What was your first car?

My first car was a 1984 Red Pontiac Fiero. It broke down just about everyday but I still loved it and finally parted with it in 1994. :(

LeslieAGD 04-30-2002 10:33 AM

My first car was a 1992 Cherry Red Pontiac Sunbird. It had a lot of battery problems and the air conditioning never worked.

ladybug1116 04-30-2002 10:37 AM

I had a white 1987 Ford Tempo. I only just parted with her last fall.

The1calledTKE 04-30-2002 11:57 AM

It was a 89 honda civic hatchback. Had it for only about 4 months before I totaled it. I have had better cars ever since.

prospectiverushee 04-30-2002 12:18 PM

My first car was a 1995 Geo Metro. I still have it and it runs great

SAE1955 04-30-2002 12:24 PM

I had a 1977 BMW 320i (looked new if you can believe that)...it was pimp tight, until it broke down and got too expensive to fix 6 months later

AOIIBrandi 04-30-2002 12:29 PM

red 1982 Datsun 200SX. I got rid of it in 1993 when the mechanic said that it was only going to last another 6 months tops.

juniorgrrl 04-30-2002 01:15 PM

1995 Mitsubishi Galant. Am getting rid of it as soon as my mom gets a new car and gives me hers (1998 Mazda 626)

HA! My first car was a blue 1987 Ford Tempo. But that baby didn't last more than six months. She hit the dust when I decided it would be awesome to take some friends out to a county road and start jumping the bumps in the road with it. Eventually we started to get some serious air (all four tires leaving the ground) and the last jump brought her to her demise...

Optimist Prime 04-30-2002 02:09 PM

I had the 1994 in very bright please, officer, I really give me a ticket red. I read that red cars were more likley to get pulled over, so i put a bumper sticke that said "clergy" on it. Because who would pull over a priest? It was a total piece. Probably dead now. I got rid of it two years ago.

Siobhan 04-30-2002 02:19 PM

a 1981 volvo diesel wagon - god I was glad to get rid of that thing

LMAO...yeah no off roading in the Tempo. I'm picturing the car in the air...:D

A 1987 Toyota Tercel. It was such a hunk of junk. I had to put a quart of oil in every two weeks because the engine would just burn it. I had to stand on the gas pedal for like a minute to get it to 55, and it would start to rattle if it ever got above 60.

The state of California bought it from me after it failed the smog test miserably and was labeled a "gross polluter". :(

As much as the car was a piece of crap, I still miss it.

'91 Mitsubishi Mirage, a red hatchback ... and I'm still driving the darn thing.

DeltAlum 04-30-2002 06:20 PM

1958 Austin Healey (Bug eye) Sprite. The floorboards on the passenger side had rusted out and been replaced by plywood. I think it used more oil than gas. That was during High School.

College car was a 1958 Triumph TR-3A roadster. That was a great car that I drove until it dropped.

aephi alum 04-30-2002 07:03 PM

1992 Acura Vigor. It was my mom's car until she gave it to me about 4 years ago. She hardly drove it... you don't see very many 10-year-old cars with only 60K miles on them. :) I still have it, and it runs great. :)

GiantsChic 04-30-2002 08:20 PM

My first car was an '89 ford taurus... loved it cuz it was my own, but it only lasted 3 months before it finally broke down for good

1986 1/2 (yes thats right, 86 1/2) Nissan 2 wheel drive baby blue pickup. I gave that little 4 cylinder truck more hell than you could possibly imagine. Running across fields and hitting holes at 40 mph, sailing in the air, and hitting the ground only to have all the trash in the back of it go flying out all over the place. Out of all the place I took that little truck, the only time I stuck it was in about 2 foot of snow in the middle of a field. I blew it up my last year of highschool when I was coming home from my friends grandfathers funeral. I tried to race this piece of crap IROC and I ran the motor so hard that the motor mounts fell all to pieces. After that, you could be sitting in the drivers seat and in first gear the gearshift would swing all the way over into your lap. Thats when I bought big red and had her ever since, 300,000 miles later.

Honeykiss1974 05-01-2002 12:37 PM

My first car was a 1991 Mitsubishi Gallant. Had it through high school, college, and a little while after. I prefer foreign automobiles, so of course now, I drive a Toyota!:D

Dionysus 05-01-2002 12:42 PM

A teal 89' Plymouth Horizon. Ooh, I just loved the screaming noise it made that traveled for miles and the 4 liters of antifreeze (or water?) that poured on our legs everytime I made a sharp turn.

