Getting carded...
I guess I'm still young enough to be irritated when I get carded...
My husband and I went out for drinks the other night. I got carded, he didn't. He's less than a year older than I am. Now, I can count on one hand the number of times I've been carded since I turned 21, and I'm 26. I didn't even get carded on my 21st...! (I noticed but decided not to mention to my husband, that this particular place had posted a policy that they card anyone who looks like they're under 40. If I'd mentioned that to him, he'd have ordered an extra 3 or 4 drinks. :D ) Soooo... informal poll: - How old are you? - How often do you get carded? (Bars or nightclubs, where they card everyone at the door as a matter of course, don't count.) - What's the drinking age where you are, if not 21? |
I'm only 22 but I get carded every single time I drink because most people think I look really young. I was even out with my dad for my 22nd birthday and forgot my ID and the waiter wouldn't even believe my dad that I was of age. (I understand the he could get in trouble if he served me, but he gave me attitude like I was lying!)
|
I am 26 years old and I get carded for everything you can get carded for including R rated movies. There is nothing like going on a date and the ticket girl asking for your ID...the guy looks at you like "oh please at least be 18" and I whip out my drivers license and tell roll my eyes. I must be stuck in some kind of weird reverse aging. I was never carded when i was 18...21, but not its everytime!
|
I'm 23 and I get carded regularly! We go to this one jazz club quite frequently and they've stopped carding me there (they KNOW I'm old enough by now!:D) but I still get carded.
The funny thing is when I go home to Nova Scotia and get carded at the clubs there! The drinking age in most of Canada is only 19....do I look that young?! There are girls in the bars there that look like they're 17 or 18, and yet they card me?! Weird! On my 19th birthday I went to the liquor store and bought myself a bottle of Absolut (my plan for years.....do a little pre-downtown drinking with my mom) Well, they didn't card me!!!! I was so pissed....I wanted to be carded so I could say I was legal (and that it was my birthday!:D) I went home and told my mom.....so we went back to another liquor store for some rum for her....I went in and bought it, so they could card me.....and they didn't again!!!!!!! If only I had've known it was that easy when I was younger! LOL!:D |
I am 24 and still get carded EVERYWHERE. I have to make sure I have my license if I'm in the liquor store with my husband, at concerts, at restaurants and of course bars. I was thoroughly embarrassed at this one place. They ran my license through machines several times, under a light and magnifying glass several times and one of the other bouncers, who happened to be one of my friends, kept telling the guy I was 23. I held up the line for at least 5 minutes while they quizzed me. After all of that, I refused to stay there and give them any of my money. I don't deserve to be treated like that and still patronize a place that I know lets people in under age  . I still do that to this day. If someone wants to scrutinize me that much, they don't need my hard earned money :p

Damn. I'd love to get carded.
I'm 54. |
i'm 22 and i get carded for everything too(drinks, cigarettes, movies, etc..) but quite frankly, i LIKE getting carded, because it's like proving someone wrong every time!
|
I am 30+ but until a year or 2 ago, I still got carded quite often (especially if I was just popping into the 6 pack shack with no makeup on). Not any more...I guess the ravages of time have finally gotten to me.
|
im 19 and have two more months till i turn 20, and ive never been carded
|
I'm 24 and still get carded - apparently I look under 19 (BC's driking age). Funny thing is though if I go to the liquor store during the day if I need to pick things up, dressed in my grubbies and no make-up on I never get carded. Yet when I'm all done up it's id please - what's really annoying is that my baby brother never gets carded and he's 18 and isn't suppossed to be setting foot in a club for another 6 months...;)
|
I'm only 20 (turning 21 this June) so I have no stories of getting carded. But here's a somewhat funny story...
One night, my roommate and I and our boyfriends all went out to dinner together. Both of the guys ordered a drink. My boyfriend, who is almost 25 got carded. HER boyfriend, who is 22, did not. And we were at the same table! But, her boyfriend looks like he's at least 35... poor guy... |
I am 20 but I am studying abroad in France right now so I never get carded. I keep forgetting that I`m not old enough to drink in my own country yet...
|
I'm 22 and I hardly ever get carded. If I'd known I looked that old, I'd have tried to buy beer when I was younger.
|
26 years old
Carded: Here in South Africa, never. Drinking age is 18 and I look 18 I guess. Back in the states, still does. People say I look 19 clean shaven. |
26, and get carded for everything. I feel the pain about rated R movies. One time I had to go all the way back out to the car and get my liscence in order to prove to the 16 year old at the counter that I was over 17. I told him when I got back that I could guarantee I was older than him, boy did he look stupid when he found out I was 24. The cop that was standing there almost died laughing :D

