delta with her. :D
|
I am first generation...will work on the rest of the fam!
|
In my family it's:
My dad: Alpha Epsilon Pi Uncle: AEPi Aunt: Alpha Chi Omega Me: Alpha Gamma Delta Cousin: Phi Mu Cousin: Kappa Alpha Theta Cousin: Triangle It was actually my dad who encouraged me to go through rush not any of my female family members. |
me : chi omega
dad : sigma alpha mu uncle : alpha epsilon pi cousin: sigma phi epsilon |
Me: Delta Zeta
Granmother: Chi Omega Grandfather: Kappa Sigma Aunt: Delta Delta Delta Aunt: Kappa Alpha Theta (pretty sure, or else she was also DDD) Fiance: Delta Upsilon Fiance's step-mom: Kappa Alpha Theta Question: Since my fiance's stepmom is a Theta, would that make my future daughters Theta legacies and DZ legacies? I am not sure how the step thing works... |
im not here to nit pick but....
ok i've been reading some of these post and some (not all) , but some have indicated that their family members "was" or "were" part of a sorority or fraternity. greek life is forever, even after you become alum. so try to put it like " they BECAME a member of suchandsuch fraternity/sorority. as for me i am the only one in my immediate family who is greek.(sigma kappa). my cousin from tenn. became a member of ZTA. which was one of the reasons i went greek too.
|
dzsaigirl - it depends on Theta's legacy policy. Some GLO's consider step-relations, half-sister relations, and adoptive relations on the same level as blood relations; some don't.
SigKapQueen - I agree that GLO membership is for life, however, the past tense is appropriate if the person in question is deceased. |
Well, in my case, I put WAS for a family member who has indicated that they do not want to be a part of that organization anymore for whatever reason...
|
My husband and I are the only greeks in both sides of our family.
me: Alpha Gamma Delta husband: Sigma Phi Epsilon |
The are no Greeks in my family. God willing, I'll be the first.
|
Me: Chi Omega
My brother: Lambda Chi :D |
greek family
Dad: Lamda Chi
Mom local - Kappa Rho -later colonized into Phi Mu Me - Phi Mu First Cousin - Phi Mu |
I am the first greek in my family!
It was REALLY funny trying to explain the greek alphabet and the usual new member stuff to my mom. At first I swear she looked like she might have thought it was cult....BUT now she LOVES it!!! I tried to make her as aware and give her as many opprotunities to come around, help out with philanthropy, and she loves being included in little things like that. The mother daughter days we have are always something she looks forward to.. My two little sisters (12 and 9yrs old) both are so into the whole greek thing they run around my house singing Phi Mu songs... LOL whenever I come to visit they go into singing mode...makes me laugh every time! I have created 2 future greeks! LOL |
Considering I'm the only one in my immediate family who is gonna finish college, I'm the only Greek. Actually, not much of my extensive family went to college.
me= Phi Mu 4 Life :D cousin= Sigma Delta Tau cousin's bf/soon to be fiance= Sigma Alpha Mu The rest of my cousins who are my age don't want to be a part of the Greek scene. I say they're missing out! |
I am the second greek in my family:
Uncle: Sigma Nu Me: LXA Wife: Mu Delta Alpha |
First Greek in my immediate family, but I do have a cousin at IU that is in a fraternity, but I cannot remember which one! My grandma was in a local in High school. (Sub dub is what she calls it but I know it had Greek letters because I have seen her pin.)
My younger cousins will be in college too, so I feel that I can convince them all to Go Greek! They have been watching me in things and seem to follow my lead! I just hope they decide to do it because they will really enjoy it alot! And hopefully my little brother will decide to go Greek too! |
Greeks in the Family
The Male side:
Brother, Father, Both Grandfathers, one Great Uncle, two Greatgrandfathers, two Greatgranduncles, and a herd of cousins over the last couple of generations - DEKE One Uncle - ATO Father's side other cousins - three SAEs and a couple of members of locals which I think are now either Nationals or have gone dormant. The Female side: Mother and one Aunt - DZ Sister, One Grandmother, One Greatgrandmother - Pi Phi One Greatgrandmother and Three Greataunts - Theta Mother's side cousins - a mob of DZs and Chi Os Father's side cousins - a mob of Pi Phis, a bunch of Thetas, and two kappas. I am pretty sure I missed a couple going way back, but I'll check with my Grandmother, who is our 'family historian', to make sure. |
I am the first member of my family on either side to even go to college. I do have a 2nd cousin that is going to nursing school this fall, but I'm still the first! My mom and dad are still stuck with the greek stereotypes of the 60's and 70's, and are leary about me joining a sorority. I'm sure they'll be more than happy I did it when it's all said and done. :)
|
First greek in my family too!:) But not the only one now!:)
Me: Iota Beta Chi (local) My brother: Zeta Psi My husband: well, he never got initated in any...but he pledged Zeta Psi, Kappa Sigma (which was only a colony and folded), and Phi Kappa Pi My brother-in-law: also pledged Kappa Sigma (but as I said, they folded) |