GreekLetterGirl 05-01-2002 06:51 PM

My first car was a red honda accord but when I got passed my driver's test I got a brand new Honda CRV ( Yes the girl SUV) but i love it, I don't think I will ever drive a car again, funny story about the CRV is that when my dad brought it home I had just passed my driver's test and I the CRV was parked on the street, across from my house, I was backing my red accord of the drive way and backed it right into my new car while my dad watched !!!! Yup !! I still acutally have my CRV and it is great to haul stuff in and is the perfect SUV for me !!

1973 Pontiac Bonneville. My first vehicle was a 1971 Honda CL100S, I got my license for it when I was 14.

Unregistered- 05-03-2002 02:43 AM

My dad had a 1970 green Chevy Camaro that he loved so much. After he passed away, it basically sat in the garage collecting dust. My mom eventually got it fully restored and it became mine when I got my license in HS. It never died on me and it never gave me problems!!

These days people think it's cool to have souped up "rice rockets"... I have my Honda now, but I still take "Lucy" out once in a while. She really brings back great memories of my dad.

MY FIRST CAR

1986 Grey Dodge Omni

ZTABunny 05-03-2002 11:00 AM

A 1992 Ford Escort and I drove the hell out of it until I went off to college!

ZTAngel 05-03-2002 05:38 PM

My dad gave me his old car when he decided to buy himself a Beamer. So, I ended up with his '91 Buick Regal. My friends called it "The Tank". It was a huge, granny car. I hated it. I was so excited when the transmission broke down and I was allowed to get a new car.

TriSigmaTX 05-03-2002 08:31 PM

84 Honda Accord with a Moon roof, it was grey, not silver, grey. Remember that color?
I loved it, but finally died when I went to college.

KSig RC 05-04-2002 06:57 AM

Freaking great thread -

I had a 1989 Oldsmobile '88 Delta Royale - big ass white car, v8, the thing was a huge piece of trash, company car that the company passed on to the family b/c it had over 250,000 miles on it, and had no resale value.

Put over 280,000 on it before I dropped the brakes out of it, totalling it without doing any body damage. That sucked.

TaraHopeful 05-11-2002 02:00 AM

My first (and current) car was/is a Silver 98 Malibu. I;ve added a few personal touches to make it my own...such as a hit and run dent on the drivers side (oops)..don't worry no one was hurt...just my car...anyhwo...thats my car

aggieAXO 05-11-2002 02:45 AM

I had a 76 blue Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. This was literally a boat. It had blue plaid interior and came with the 8 track tape player. I loved that car.

I bought a white 84 VW Scirocco for college-best damn car I ever had, totaled it though-damn drunk driver ran into me head on.

TechAPhi 05-11-2002 04:06 AM

Like AggieAXO, my first car was a major piece of American muscle, 'cept mine was a 1978 Pontiac Grand Prix. It, too, was a "boat." Ugly and gas-guzzling but you could pack all your friends in it and it was FAST! LOL.

KSigkid 05-11-2002 10:59 AM

1987 Buick Century Station Wagon, powder blue....yeah, you heard me right. Thing was a beast, you could see me coming from a mile away. Never got pulled over for a ticket, cause hell, they must have thought I was a 75 year-old woman driving it.

Senior year, two days before high school graduation, I got in a really bad accident, the back passenger side door ended up getting crushed, and the window exploded. Somehow, the car was still able to be driven, and I drove around with plastic taped over the open window, and a passenger-side door that was dented into the back seat. The car died on me right before I went back to school for my sophomore year of college.

My senior year in HS, my sister gave me her 86 Celica GT. It got her through college, me through college and 1/2 way through grad school. I had to "bury" her with 170,000 miles. :( :( :(

I miss her. We went through soooo much together. ;)

:D

That's funny...

My father bought me a new '94 Mitsubishi Mirage my senior year in high school. It died this past December '01. I had it for seven years. I figured I would have it at least ten years. The transmission died on me...just stopped running!!! I needed a new air compressor as of last summer too. I just don't know what happened. I do miss her. That car was apart of so many important mildstones in my life. I suppose since I graduated in December it was just time for a brand new start.:)
