Alumnae positions
Do you have/had a position with an alumnae chapter? If so, what is it and what other positions have you had?
I was installed as permanent secretary of the South Ga alumnae chapter yesterday. I look forward to my position. ;) |
Okay, you know about me, but here it is anyway, lol.
Currently, I am Perm. Secretary for Carroll County Area Alumnae Chapter which helps being Operations & Property Advisor for Gamma Tau Chapter at the State Univ of Carrollton. In the early 90's, I was Secretary for the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter and Gamma Phi (Ga. Tech) House Associations. Get those change of addresses/names, etc., in to your Perm. Secretary or the IHQ site, y'all! ;) :D |
My turn!
I am the Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Junior Circle. I love my job!
You can find us at: Los Angeles Junior Circle. We are really starting to get a nice turnout at our events, my long-term goal is to shoot for an award at 2004's Convention! |
I currently serve as the Editor for the Hawaii Alumnae Chapter. There's some pressure there to follow in the footsteps our great former editor--hawaiiagd. She was on the honor roll for Outstanding Newsletter at the 2001 Convention. Thankfully, she still gives me lots of help despite her busy schedule!
|
I am currently serving as a Panhellenic Delegate (President) for our Hawaii Alumnae Chapter. When I became the Chapter Advisor for Delta Sigma two years ago, it was decided I couldn't hold an office with the alumnae chapter anymore. Bummer... but it's okay. I've got enough to do with the collegians and Panhellenic that I guess it doesn't matter.
I still serve as the webmaster, too. I have served as Hawaii Junior Circle President and Hawaii Alumnae Chapter Editor. Both were great positions! Best wishes with your new job as Permanent Secretary! Loyally, Mai Ly |
Congratulations to Nina and everyone else on their positions! :D
|
Does anyone know what awards are available to Alumnae Chapters/Clubs and Junior Circles? I've heard several people mention their chapters have won awards but I've never seen a list of awards that an alumnae group can "win"?
|
These were the awards handed out at the 2001 Convention:
Alumnae Chapter Achievement Alumnae Club Achievement Most Improved Alumnae Chapter Most Improved Alumnae Club Alumnae Chapter Outstanding Community Service Alumnae Club Outstanding Community Service Outstanding Support to a Collegiate Chapter Adopt-a-Chapter Helen Mae Clarahan Spiese Alumnae Panhellenic Award Outstanding Junior Circle Alumnae Chapter Newsletter Alumnae Club Newsletter **and each category has its own Honor Roll! |
Thanks for such a quick response! :)
|
oops, I wasn't done with that message.
What's the adopt-a-chapter? I'm guessing it's whichever AC chapter/club does the most with adopting an undergrad chapter? |
Well, I havent been formally given the position, but I may be the Scholarship Advisor for Brenau University-Mu chapter. Nothing is in stone yet?
I was also the Omaha Junior Circle Pres. too! |
I'm the Scholarship/Alumnae Relations advisor for Zeta Theta (Lafayette College). Wendy, when you become Scholarship Advisor, maybe we can swap some ideas!
I also contacted Rebecca Bryant about starting a Philadelphia Jr Circle, so we'll see how that goes... |
agdbirmingham, the Adopt-a-Chapter Program is an official program of the Fraternity where an alumnae chapter or club can adopt a collegiate chapter... they send them notes of encouragement, care packages, travel to help with recruitment (if they're geographically close enough!), etc. It's a great way for collegiate chapters without direct alumnae support to witness life as an alumna first hand from their adopting alumnae group. And vice versa for alumnae groups who don't have a local collegiate chapter!
Email the coordinator for Adopt-a-Chapter if you'd like more info: kathyagd@yahoo.com. :) |
The Los Angeles Junior Circle and Alumnae Chapter adopted Beta Delta in Indiana recently. We are (obviously) too far away to help them with recruitment, but we recently sent them a finals care package. It was filled with all kinds of yummy treats like cookies, licorice, popcorn...you know, all the sugar-packed items that every collegian needs to get through finals week! ;) They loved it, and from what I hear, the treats went really fast!
Adopt-A-Chapter is a great program! I definitely recommend looking into it if you are in an alumnae chapter without a collegiate chapter nearby. It just goes to show you that when push comes to shove, Alpha Gams are always there for each other. :) |
grrrr, everyone is an active alum but me :(. I think I might need to move back to MI where I can be active :D
|
UMgirl,
There are no alumnae clubs or chapters in your area? If not, maybe you should work on organizing one? There could be a bunch of Alpha Gams in your area looking to reconnect... just like you :) Loyally, Mai Ly |

I will trade Scholarship ideas (if I do get that!) for JC ideas with you !!!;) |
I know there is at least one Alpha Gam in Rochester because she's from my chapter!
|
LOL, there is a "supposed" JC in rochester. I called the girl as soon as I moved back home, and she told me that it just never went off, but IHQ gives her the names of girls who move into the area every year (which is why im hesitant to just start one, when its kind of her thing already), just in case they want to have events. I thought maybe she would put something together for IRD but it didnt happen. I know that there are a ton of AGD's in Rochester and an alum club would probably suit better then a JC since most (from what IHQ's sister search wesbite says ) would be ladies out of the 35 and under age range, I believe.

Does anyone still have the list of who won the alumnae chapter/ club/JC awards at convention in 2001 and who was on the honor roll? I was just curious where the most active alum groups are.
|
Don't know the specifics, but I believe Atlanta Alum Chapter and the Atlanta JC have won best alum chapter (?)
I know that the South Ga Alum Chapter is a 5 star chapter. :D |
I am the President of the Downtown Chicago Junior Circle chapter and am also the Communications Chair for the Chicago Area Panhellenic.
Both are new - I started the JC and our Panhellenic was just incorporated. It'll be pretty exciting to see where we go with both groups. LIEP, Amy |

see why I would love to move back to Atlanta? ;)
|
Thanks for posting all that! Looks like Hawaii and Atlanta did really well, as well as a few other areas! I'm so impressed! Hmmm...I wonder what their secrets are????
|
I know Hawaii's secrets lay within MaryLou (President) and MaiLy (past Editor, Delta Sigma Advisor, and current Panhellenic of Hawaii President). These two ladies live and breathe Alpha Gamma Delta! I hope to one day be able to work up to their status!
When you look at the backgrounds and current activities of the alumnae women, it's amazing how they find so much time to donate to the alumnae chapter and to Panhellenic. It took a while to read off the list of names of the organizations these women belong to at IRD. Many of them work with community orgs. out of the goodness of their own hearts! When the Hawaii Alums won the Outstanding Support to a Chapter Award, I really felt like crying happy tears. At that time, I was a collegian, and our alumnae really did so many things for us (Presents, Alum Chums, Scholarship Dinner/Auctions) so they were totally deserving of that award. That's why I'm so honored to be a part of this chapter and to be around so many accomplished sisters. |
