SIGMA RHOmeos
Hello SoRHOrs,
I want to know what you all think about the Romeos? I know that most of the chapters have been dissolved (including the chapter that was here at Grambling State University) but over the years I have run into several former and existing Romeos and have recieved so much love from them. If the Kappas have their sweets and silouettes and the Omegas have their pearls, and so on and so forth----Why can't we have our RHOmeos?? Please help me understand ladies!!:( Shatanjela Black UNIQUE #1 1997 Gamma Kappa Sigma Chapter Grambling State University Grambling, LA:D |
Sorhor,
That is a special question with multiple answers! Here is one concept that I have observed as a sorhor! The Rhomeo club was basically the husbands of sorors. Some chapters used the sweetheart men to assist the Auroras during their pledge process and then after the Auroras crossed then they went through their process and became Rhomeos. I guess with the MIP Process comes about many changes. And I do believe that all of the fraternities you mentioned, their national organizations don't recognize those sweetheart groups. Sorors,
I have been curious about this as well. When I first became a soror, I do remember being told that we had no offical ties with RHOmeos. Unfortunatly, I have never met a RHOmeo, but I have come across some of their web pages in the past. I think alot of the "sweetheart groups", have disappeared. But I am always surprised to see some that are still active. (because they are illegal) I agree with Soror SeriousSigma22 that it probably had a lot to do with the MIP Process as to why we are no longer offically tied with RHOmeos. In general I think it is hard enough for Nationals to keep up with with their respective sororities and Frats (membership, conventions...the crazy lawsuits) then to take on other groups who represent you as well at a college level. I guess we could have a sweetheart group, but....I think it is too much to keep up with (especially as an undergrad) when you first have to worry about Sigma...(which is a job within itself! :) Tenacious1922 |
Thanks Virtual Violet for the confirmation!

SIGMA RHOmeos
I thank you as well Virtual Violet. I have only met one Iota, but I see that they are really gaining some ground on campuses! :)
Tenacious1922 |
There are a couple Iota's on Gramblings campus -- I don't think they have a chapter chartered there yet but I do believe they are working on it-- Anyway, I had no idea that they had sweethearts. That is very interesting to know. Thanks for the info. and thanks for your insights SoRHOrs. I do agree that it would probably be alot of work to keep up with an org. like that --especially when it came to the hazing issue -- males seem to view that issue in a different light from females.
Incidently, I guess the thought of having a group of FINE BEAUTIFUL BLACK MEN at my every beck and call appealed to me for a moment--I'm over it now.:D --but can you blame a sister for wishing!!!;) Shatanjela Black UNIQUE #1 1997 Gamma Kappa Sigma Chapter Grambling LA |
RHOMEOS
Hello Sorors,
I have never posted before but i must say that on our yard at Texas Southern University there are at least 7-10 Rhomeos. They are really sweet guys and they are gaining interest on our campus more and more each year. They also offer to help decorate for Sigma Week and they offer their labor when it comes to repainting and weeding the Sigma Tree. I have also meet Rhomeos from P.V. and they are some of the nicest guys I have ever met ;) Sigma Rhomeos are also at University of Houston. They are cool with me and if any of you sorors get a chance to meet a Rhomeo they will treat like nothing less than what you deserve RHOYALTY!! No with that being said I would like to ask what do you sorors think about Sigma Juliets?? |

Sigma Juliets?
Hello Fello SWAC SoRHOr,
I did not know there were Sigma Juliets. Please tell me about them. I know we have the Philos and the Rhoers but this other group is new to me. |
Sigma Juliets
This is an auxilary to the RHOmeos. I believe this is more common with Rhomeos that have branched out into their own fraternal order. They developed "sweethearts".
I think it' very special. |
RHOmeos
In TN, RHOmeos, are quite popular. At Middle TN State University, I know they have membership intake at least once a year. They host parties, do varities of community service and perform in non-greek step shows. They are dwindling in numbers, because some have gone on to become members of the NPHC or graduated. However, the last time I talked to a member, they just had some new members come in.!!
Happy Easter Everyone |
I don't think it's that deep...

