Students Made to Show Undies @ School Dance
Girls Made to Show Panties at School Dance
(WINS) May 1, 2002 1:35 pm US/Eastern LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Angry parents demanded the resignation of a California high school vice principal after she lifted the skirts of teenage girls at a dance to make sure they were wearing "appropriate" underwear. Parents at Rancho Bernardo High School in suburban San Diego say the vice principal, Rita Wilson, made the girls prove that they were not wearing skimpy thong panties before they were allowed into the dance on Friday. In some cases, said Rancho Bernardo parent Kim Teal, girls also were made to partially undress if Wilson or another teacher suspected that they weren't wearing bras. "These girls feel violated," said Teal, whose daughter Rebecca, a sophomore, was asked about her panties but escaped a search after telling Wilson that she was not wearing a thong. "One girl just cried after having to tell her father this story, she was hiding her head in a sweatshirt," Teal said, adding that the girls had their skirts lifted in front of men and their male classmates. "After a while the girls finally got the idea that they shouldn't say 'thong' when they were asked, even though that's all they wear now. They won't be caught dead in the locker room wearing regular underwear," she said Tuesday. Wilson and Paul Gentle, Rancho Bernardo's principal, were unavailable for comment on the skirt-lifting. Don Phillips, superintendent of the Poway Unified School District, said students, staff and others were being interviewed to determine what happened at the dance, which he said was attended by about 725 pupils. "The principal is talking with the parents involved," he said. "We are taking this seriously and want to ensure that any actions to be taken are based on the facts of the situation." Teal, a 43-year-old attorney, said she learned about the skirt-lifting from her daughter, whose friends were forced to show their panties in front of boys, teachers and police officers standing at the door. She said most of the girls who wore skirts or dresses to the dance, which had a "blast from the past" theme, reported being grilled about their underwear or forced to show them to Wilson or another teacher. Teachers also checked several boys who were wearing togas, Teal said, and some girls were asked about their bras. "I just got a call from one mom who said her daughter was wearing a poodle skirt and an off-the-shoulder top and a teacher reached right out and grabbed the front of it and pulled it down to check," Teal said. Teal said she and other parents would demand the resignation of Wilson and any other teachers involved and would also consider filing a lawsuit against the school district for violating the civil rights of their daughters. |
Thong check
Ah, yes, I saw this all over the San Diego TV news this week. What puzzles me is what do a girl's thong panties have to do with anything?
I just don't think one's underwear is a trigger to sexual activity, at least for normal people. |
I cannot BELIEVE that this happened! What the heck is going on at that school???
It's not okay to mete out corporal punishment (spankings) to kids who disrupt the classroom anymore, but it's okay to make a girl practically disrobe in front of a large group of her classmates, teachers, and police officers to make sure she's wearing the correct type of underwear?!?! I hope the principal gets fired, along with anyone else who took part in that humiliating experience. |
WTF

Say it ain't so, just say it ain't so. What is going on in this world?I can't believe these grown people thought it was appropriate to violate their students in such a way. Who cares what kind of underwear they had on. I just want to know what state of mind she was in to think that she was doing the right thing. And even if she did think it was right, why did she do it in front of the male students. She definitely needs to resign from her position along with the other faculty who allowed it to happen. What were they thinking? |
Oh WTF?
At first, I wasn't even gon' respond to this. This is ri-d*mn-diculous. It is. Ok, so, a girl no longer has the OPTION of wearing a bra????????? Or panties??? Now, that's outta friggin control. What will they dictate next? And is that in the dress code??? Cuz I'm sayin, that shoulda raised an extra eyebrow right there.
And wth has Sisqo started??? Quote:
Carla, hook me up with a WTF smilie in my post, please. :p http://www.louisville.edu/~ejbrow01/wtf.gif |
If they force the resignation of the vice principal and teachers they better fire the police officer as well. How could he allow that to happen???

ok, Ideal08, once again I am feeling you.....What is up with the checking out each other's thong in the locker room? Shoot, back in my day, girls would rush and try to change in the bathroom stall! And who is buying this underwear for these kids? There is NOOOOO WAAAYYYY I could even form my lips to ask my mom to buy me some thong underwear. Not even now and I'm 27!!!!! |

I had not read this thread at first, and now that I have, all I have to say is WTH,WTH,WTH , no let me change that WTF,WTF,WTF

