Greek Nicknames
 

Ok, I often hear people say, "I'm a Kappa" or "I'm a Theta", etc. and I don't always know which sorority they're talking about. So, can everyone post their Sorority/Fraternity nicknames please!

Pi Beta Phi=Pi Phi!

We're known as Tekes. now i get why its we;re called that with the TeeKes and all. What I always wonder is why Pi Kappa Alpha are Pikes, shouldnt they be Peeks? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

I think that usually refers to the men's NPHC fraternity "Alpha Phi Alpha", a BGLO.

I am an Alpha Omicron Pi and we usually go by A O Pi. We don't use Alpha because there are two many organizations that start with Alpha. So, its not AOTT, cutiepie2000!

Thanks for the info but this was a girl in 10th grade - said "Alphas" were the biggest sorority in the United States. She got her info from someone at Cornell. I did not say a word ... just listened to her. Hey- she might of been in 90210 land with the Alpha Omegas- who knows!!!! Sue

Like AOTLALA said, there are too darned many national sororities (I count 10 of 'em) starting with Alpha for any one to call themselves that.

This leads into another question I had. I was listening to an old tape the other day and the 2 Live Crew song "Fraternity Record" was on it. At one point, it sounds like they say, "[Bleep] the prallay." I have never been able to figure out what they're saying, does anyone have a clue?

I asked some FIJI's where I went to school and they explained it to me as something like this.
Their full name is: Phi Gamma Delta.
First of all, their "nickname" is Fiji, because "Phi" in Greek is pronounced "Fee", and then they take the "G" from "Gamma", so
"Fee-G" or "Fiji".
Secondly, they told me that since they hold their letters in such high regard (or something like that), that the actual Greek letters only appear on the physical house, or on their badges (i.e. "pins").

Things like sweatshirts, will be written "FIJI". Hope that cleared it up!!

I'm a DU = Delta Upsilon. Most people can't pronounce Upsilon anyway... we pronounce it yoop-si-lon.

Does anyone know why Omega Phi Psi is called the Ques?

Is the correct pronunciation "yoop-si-lon" or "oop-si-lon"? I've always pronounced it oop.

AOII has already been covered but my husband is a Pi Kappa Phi. They go by Pi Kapps but at schools without Pi Kappa Alpha chapters they are also known as Pikes.

Here's a funny that my husband doesn't find amusing at all. When they first colonized no one could get "Pi Kapp" so they just said the whole name. When people were still confused they said, "You know, the boy Pi Phis." LMAO everytime.

The letter Omega is the Greek equivalent of the English letter Q. Omicron is the equivalent of O.