In Baton Rouge, I always get carded. Drinking age is 21, and I'm 22. When I'm at home, a suburb, they never card for wine in the grocery store - its just not the same level of security I guess.
Once, my mom and someone from her work took me out to dinner at a restaurant here in Baton Rouge, I was 19 at the time. Well, the rule here is that you can drink in restaurants with a parent, provided you are over 18. So, my mom ordered me a glass of wine. Well, the waitress served the wine, and then a few minutes later came back and got an attitude about it - said that she had to remove one of the glasses of wine on the table! And THEN she said the manager required her to card everyone at the table - My mom was 51 and her friend was 43! Being carded by someone probably barely old enough to have their bar card. 21 is a stupid age. LA always had it at 18 until Congress threatened to take away federal hwy money if it wasn't raised to 21. Hmm...so much for that constitutional provision that allows states to set their own drinking age. It says nothing about the government being able to threaten that right with sanctions. *gr* When will everyone realize that LA was founded with French and Spanish influences, and we just don't have that uptight Puritain way that influenced the original colonies, and eventually spread to the legal systems of the other states?!   |
I'm 26 and my husband is 24. Drinking age in Ohio and Michigan is 21. I rarely ever get carded. If they card me and not him I get pissed. One time I was screwing around with a waitress and asked her why she didn't card my husband and she said because he looked old enough...she was wearing one of those pins that say "We ID". She kind of laughed because she felt uneasy and I just looked at her and said, "I don't think your manager would think that is very funny." So she carded him and I told her that my husbands ID was fake. She didn't know if I was serious or joking. She ended up "taking a break" and another waitress finished serving our table.
I think it is hilarious when I go into a store and they card me. I had one store clerk who carded me, looked at my license, and then apologized for carding me. At my wedding reception they wouldn't serve one of my bridesmaids (who was 23) because her ID was in her car. It was down pouring outside and she refused to go out to her car. They did however serve my brother who was 20 and his girlfriend who was 17. They were both so sh*tfaced I'm surprised they could actually walk up to the bar. Let's just say I went over to the Country Club the next day and had a few choice words with them. |
I am 20 and when I go to buy cigarettes, they sometimes card me, but usually not. I have never tried to buy alcohol, other than when I have already entered a club/bar as 21, but I am sure I would get carded. They are really stict around here. I only have 6 months and 3 weeks to go!! :D
|
I'm 22... Getting carded depends on where I am. I get carded at liquor stores where they don't know me.. I rarely get carded at restaurants though... Underage drinking is a large portion of their income ;)
|
I'm 23, and drinking age here is 21. I don't get carded for movie tickets, but I have gotten carded for cigarettes, alcohol, and lottery tickets (please  ). Usually for alcohol, b/c I look like I'm 15. I once went to a bar after turning 21 and the guy who took my ID looked at it, looked at me, glared back at the ID, and then back at me-I was like, for the love of god, I'm old enough!! Finally, he tossed it back on the counter in front of me and said, "what do you want". I said, " a little less attitude" and walked off. Even though I usually don't care when I get carded, but the guy was such a jerk about it!
|
I don't get carded much - of course, I get carded to get into some clubs that demand ID from everyone. But I seem to get carded more often when I'm with my parents. As if I would lie about my age in front of them!
I don't like being carded, and it annoys me when people say, "You should be flattered they think you're younger." What is this youth obsession? Maybe when I'm 40 I'll want to look 35, but at 25, I want to look exactly my age. People card my mom, who is in her 50s, and there is no way she looks under 21. They do it to try and flatter her, and it just peeves her. (But on the other hand, her sister just loves it when people try that on her!) |
One of my bro's had his dad come out with us for his 21st. His dad got carded, and wasn't even buying alcohol, only a cheeseburger! Also, another bro and his fiance were going to the movies, American Pie 2 I think, and they both got carded. he's 22 and she's 25.
|
I guess you can think of it as a good thing that you all still get carded. It means you still look young!
I got carded the other week for a Rated R movie. The guy looked at my ID and saw I was 21. He laughed and then apologized for checking my ID. My boyfriend thought it was the funniest thing. I certainly didn't. But, I'll sometimes get carded for alcohol. If I go to a grocery store to buy alcohol, I'll get carded but I don't at restaurants. A couple of friends of mine who are waiters/waitresses say that's because many of the servers won't card because they don't want to end up losing their tips. But, at the same time, if they serve someone who is under they can lose their job! I think a funnier story is one my dad tells to everyone. He was 30 years old and I was 3. He was at Publix which is a Florida grocery store chain. They checked his ID. He says that was the single greatest moment in his life....30 years old with a child and still getting carded for alcohol! |
When I was growing up in Columbus, there was a 3.2 bar ("Low" beer only -- 18 years old in those days) on the Ohio State campus that carded everyone...period. If it was still there, I'll bet I'd get carded if I walked in today.
Also, Columbus had an 11:00 PM curfew for people under 18. One night during high school I was out with three of my friends after curfew, and we had stopped in front of one of the guys house to drop him off. The other three guys were 18 and I was still 17. I don't remember if we had been drinking or not, but anyway, this cop decided to check us out. He asked for ID's from the other three guys -- and then looked right at me, said OK, and walked away. Lucky. I just remembered something else. In those days, drivers licenses didn't have pictures on them. It wasn't uncommon on campuses to have to show your university ID, drivers license, and in the guys case, your draft card to get into a bar. |
I get carded everywhere!
I'm (almost) 26. We can't go to rated R movies without me getting asked for id. Sidebar: When I was a senior in high school, I was the one they'd have buy because I looked 21. I guess that was my peak! |
Kinda a funny story having to do with this:
This past weekend I went to an Alpha Phi date party at one of the toughest bars in town, this place called The Kells. For the date party it was 18+, so they were IDing everyone coming in (21+ got a bracelet and didnt' have to pay a cover). The bouncer looks at my real ID, and says "That sucks - only a week till 21, I really wish I could let you slide." Me, my date and a friend tried convincing the guy that, since it was a private party, and I'm so close ,to just let me get a bracelet, but it didn't work. So I walk into the bar, and the first thing I see is one of our brothers, who is decidedly not 21, with a bracelet. I asked him about it, and turns out he showed his real ID (saying he is 20), and the bouncer misread it and gave him a bracelet. Collin |
I still have to show id even though I have been legal for a decade. I guess I have good genes!:D
|
I am 23 and get carded EVERYWHERE. Even for lottery tickets- dont you have to be 18 to buy tix? I think I look at least 18!!
I just the joined the choir at my church and one of the ladies asked me, "So, what you brought you to this city?" I explained that I just graduated, and she says, "Oh? From what HIGH SCHOOL!" So, yea, I look pretty young! |
Hell, I have BVDs in the drawer older than most of you!
Get Pissed, only when they quit carding you! You know what if they do that you are looking OLD!http://www.plauder-smilies.de/jump.gif |
i'll be 24 in 2 weeks. i get carded when everyone gets carded. i never get singled out and neither do any of my friends.
i admit i get "insulted" some times...but i understand they're doing their job. they can get in big trouble. and let's admit it...how many of us can tell the difference between a 21, 22 and 23 year old? it's pretty hard now movies...i have never had that problem. but i know that if i did, i would have some choice words to say to the kid and his manager. |
Oh, I have TONS of stories on this one, but I'll try to keep it short. :)
I'm 26. I was home on break from school when I was about 19 and went out with my mom. This lady she wanted to see about something she was thinking of buying asked if I was having a good day with my grandmother (who had recently passed away). I said no, but that I was having a nice time with my mother. She then decided to ask my age and almost fell over when I told her. She thought I was 12. When my husband and I got married (Jan. 2001), we had to take my son to his grandparents', which is about 400 miles from where we live. They are in a really conservative town not far from Amish country. The next morning, we went out to breakfast, and I noticed a lot of people staring at us because we were holding hands. They thought I was his daughter. I'm sure we were the topic of conversation for at least the rest of that day. A week or so ago, there was a knock on the door. We have a volunteer fire dept. and they were asking for donations. When I answered the door, the guy on the other side asked to speak to the lady of the house. |

