What A Greek Does!!!!

I have had the pleasure of a young man coming into my store several times and we talked Greek!

Jared goes to U. Kansas. He was a member of the Colonization of Pi Kappa Phi!

He was in today and said they got their Charter and he asked for a donation for their International Charity!

After discussing it with him, I donated to the cause!

Members of the Fraternity are riding Bicycles from Sam Francisco to Wash. D. C.! 65 of them! They are planning 1 month to do it!
If you see any of them riding give a little! If you have a place that they can be put up, do it!

This is the good that We as Greeks do for others. It is a charity for the physically impared which is great! I know at one time I worked with the Special Olympics and know what good it does!

My Hat is off to the Brothers of Pi Kappa Phi and the good work that they are doing!

Hell, I could not drive that far across the country!:)

It is called The Ride For Hope!

This is what We as Greeks All Do, and get little if any recognition for it!

He also told me they are in the process of getting a house. Unfortunetally, it is a House from another Fraternity that is in trouble membership wise! Gawd how I hate to hear that!!:(

It’s always nice to hear about Pi Kapps representing themselves in a positive manner. The Beat Nu Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi at University of Houston will be represented by David Dalton in the Journey of Hope from San Francisco to Washington D.C. To read more about our national philanthropy please visit the Push America Website.

You can donate online at Push America Donations or if you would like to directly donate to a chapter and help with their donation goals you can find the closest chapter to you by accessing Pi Kappa Phi Student Chapters.

Hey! I know all about Pikapps and their Push America Philantrophy....it is SUCH a great cause...
recently this semester one of the PiKapps on my campus was raising money and training to be in this trek that ends up in DC like you had mentioned...
He came to all the meetings with his bike and told us how he was training for this cause....
he did a contest on our campus... for the organization that raised the most money for PUSH he would put their letters on his bike for the ride, and then take a picture at the captial and send it back to the winning chapter....
My organization raised the most money and will be featured on his bike....
I think it is a GREATTTTT cause and even better when all the greek organizations can get involved in helping out such a great cause...it really shows you that being greek is not just about fun and partys...it really is about unity and coming together to help others the way many of our organizations founders had intended....
and Philantrophy work is just a way for greeks to make a positive impact on our world :)

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE PIKAPPS PARTICIPATING IN PUSH!
:D

See yall in two months.

Lil' Hannah 05-25-2004 03:10 PM

I take it you're riding? That's awesome. I love to ride my bike, I'd love to go cross country, and doing it for charity would make it even better. Have a good time and be glad that you'll miss the cicadas in DC.

sigtau305 05-25-2004 03:41 PM

good luck

ISUKappa 05-25-2004 03:53 PM

Good luck! Are you on the north or south route? The guys that went from the chapter at Iowa State when I was in school always had a great time (plus the PUSH party when the riders came through town was always a lot of fun!)

If you're a poor college student, but would like to contribute to the efforts of the gentlemen of Pi Kappa Phi, you can always visit PUSH AMERICA, look for upcoming MAIL DROPS and send them a letter or note of encouragement!

TRUST me when i tell you that it makes their day! :D

Kevlar281 06-03-2004 11:51 PM

Sorry I haven’t responded to the thread in quite sometime. Today was the first day that I had internet access. I'm actually a crewmember (Historian) and have been training at the national headquarters for the past few days and I am now caravanning with the team vehicles and equipment to the staging point in San Francisco. I would love to receive some mail. From any of you just address it to Kevin V.

That is a kick-ass philanthropy event! Very impressive.

Xylochick216 06-04-2004 03:51 PM

A few Pi Kapps from Elon always participate in JOH. It's a very worthwhile event. I always keep up with their diaries and pictures on their website all summer long to see if I can see any of the guys I know. I know my chapter always donates towards their very worthy cause.

Best of luck to any GCers participating in JOH :D

BaylorBean 06-04-2004 03:57 PM

Kevlar281:
Do you know if the southern route is going through Dallas this year? My boyfriend is a Pi Kap and we would like to go to the nearest stop point to houston.

I have known many Pi Kaps over the years who have done JOH and Gear up Florida. They can't stop talking about how awesome it was and what a life changing experience it was.

Best of luck to all the riders!!

ztabchbum 06-04-2004 04:18 PM

How cool! Good luck to all the Pi Kaps participating in this event. If I lived closer to the route I'd be at one of the stopping points with goodie bags. Maybe next year. Again, good luck to the Pi Kaps and WAY TO FREAKING GO BOYS!!!! :D

GeekyPenguin 06-04-2004 04:34 PM

I think I might stop at the Milwaukee one since it's not too far from me! What an awesome thing to do with your summer! :D

Kevlar281 07-02-2004 03:27 PM

I just wanted to pop on in and give a qucik hello. The trip is going great. It's a lot of hard work but very rewarding. I have updated North Teams online journal (with picutes) up to day twelve. By monday it should be updated to day 18. Thanks for all the positive PMs of support. I'll post a quick update next time i get internet acess.

Yes they will be arriving in Dallas, July 12th. You can go online at www.PushAmerica.org to check up on both teams routes.