I completely understand that our official auxiliary ties to Rhomeos were severed years ago because the NPHC no longer sanctioned "sweetheart groups" at that time. (That was before Iota Phi Theta entered the NPHC!) I have no problem showing them love because we are involved in their history. Now, I won't call a Rhomeo (or anyone else) 'frat', but I will show some blue and gold love. :) :) :) |
When i was in school one of the Rhomeos from Texas i believe, came down and kicked it with sorors from Riverside - every Rhomeo that I've met (either online or in person) has been MORE than courteous to Sorors.
Although they are no longer apart of our organization, most of them still acknowledge where they originated from and show much respect to us. i've never met a sigma juliet, but the idea of an auxillary to an auxillary seems weird.... but to each her own! |
RHOmeos
My chapter had RHOmeos back in 1995/96 and I was told that everything was great until other guys started to harrass them because they were "sweethearts". I have no problem with Rhomeos, but I can't say the same about the public. I've met a few RHOmeos and they have always been nothing but sweet to me!! If I have a choice I wouldn't mind it if my chapter had some!!! LOL!!!!! Mad Luv to the RHOmeos!!
|
Sorhors and Friends,
I had to agree with Sorhor PrettyPoodle6 that its kind of bizarre to be the sweetheart group to another sweetheart group! I'm having a hardtime with that one:D! Serioussigma22:p |
Yes, for real! That is hard for me to imagine.
|
I know of 2 Rhomeos:
The first being my former counselor @ my jr. college who is now a Iota Phi Theta(old school). He was a key person in my decision to becaome a Sigma Woman. The Second was a childhood friend who pledged at Langston U. in Oklahoma some years ago. He went on to become a Phi Beta Sigma. Other than those two, I've never met any. |
This Sigma Rhomeo just yelled at me :) LOL!!
Whats up Blue friends,
I have to share this anecdote with you. I was on Simply Greek,This young man posted a topic where in it he stated among other things that Sigma Rhomeos and Alpha Sweethearts run the yard at his school. I commented something like "how can sweetheart organziations run anything."( I thought it was funny :) ) Anyway, He went off on me for calling Sigma Rhomeos a sweetheart organization. He was basically trying to convience me that they are now fraternity. They are called Sigma Rhomeos for goodness sakes !:) They are no longer sweethearts But I thought it was interesting and funny. I hope they change the name if they do make themselves a frat. Because "Sigma Rhomeos Fraternity Inc." will always look like Sigma Gamma Rho Sweethearts to me. Divine Zeta |
LOL!!!!!! I saw that thread on Simply Greek too...Yeap he was really p@#$@#. I have never met a RHOmeo. We didn't have sweetheart orgs at Henderson. They were considerd illegal at Henderson in 1990 and I was a freshman at the time. If I ever get the opportunity to met one of these gentlemen I will return the RHOyal blue and Gold luv...I will show luv and respect to anyone who shows me luv and respect...
:D |
Sisterfriend,
I'm also laughing with you because if they are becoming a real frat. they do need to change their name. And you are so right, their still viewed and will probably always be viewed as sweetheart organizations. Serioussigma22:cool: |
Sigma Rhomeos
Greetings to all,
I am a member of the Fraternal Order of Classy Gentlemen, most commonly known as Sigma Rhomeo Fraternity. I can understand why anyone who has not actually met a Sigma Rhomeo would base their opinion solely on miseducated premises. And I can also understand why my brothers get frusrated or offended when people choose to render or publish an identity of OUR organization based on those illegitimate premises. I'm certain that many of you would do or feel likewise. As for the history with Sigma Gamma Rho, remember "Klandiana" and the tragedy at Rosewood. We weren't just there to assist in the daily functions of the sorority, but to serve as a simple means of protection for Blacks in the Indianapolis school district. However, to describe our relationship to other orgs, Sigma Rhomeo Fraternity is an independent organization that falls under the council of NEITHER the IFC or the NPHC. Sigma Rhomeo Fraternity is not a "sweetheart" group, an affiliate, nor auxillary organization. We are a self funded corporate entity with our own constitution and by-laws. Publicly, we operate under the most recognized name "Sigma Rhomeo Fraternity", but we function corporately as the Fraternal Order of Classy Gentlemen. On the campus of MTSU, we are registered and function as a student organization. We conduct a semesterly membership intake process, and collect dues once semesterly. The national headquarters of the organization is located in Austin, TX and is run by a governing body know as the National Executive Board. Sigma Rhomeo Fraternity hosts its own events and also co-sponsors events with members of the IFC and the NPHC. We are a community service driven social fraternity that provides students with a number of community service opportunities as well as social outlets. That is exactly who we are and what we are presently doing. No one outside of the organization can adequately define Sigma Rhomeo Fraternity without using any of the aforementioned statements. And if anyone simply must IMPOSE an identity we would prefer that you use the one listed above. Note that this reply is written in neutrality and is not directed at any group, organization, or individual. If you have any more questions or comments feel free to e-mail me at any time. |
Well said, Classy Gentleman...
I've met RHOmeos before and they treated me like a queen... not an outsider. Though I am still a neo, I know the history behind the fraternity and I respect it. Although you are a separate entity, I will still have blue&gold ties to you... in mind, body, and spirit.
If I see a P-meo, I can't help but show love as if you WERE connected... because at one time, you were. I can understand the offense taken by being labeled "Sigma Sweethearts," so out of respect of your history and mine, I don't think of you as such. However, P-meos can't expect me, a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., to just dismiss them from my view. If anything, I respect you more because you HAVEN'T dissolved, but sustained. In essence, dear RHOmeo, I DO NOT think your name should be changed or that the fraternity should take further measures to widen the gap from SGR. You're separate. It's understood & respected by me. Just don't forget your "former sorors" (just a joke, no hate mail pls!) in your future. To me, we'll always be "connected," bRHOther... it's all history. Mad love to those FINE & KIND Classy Gentlemen of Sigma Rhomeo! |
Rhomeo
Being a Classy man of Rhomeo, I must say that I TRUELY inlove with Lady Sigma. I Love, Respect and Cherrish her!! She is on my mind and My mind is where she will remain. But I must say no matter how much I love Lady Sigma, We(Sigma Rhomeo) are not the "Sweetheart" or "Little Brother" too Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. We function as our own fraternity, with our own idenity. We have our own constitution and well as Bi-Laws!! Also on that note I do call SGRhos SoRHOrs. I attend Florida State University and the SoRHOrs here or at FAMU don't seem to mind, or have a issue. So to my frat, "STAY CLASSY" and to my SoRHOrs, Stay BLU-tiful and follow the GOLDEN Sigma Light!! One love!!!

Rhomeo_Othello, as long as you and your members are doing whats right, people shouldnt have a problem...but we all know that some people are ignorant amongst other things. I have love and respect for your organization and the D9! Hold it down! -Yemaya-

Wow!! I am so pleased to see that Sigma Rhomeos posted replies! As I stated before I have never recieved anything other than MAD love from them and I wish them all of the best in their future endeavors.:)
