Greeks at Jesuit Schools
I was recently asked about other Jesuit universities having GLOs (national or local). Can anyone let me know if they know of any Jesuit universities with GLOs and which ones have them...thanks!
Jen Kappa Delta, Eta Gamma Chapter John Carroll University |
Rockhurst University in Kansas City has TKE, Pike and a Catholic GLO that I can't remember the name of. SAE has been there for years and is on probation, but I'll bet they'll be back when the smoke clears.

Greeks at LMU
Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles has 6 sororities: Delta Zeta, Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Sigma Lamda Gamma and Delta Sigma Theta; and 5 frats: Sig Ep, Sigma Chi, Lambda Chi, Alpha Delta Gamma (a Jesuit frat), and Sigma Lambda Beta.

Marquette University (WI) has greeks - I not exactly sure which ones, though (AXiD, Triangle, and a bunch of others)
Loyola University (Chicago) has some as well - Kappa Beta Gamma, and I'm also not sure the others University of Detroit Mercy - Kappa Beta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta (?), Sigma Pi, and others which I'm also not sure of off the top of my head. St Louis University may also have a greek system Actually, most (but not all) of the Catholic Universities in the US are Jesuit (though some are Dominican, Franciscan, and Norbertine). The best bet would be to check a school's about page and then go to student life. There are a lot of schools out there. . . Loyola Marymount is getting a new Pi Phi chapter!

Saint Louis U. does indeed have a Greek system. Their list of student organizations is here: http://www.slu.edu/html/student_organizations.html
Rockhurst also has a ZTA chapter. Fordham U. in NYC does not have a Greek system. |
It's not mentioned on the SLU website, but Delta Gamma is also on that campus- they were a colony for a while and their charter as a chapter was just installed last semester. My best friend is one :)

This website has a list of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in the United States with links. http://www.ajcunet.edu/areas/ji/members.asp

Creighton has Alpha Phi, Theta Phi Alpha, Delta Zeta, Pi Beta Phi and Gamma Phi Beta.
Fraternities include: Phi Delta Theta, Phi Kappa Psi , Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon , Sigma Phi Epsilon On a related trivia note...Kappa Beta Gamma used to have multiple chapters and was a member of the NPC. I withdrew from the NPC when they dropped to only 2 or 3 chapters nationally. I *think* the remaining chapters still communicate with one another, but I don't know what kind of national structure is still in existence. There are chapters at University of DEtroit-Mercy, Loyola-Chicago, St. Norbert College. There used to be a chapter at Loyola-New Orleans. |

Sarah P.S. I know this because I'm helping set up their national archives and work with the chapters on theirs. |
Beryana,
That's so cool! I know for a while there was no expansion on their behalf. Maybe things will get back to the point where they might consider rejoining the NPC. Not many of their chapters have web sites - the one that I did find a couple of years ago indicated that they were pretty much 'on their own'. Glad to hear things are turning around for them. Their national website is:
http://64.176.185.61/ (obviously not something that's really easy to find. . . ) I also think the only chapter site is at Northern Michigan University (www.geocities.com/kappa_beta_gamma) I'm really glad that they are growing - and I think they are looking at eventually joining NPC Sarah |
Santa Clara has Alpha Phi and Delta Gamma. The greek system is not recognized by the university though.
|
The University of San Diego has Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Phi, ADPi, Kappa, Theta... perhaps more, can't remember offhand.

probably because they just chartere on Saturday. :)
|
I was also wondering ... the National site says they want to be Pan-Hellenically affiliated. Do they mean NPC or NPHC?
|
NPC, I think they just spelled it incorrectly. Or rather hyphenated it incorrectly.

There is no recognized greek life at Boston College although you can join at other schools or other organizations
|
Same at Georgetown. . .
Georgetown is similar to BC.
The only national social fraternity we have is Alpha Epsilon Pi, which is just over a year old now, I believe. We have/have had members of Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi (we're talking pre-97 on the Ques), Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Lambda Upsilon Lambda (Both chapter founders went to GU), and Lambda Pi Chi. We have some service and professional fraternities with vibrant fellowship programs: Alpha Phi Omega (that's me!), Delta Phi Epsilon Professional Foreign Service Fraternity and Sorority, Delta Sigma Pi, etc. Quote:

Santa Clara University has off-campus GLO's. They lost University funding and recognition a little over a year ago after the University decided they would attempt to shut down the Greek system. The plan has backfired, and both the fraternities and sororities have nearly doubled in size, and even at that, hundreds of men and women must be turned away each year.
Fraternities: Sigma Pi, Pi Kappa Alpha, California Phi (a local, formerly SAE), Sigma Lambda Beta, Nu Alpha Kappa. Sororities: Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi, (Kappa Kappa Gamma is reportedly colonizing next fall). |
Thanks for all of the replies...you guys are great:) I realized that I never mentioned what organizations are on John Carroll's campus...
Sororities: Kappa Delta, Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Gamma Phi Beta Fraternities: Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Kappa Tau, and Kappa Sigma |
University of San Francisco has had multiple GLOs, including PI Kappa Phi, whose chapter helped us get chartered.
|
Wheeling Jesuit University does not have any kind of Greek Life.
|
At Spring Hill College, down in Mobile, we have a small but thriving Greek Life that is supported by the school.
Our sororities are: Delta Gamma, Phi Mu, and Tri-Delt. Fraternities are: TKE and Sigma Chi. AKA also gets a few girls from our school while there are also two Local Fraternities that have a few guys from campus. As a side note, we are a Catholic Jesuit school. Colleen:) |