Personally, I never understood the big deal about thong underwear. They are underwear. Period. Like any other and to me they are on the same level as a strapless bra- they serve a purpose. Thay purpose happens to be keeping everyone from knowing what kind of underwear you are wearing. I find the sight of panty lines dispicable and tacky. A thong prevents panty lines.
I have never understood pepole wanting to advertise what type of underwear they are wearing. You should NEVER know whether I am wearing panties v. a thong, red v. black etc. I think the faculty and the school district deserve to be sued for the violation of all of these young ladies. |
WTH???
All I can say is that I'm amazed that that crazy woman actually checked a child's underwear....what the hell is wrong with her??
This world is going to hell in a handbasket! (As my friend used to say!) |
Those teachers had no right to lift up or ask about thier underwear. Those girls have the choice and right to wear whatever panties they want. I personally am a fan of thongs because they show no panty lines and I much rather have one inch of material in my rear then seven inches!!!! :D
|
What!!
Ok, I really want to post n response to this post but, I can't bring myself to say anything lady-like ........
|
I just thought of something. Why did these girls allow the principle to even lift their skirts. Knowing me, I would slapped her hand the moment she decided to show my underwear to the whole world.
So lets say the first girl didn't know what she was doing? What about those that followed? They knew what this women was about to do. I'm not condoning her actions but my mother taught me not to let strangers touch me in the wrong way. Lifting up my skirt in public, in my opinion, is touching me in the wrong way. I'm really not understanding this situation. |
third hand info
A coworker of mine indicated that there is some history here.
Apparently, on a prior occasion, young ladies had been flashing their thong underwear. Also, a letter had been sent to parents advising them that underwear will be checked. Apparently this was disrupting behavior... With this info, I still feel that the school admin and the cops were incorrect in their manner. If there was an issue, they could have checked each individually in the locker room. What is this world coming to? |
Even if some girls had been flashing their thongs, this was still uncalled for. The inappropriate behavior was flashing the thongs, not wearing them. This woman had absolutely no right in the world to do this to those girls and need to be slapped and sued. Lord knows that's what I would do!!
What has this world come to if the type of underwear that your child wears is now fairgame for schools to regulate. If those girls want to wear thongs, then that's between them and their families. That is an issue that schools shouldn't even come close to. Underwear does not cause problems, the people wearing the underwear do. |
California Educator Punished for Thong Check
Jun 18, 2002 2:31 pm US/Eastern SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A female assistant principal was demoted for lifting girls' skirts to make sure they weren't wearing thongs to a high school dance. Rita Wilson's thong check April 26 in front of male students and adults had enraged parents, one of whom threatened to sue. The Rancho Bernardo High School administrator, who has tenure, will be reassigned to a teaching position, the school board decided Monday. "I'm very disappointed and deeply saddened," Wilson, 47, said as she wiped away tears and hugged supporters. An investigation by the school district concluded Wilson "went far beyond the grounds of propriety" with the underwear inspection. Students said Wilson lifted girls' skirts before they entered the dance, and told those wearing thongs to go home and change. Wilson said she was concerned the combination of revealing clothing and suggestive dancing could lead to sexual assaults. |
thong tha thong thong thong
I think the motive was to deter young ladies from being "unlady like and showing their assets to the world" the point is, we live in a society with rules, laws and codes of conduct. What the teacher did was in violation of law that Americans deem imortant; most importantly the right to privacy. She could have told the young ladies, that showing their underwear would not be appropriate and sanctions would be taken. She could advised them on being appropriate etc. but thats about all she could and should have done
|
Was the directive to do this "check" given from the central office of the school district? The administrator should have gotten it clear from officials, first before she decided to CHECK ANYTHING.
I see why so many people have the attitude that "I'm not touching (saying anything to) anyone." |

I swear, schooling is just not what it used to be. What difference does it make if they were wearing thongs or "grannies?" And to expose those girls in front of the entire school. This reminds me of the teacher who took it upon herself to right across a students face with a permanent marker. While teachers and administrators are worrying about someone's underwear, they need to be focusing on the United States terrible education system. We might be a world power but we are way behind in the education arena compared to other countries. Let's get our priorities together  |

Y'all, I am not a mother yet, but I can already see that when I become a mother of school-age children that I will need a very good attorney because I would be "straight ghetto-clockin'" on a teacher if she wrote on my baby's face!!! Kids will be asking my child "dag, I didn't know Cita was your momma:! *lol* |

Girl you are a stone cold mess. |
Is this woman related to R Kelly?
Hell Naw...
More needs to be done than just have this woman "demoted". I consider what she has done to be a "form" of pedophilia and molestation!!! Any grown woman who looks up a "child's" dress to "see what type of panties are worn" is SICK and should be criminally prosecuted. The girls who were subjected to this probably feel just as "violated" as a child who is inappropriately touched. There are sick people out there who get their kicks off this type of mess and she may be trying to play it down with her reason, but this woman is really sick. This woman needs to be investigated further. I sincerely believe that if investigators were to visit her home "unannounced" they would probably discover a whole slew of of child porn. |
@ AKA2D'91 and HoneyKiss
Yes, she wrote on the child's face:mad: I think the little girl forgot to bring home a signed note, piece of paper, homework, or something. Anywho, the teacher thought she would put a reminder on the girls forehead so she would not forget. As far as punishment goes, I do not remember but whatever it was I am sure it wasn't enough. If that was my child, a few of Bernie Mac's tactics would have kicked in:D .