I'm 25.
I CONSTANTLY get asked which high school I go to. I think that takes care of the "do I get carded" question :) When I go to restaurants, I don't even wait for the waiter to ask for my card, I just hand it over. |
Ok, i go to school in this small town in Indiana, which means you must be 21 to go into bars, liquor stores, and in some restaurants the smoking section, which is the bar. (Oh yeah, I turn 21 may 2nd so im like dying here.) So I decided that wed go to Ruby Tuesdays for dinner, we were going on a double date thing. Ok so of the four of us 1 is 21, we decide to try and sit in the bar because that is the only place you can smoke, so we get into the bar no prob, the waitress comes and asks if wed like anything to drink, we had talked about it extensively before hand and decided to try, we got 2 beers and she got a margarita, the of age person didnt order anything, so the waitress takes or orders and we like celebrate because we pulled it off. She comes back to the table, sets our drinks down, and asks for our ID's. so we did the typical under 21 thing and said we didnt have them, she turns to my date, the one who is 21 and wasnt drinking, and asked for hers, she had actually forgotten it, so we got kicked out of the bar, which was kinda embarassing, then as we are leaving one of our professors is walking in. oh yeah, and i do get carded most of the time to get tobacco, this one lady even made me go out and get it from my car.--JIM

I'm 21, and practically never get carded, I don't think I look that old either. Maybe I don't because I have one of those faces people tell me (like you think you know me or recognize me from somewhere). I did get carded when I saw this R rated movie a couple weeks ago which I didn't take offense to, I just thought it was funny. I'm 5' 9 and I go see this movie with two friends, one who's 6' 4 and the other is 6' 2. I get carded, they don't. I didn't get carded for movies when I was 16, and now I'm getting carded when I'm almost 22? I thought it was funny but just shrugged it off.

get carded everywhere!
some people think i look like a 13 year old! |
