To all the Yankee fans

Who is the best team in Baseball right now? Boston!! Just thought I would brag because the Red Sox will take it all this year and break the curse..;)

straightBOS 05-10-2002 12:20 AM

yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh baby!!!!!
Its our YEAR!!!!!!!!!

**so glad I live just up the street from Fenway**

Now, Red Sox fans are fanatical, but have you ever tried to watch a Sox/Yankees game in NYC? It's a death sentence literally.

So, yes, "Yankees ____!" :p

Peaches-n-Cream 05-10-2002 12:43 AM

Babe Ruth still haunts the Red Sox! The curse will continue! The Yankees rock! :D

Thrillhouse 05-10-2002 01:21 AM

Boston started out hot last year too. The standings don't mean much till July

DGPhoney 05-10-2002 02:21 AM

hmm as a Yankee Fan

The Yanks have gone every yr for the pastcouple of years hmm I believe and the last time Boston went was......refresh my memory someone, oh wait, does anyone remeber it's been oh so long
:D Yankee Spirit all the way :)
DGP~Honey~

lionlove 05-10-2002 05:36 AM

Yeah Boston!

The Pats won the superbowl, the Celts are looking great and the Red Sox are infirst place :D It could be the year!

KSigkid 05-10-2002 09:41 AM

....and it's the middle of May, don't forget.

I'm not going to get too concerned about the standings right now. Yankees had some crappy patches last year, they'll make up for it later in the season.

What would be truly extraordinary is if Boston didn't somehow choke it away in the second half - they avoid clutch play like the plague.
(and yes, I know i'm from CT and go to school in Boston, but I'm still a diehard Yankee fan)

Collin

The1calledTKE 05-10-2002 10:42 AM

Everyone knows that if Nomar, Pedro ect.. stays healthy Boston will dominate. The reason Boston didn't go no where last year because both of them were out alot.

Yep alot of people join the bandwagon when a team wins alot of championships.
You know I am a true Boston Fan because they haven't won one in a very long time and hasn't been to a series since the Mets.

Did you hear about the story of the Boston fans searching in a lake next to the house that the Babe used to own for the piano he pushed into it. They wanted to find it and restore it to break the curse. I thought that was interesting. Guess there are more die hard Boston fans out therre than me. lol

Damn right....I've liked the Yanks since they sucked, in the sad days of Stump Merril, Andy Hawkins and Willie Randolph. It's funny to hear someone say what a big Yankee fan they are, and then they choke when you ask them who Don Mattingly is.

I never realized the extremes of Sox fans till I came to school in Boston. Those Massholes really get pumped up for the Sox games, which is kinda cool until October, when they see their team choke again.

The1calledTKE 05-10-2002 11:43 PM

Boston never chokes they always end up with hurt players. Yes Collin I know your a true Yankees fan if you admit it and your from Boston. Do you dare walk down the street wearing a Yankees cap?

hahahaha - me and collin, well let's talk about the odd couple . . .

I love the sox (and the A's from when I was a kid) . . . ksigkid loves the yankees. so one day we head to the house, he rolls out from the dorms in an old-school yankees jersey - all I can say is "God, don't let that have a #2 on the back . . . "

Of course it does.

So the first thing that happens is a masshole driving by (at around 90 mph) rocks out with "GO BACK TO NEW YORK YOU F$$$ING F$$$$$$ . . . "

Hysterical.

And no - he doesn't rock the cap, but he rocks the jerseys sometimes - the kid just doesn't do hats. Long story.

BTW - zntke - please don't apply any more jinx than is necessary. The sox are playing well, but we got tossed tonight at Safeco (just like the Yanks a week ago) - we're playing well. Leave it at that man!

No need to taunt Cashman into trading for, let's say, Larry Walker, and put the division completely out of reach . . .

The Sox could definitely win over 90 games this year, with the talent they have (and the retardedly easy AL East schedule...) - it's just that NYY could win over 110. It'll be a great run though, especially if Pedro gets at all consistant.

And DGPhoney - the last time we "went" was 1986, and the last time we won the division was 1995, for the record - and no one can compete with the Yankees' titles, in any sport, I'll give that up for sure.

I forgot, Bill Buckner had a pulled muscle when he let that ground ball go through his legs in the world series right?;)

I used to rock the Mattingly jersey too. It was fun freshman year to get reactions out of people, especially when the Yanks and Sox were playing in the ALCS. I have about 5 Yankee jerseys at home, I may start cycling those in this summer.

Buckner was just an idiot. He has to live in hiding now because all the death threats. For the amount of money the Yanks spend on their players and the amount Boston spends on theirs I would hope the Yanks would be better. There are no jinxs KSig RC. I have faith in my boys. We will lose some games maybe even have a slump but we will prevail. Maybe Boston will get lucky and somebody like Jeter will get put on the dl for the rest of the season. Never lose faith in the Red Sox.
Oh and Nomar is so much a better shortstop than Jeter.

