Men Cry in the Dark: The Play
This past weekend, along with Soror #1Leading Lady and Beauty08, I went to see Men Cry in the Dark starring ALLEN PAYNE (G-Money and Lance and Jason), Christopher Williams, Monifah, and Rhona Bennett.
The play was TERRIFIC!! Outstanding!! All that!! 2 snaps and a circle. The play is based on the book by Michael Baisden. Read it first and then see the play. FYI: Allen Payne was topless in one scene and I almost fainted. :o :p The play's info can be found here: http://www.michaelbaisden.com/stage_play.htm Future Cities New York City, NY Houston, TX Los Angeles, CA Washington, DC. |
Re: Men Cry in the Dark: The Play
Hey CT4! :D Hope you don't mind me posting on your board! ;)
I also went to see the play Men Cry in the Dark a couple of months ago! I thought it was great. I wish it could have been longer so they could have gone more into depth with the other characters. Girl I know what you mean about Allen Payne. I was like Lawd Jesus when he took his shirt off! :o Now that is definitely someone who could make me just pass out for real!! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/pfohnmacht.gif Just want to take him in a back room and http://www.plaudersmilies.de/knuddel.gif.....let me stop! :D ;) Quote:

I don't remember Monifah dueting with Marcus but I do remember her and Christopher Williams. When Pretty Tony (Christopher Williams) proposed to Monifah, that song gave me chills. |

And it was a duet with Monifah and Chris Williams....that's the one I was talking about. When he proposed to her was the best. Almost had me in tears... http://www.plaudersmilies.de/sad/suru.gif And didn't Marcus sing a song by himself? I think that's what I was thinking about. :D He tore it up! |
I read the book. It was definitely off the hook. When it hits the area, I'll have to be sure to check out the play since you all are giving it such rave reviews. :)

The Maintenance Man
As I sit here recalling Allen Payne in his TOPLESS glory :D I need to tell you all that they are working on making The Maintenance Man into a movie.
**gotta pull that thread back to the top** |
It's BACK ON THE ROAD
The musical stage version of Michael Baisden's hit novel about four friends from the South Side of Chicago.
Men Cry in the Dark is an exhilarating, hilarious and spiritually uplifting musical drama that transcends the only known barrier left to man. This dazzling, spectacular play gives an unparalleled insight into dating, family devotion and most importantly relationships. Many do not know that beneath the rough and stoic texture of the Black man, there has always resided a sensitive and passionate side that few women have ever been privileged to experience. It is a secret region that men still regard as their last frontier-the un-chartered territory where women are forbidden to tread. Back by popular demand, Men Cry In The Dark will tour again beginning in September 2002. First stop will be Houston, Texas starting September 10 and running thru September 15. Location in Houston will be the Verizon Theatre (formerly Aerial Theatre). Additional cities that Men Cry In The Dark will appear are: Oakland, CA Washington, DC New York, NY http://www.michaelbaisden.com/home.asp |
I am so jealous because that play will probably NEVER come to Minnesota. I read that book about three years ago and fell in love. It's ALL THAT! It's time for Michael Baisden to drop another book. And we won't even get into The Maintenance Man...WHEW! I need to read those books again!

Sorry... gotta go against the flow
I saw Men Cry in the Dark with my link and her mom, and I think the play was typical and mediocre. (don't hit me... don't hit me) Don't get me wrong, I am glad I went, but the plot has been done, done, and done some more. The acting was great, and the singing was also great. But here are some of my questions...
1) Why was Germanicia (sp?) so ghetto? Do we have to keep the stereotype alive? 2) Although I enjoyed the eye candy, but why did Christopher WIlliams have to strip and lay all on the floor at the proposal. Also, will someone explain Chris. Williams's fiance? Is she in the play? Did the ring look nice? |
Re: Sorry... gotta go against the flow

There are women like Germanicia as well as the other women in the play. Baisden, as other authors, showed that there are different types of women and they all need love from a good man. Chris was just pouring out his heart and soul during his song to Tracey and I did not mind ONE bit. Chris' fiance was seen at the club, the after party, in REAL LIFE by myself and those I went to the after party with. |
HOT DIGGITY
