Greek Chat Gathering
 

Hi!

Ok...we sorta touched on this earlier, but I'm gonna bring it up again.

Who would be up for a GREEK CHAT get together in Southern California?

I suggest a Friday or Saturday night in June at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, CA. The Disney Resort is located in reasonably "equal" distances from Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego.

I'm thinkin' the the House of Blues or the Rainforest Cafe would be good places to meet. There is also ESPN Zone for the menfolk and shops like Sephora for the ladies. (Though, I'd probably head for ESPN Zone. ;) )

What do you all SoCal GCers think?

Great idea!!! I actually work in Disneyland (well, not *for* Disney this time around - turns out they're not the most hospitable employer when it comes to accomodating college students' schedules - anyways.... don't wanna rant about that right now) for an independent company. Downtown Disney would be cool... and I wouldn't be unopposed to taking a couple of people into either park (I have some unused free passes). Keep us posted on an actual date when available.

I am all over this like white on rice. KappaStarboy (aka SigEpRaider) and I frequent Disneyland and we both have annual passes. We would love to join you.

Rainforest Cafe sounds good to me, I think their food is better than HOB...perhaps there could be dancing afterwards?? But Sephora would be good too as long as I leave my Visa card at home.

Well although I'm not from SO cal. I believe I will be down staying with my aunt in Anaheim the weekend of the 14 and I'd like to be there if all you lovely GC'ers are going to be meeting at Disneyland. I think this is SUCH a cool idea... if this doesnt' work maybe we could try again in fall when everything isn't so crazy with people moving out and finals and everything. :D

I *think* I'm ok for Saturday, June 15th. How does that sound?

HI EVERYBODY! I love the idea! Any date is fine with me as long as I know 1 week in advance so I can take the time off of work! I'm currently in No. Cal, but born and raised in So Cal, so I'm there!

So let's have it...

Saturday evening, June 15. Meet at, oh, let's say 8 p.m. outside the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney. Dinner will be followed by fun (shopping? Dancing? going into the parks??)

What a super idea, Kelly! June 15th is looking pretty good. Hey, maybe we can carpool if you're coming from SD?

Now THIS one sounds like a super idea! Wish I could be there, but unfortunately, California is 3000 miles away! Have a super time though, and take pictures :)

As my better half has already stated "I'm all over that like white on rice". Yes, I am the fabled "KappaStarBoy". Kappa Star Girl will be working that afternoon, but we have season passes, so if anyone wants to go into the park for a while before the official "Get Together" lemme know.

I'm in the STL, Tom, but if y'all talk about Worlds of Fun (I LOVE CAMP SNOOPY!! It's my dream to visit every one in the world!:) ) or something like that, if I'm not in Cali or Mich, I'd love to meet some of y'all!

I know the Gamma Chi thing is fractious, but I still like the idea of meeting the people I've chatted with for two years! Two years? :eek: I think I might need a life... ;)

:D :D I was just reading the boards and saw the posting of a GC get together and saw Disneyland. I am a seasonal pass holder to both of the parks and someday i want my furture residence to be the magic kingdom( Disney family apt over the fire station or the castle). You guys are so cute...hope that works out well. It's so nice to know that Greeks who don't even know each other can do stuff like this...see, brotherhood and sisterhood extend past our own houses, past our own campuses, to fellow Greeks all over the place! Have fun!

Ok, it looks like several people actually want to go into Disneyland. What do you say we meet on the castle drawbridge at like 5pm or so? That way we can run around the park a little bit before the 8pm get-together at the Rainforest Cafe.

I'll wear my KDS letters too so that people can spot me easier.

Why don't we all wear our letters? I think it would definately make a statement to see members of all different Greek organizations hanging out together. ...just a thought... I'll be there for sure at the drawbridge. :D

Wassup y'all!

For those still planning on going to Disneyland on the 15th, I'm going to be working in the park that night. I'll be in one of the shops in the castle until they close off the castle for the fireworks (fireworks will be at 9:30; bridge, etc., will close at ~8:30). I'll have to close my shop around then and won't be able to leave until around 8:45pm (still in my "costume" of course). I'll try to get to the Rainforest Cafe (that's still where we're meeting right?) after I'm off work, but in the meantime, feel free to stop by and visit me if you want -- just look for stuff about family histories!

I'm not sure how it went! I am hoping that there are people at Rainforest Cafe right now.

I was at Disneyland earlier today to go shopping for birthday presents and to see the Blast! show at California Adventure. I was at the drawbridge at 5pm....and nobody else was. Near 6pm I gave up. :(

I *did* go into the heraldry shop to say hello to SAEactive who had to work. :) (SAE, I'm sorry I didn't say something before I left, I didn't want to interrupt you while you were helping customers).

So, I was left to decide whether or not I should hobble around Disneyland by myself for another 2 hours and hope that someone shows to the cafe, or go home. Since my ankle was starting to act up, I decided to go home. I didn't want to risk really messing up my ankle like I did yesterday.

If any of you did go to the Rainforest Cafe, fill me in on what I missed! :)

Ok... first of all, I can vouch for Kelly that she actually was there! ;) We missed you at Rainforest Cafe though. The impression that most of us had, I think, was that we would all for sure meet at Rainforest Cafe at 8, but only those (few) who could would be at the drawbridge at 5 (I was there, but then I was working at the time... boo on work, oh well, at least I was getting paid...).

There were 13 of us at dinner at Rainforest Cafe, myself included (yes I counted... I'm a physics major, whaddya expect?). I think we all had a lot of fun. Phi Sig definately represented themselves well (probably half of the group). Others included (aside from SAE - yours truly) Sig Ep, KKG, and some random Kappa Delta who saw us in front of the La Brea Bakery. Dinner was fun - especially the part about us all getting to take advantage of my 20% Cast Member discount... yay me! Stories upon stories were exchanged.... definitely something we should do again sometime.

YEAAAAAHHH !!!! to my Phi Sig sisters for going out to meet other greeks... This should def. be done again I'm in SF but go to LA a lot.. and hopefully next time the gathering will correspond with one of my visits...

Thought I should just write a quick note... It was pretty cool meeting people that you see online. And just a lil addition to SAEactive's list of who was there, we also had a member of Sigma Pi come and join us.

I hope that we can do this again!!!

SAEactive, I figured people would be at the Cafe, but my ankle wasn't havin' any of it. Yesterday morning it was hurting when I woke up and I considered not going at all. But I figured I should at least give it a try.

When I came through the gates, I noticed that the guy in front of me had a huge Sigma Chi tattoo on his shoulder. I almost said something, but I could see that he was with his family. :)

Well hey! Since cutiepatootie was ill, and bereal e-mailed to say that she couldn't make it after all, we should do this one more time before I leave. I know there are a lot of San Diego GCers and frankly, they need to represent! :p

HI All,
I just wanted to say it was great to meet Carly, Jeff, and Bill at the greekchat gathering at Downtown Disney. Kelly maybe next time we'll be able to meet. My suggestion is why don't we try to do another gathering in mid-July or in early August. And maybe have more time to spread the word around.
How does Saturday July 13 sound. We can meet in front of Rainforest Cafe again at around 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. What does everyone think. Let me know so I can spread the word to my chapter and the other So. Cal Phi Sigs.