Die hard yank fan here. Had to suffered through the 80s and early 90s. Had to watch McDowell collapse, saw the triumpth of Jim Abbott no hitter, and wonder how the hell did Steve Balboni get up everyday with all that weight.

As for Boston, don't worry about a thing, they'll collapse faster then the ticket sales for Glitters.

TLAW 05-14-2002 07:30 AM

Wow, a Steve Balboni reference. Yankees actually had him twice, considered trading Don Mattingly to the Giants because they thought Balboni was the better first base prospect.

By the way...Yanks sweep the Twins, looks like they may be getting back on the right track..

Yup, good old stevie. How bout Mass, the Perez brothers. I grew up in Mets territory. You can literally see Shea Stadium from my high school. Growing up as a Yankee fan during the 80s and early 90s in Queens is prob. worst then growing up in Boston during the same period. Though it might be the same :)

Pay-Rod also ranks high on the pretty scale.

Thrillhouse 05-23-2002 07:51 PM

Might as well just keep this thread rolling. The white sox sure ended the red sox streak eh?;)

Anyone hear about Shawn Greens game thursday? From espn.com:

He became just the 14th player to hit four home runs in one game;

He had 19 total bases (four HRs, a double and a single), breaking Joe Adcock's record of 18;

He become just the sixth player since 1900 to score six runs in one game (Mel Ott did it twice).

The1calledTKE 05-23-2002 11:10 PM

Ex Greek,Who won the game tonight against the Yankees? Yah I thought so... lol

Thrillhouse 05-23-2002 11:35 PM

for one I'm not a yankees fan I am a white sox fan and I am pleased that we beat you twice this week in 2 games.

And secondly, basically any baseball played before july 1 means nothing. As hot as the red sox are, the yankees are only 2 games out. And the yankees are never known to collapse at all unlike the red sox.

Yeah, good job against the back end of the rotation (bad match-ups for the sox) - you really thumped Lowe on monday.

PS - I was at that game, it was nasty. Lowe was dominating, and looked good doing it. The (red) sox look to be for real this year, and I think they'll be in the race all season. The wildcard will definitely come from the AL East - the Sox and Yankees are definitely 2 of the 3 best teams in the AL (w/ the Mariners).

Sorry Ex greek - your pitching sucks, especially the guys we saw. There's very little there other than Foulke and Buehrle, although Garland threw well yesterday. He's about the classic "every year should be his breakout year" guy, though, so I don't expect much. The chi sox need to trade for a pitcher, almost all they can offer is Carlos Lee, start conning people to take his worthless ass.

I disagree with "nothing matters before july 1" - that's bullshit of the highest order. Look at the Cubs, A's, Indians, and the like - teams with HUUUUUGE expectations that have played their way into equally large holes. Don't expect any of those teams to pull an "Oakland in 2001" either - none of them have the firepower. I'll agree that it matters less than the end of the season - teams fade fast come august - but you can end your season early, for sure.

Pedro was sharp today - he's getting off right now, and grady little's actually keeping the pitch count low, so it might just last.

The scary thing is, the Yankees are keeping pace, even with injuries on the pitching staff (although personally, only Pettitte matters in my opinion) . . . and the only guy playing too far over his head is Robin Ventura.

Either way, when the Sox and Yankees play for the pennant, we'll get to argue it out again. When the Yanks dismantle the Twins in the first round of the playoffs, Ex greek can keep me updated on Magglio Ordonez's golf game.

Gotta love the delirious red sox fans. Hey ksigrc, hows team doctor Peter Gammons doing? How about team physician Peter Gammons? Hahahah, the red sox are a joke, all the more reason to root for the yankees in october because someone from the east has to do well.

White sox not win the central? White sox pitching bad? Are you trying to hit me with an obvious stick? What a moron, those statements are along the same lines as Tampa will finish last in the east this year and the yankees will make the playoffs in some way shape or form. Garland and Dan Wright are not the front end of the rotation for the socks.

Your team may or may not be a wild card team. Tell team trainer Peter Gammons I said that.

p.s. Hows the bruins doing? Any updates on their golf game? Maybe team beat reporter peter gammons can help you out with that one.

The1calledTKE 05-24-2002 02:43 PM

Ex the Central Divison sucks. Its not to hard to win that divison. Look who the White Sox are tied with? The Twins of all teams. If the White sox were in the East or West divisions they would be third place. They will never even come close to the series. What has the white sox done since the Shoeless Joe days?

Don't count the white sox out yet - if they get some guys who can throw the ball, they'll do fine. The 1-9 lineup is solid, better than the Twins.

They're looking good now - and certainly look better to hold up than the Angels, the next-nearest team not in the Central. We'll see though - Lowe needs to hold up, and he's never thrown 200 innings in a season before . . .

Low blow, dude - but a good point. The freaking B's choked, big time. The way the Leafs and 'Canes are playing, it looks like Boston should have kicked both of their asses all over the place, and win the right to get raped by the wings/avalanche winner. I hate the Avs.

Another game for Boston against the Yanks, How nice.
