Famous Greeks
Does anyone know where I can find out about well known members of fraternities and sororities.
|
In From Here to Fraternity by Robert Egan.
|
If you go through some similar topics on this board, many are posted. Good luck!
|
Simply go to official webpages or chapter webpages and they usually list famous alum...also Greek101 has a list of famous alum, however I have had to correct them on who's in which GLO...so I wouldn't count on them...
I didn't mean that to sound rude...I have spent time doing similar research so I know who's in which GLO. In fact they still have Lee Merriworth, or Merriweather as a Sigma Kappa and I believe she's a Chi Omega (I don't even know who she is)...nevertheless, you get my point... |
here's a related thread: http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/...ML/000865.html

Thanks for the info on Lee Meriwether...

FYI: Batman, Adam West, is a Beta Theta Pi

From our national page...(pics are there if you are interested go to www.tridelta.org then click on distinguished alums (kind of outdated as it only dates through 1988!!!):
It is impossible to include all the women of merit, for Tri Deltas are outstanding everywhere in every way. I think Emily from realworld/road rules challenge (the one with curly hair http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif ) is a Kappa Delta.

So many times I've heard "I heard so and so is an AGD"...I can't wait until IHQ comes out with an official listing of our accomplished alumnae. ------------------ "Talk doesn't cook rice."--Someone smart Visit Alpha Gamma Delta-Delta Sigma chapter! |
That old show "Coach" often has a Beta Theta Pi Paddle in the background in various epsiodes. Many have often thought Craig T. Nelson is a Beta but hes not. I've heard the Producer of the show might be.
Siobhan, I'm Kelly green too http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Yeah, I suppose I messed up there. You got the idea though. John Turner was a Canadian Prime Minister. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Miami1839 (edited March 23, 2001).] [This message has been edited by Miami1839 (edited March 23, 2001).] |

I know Turner was PM (back in the early 80's) I just thought the british in front of canadian pm was quite amusing http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
Hi everyone!
O.K. here's my question...I always see Sarah Jessica Parker's name listed on webpages for famous members...these are usually on school webpages. Anyway, I've read a few of her biographies and none of them say that she even went to a college or university. So, can anyone shed any light on this situation? The same thing goes for Cindy Crawford...I know she went to Northwestern. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif One more thing...Kristen Davis (Charlotte from Sex And The City) went to Rutgers University. Does anyone know if she's a GLO member? Thanks in advance http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
An episode of Sex and the City had Charlotte lunching with her Delta Gamma sisters. Perhaps she is a DG? Though maybe not as they sorta poked fun at the stereotype of a "sorority girl"

Oh and I don't think Cindy Crawford was, but I could be wrong. She left school to be a model fairly early in her collegiate career.

Famous Brothers of Alpha Phi Omega include Bill Clinton and Jimmy Buffett
|
Prominent Delta Upsilon alumni include:
James Garfield (president) Lou Holtz Edgar Bergen Alan Thicke (yeah Growing Pains!) Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Linus Pauling (winner of two Nobel Prizes) Charles F. Kettering Arnold O. Beckman (inventor of the pH meter) That's just a few, a huge list is at the following URL: http://www.deltau.org/international_...ers/famous.htm |

I thougth Jimmy Buffet was a Kappa Sigma?!?! And Tridelt Girl, Bing Crosby's wife was a Chi Omega. Kinda funny...they must have a strong greek line by now! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ What do you get when you cross and Alpha Omicron Pi and a Sigma Phi Epsilon? A beautiful Chi Omega!!! |
For Delta Tau Delta, check www.delts.org under "About Delta Tau Delta" and then "Notable Delt Alumni."
A couple of easy ones, though: Drew Carey, David Schwimmer (Friends) and Matthew McConaughey. Also, three Superbowl winning quarterbacks: John Elway, Denver Broncos; Mark Rypien, Washington Redskins; and Jim Plunkett, Oakland Raiders. Check the website. There's a long list from business, entertainment, politics and sports. DeltAlum I need to learn to spell: [This message has been edited by DeltAlum (edited March 23, 2001).] [This message has been edited by DeltAlum (edited March 23, 2001).] |
amycat412...
They featured her as a Kappa, not a DG. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif (Just so you'd know http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif) Thanks for the info, though. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif |

You can be an Alpha Phi Omega and a Kappa Sigma, I believe, because APO is a service org. Right??? |
Jimmy Buffett is an honorary brother, not alumni.
|
Jimmy Buffett is an initiated brother of Kappa Sigma - http://www.kappasigma.org/notables/Notables.html contains a list of others, like Robert Redford, Ted Turner, etc.
As far as Sarah Jessica Parker, she's an Alpha Phi, according to my friends here. |
There are lots of really neat AGD's, one of which was the last Miss America to be crowned in her bathing suit!! But, my favorite is that, although the actress Rue McClanahan is a Kappa Alpha Theta I believe, on The Golden Girls, there is an episode where she talks about her sorority years and her character, Blanche Deveraux is an AGD!! That's actually my fave one and not many people know about it!!
|
Barbara Bush and Dr.Mae Jemison (also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha) are honorary sisters of Gamma Sigma Sigma.

Shopgirl- Sarah Jessica Parker went to the School of Creative and Performing Arts high school here in Cincinnati, so I doubt she went to college. I would imagine after 4 years of theater/acting classes she would just go to LA. That's just my assumption, so don't hold me to it if I'm wrong. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I'm pretty sure Sarah Jessica Parker didn't go to college. She was on Square Pegs in the early 80's when she was like 18, and has been working steadily ever since.

AEPhi claims the lovable Mrs. Garett (Facts of Life), Charlotte Rae as an alum from Northwestern U. Another promininent alum is Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court. And a moment of silence for America's second female astronaut, Judith Resnick, who died in the Challenger explosion.
------------------ Phi Love, AEPhiSteph |
Does anyone know if Dixie Carter, "Julia" on "Designing Women", is in a sorority? I know it's a weird question, but I LOVE her on that show and was just curious. How about Delta Burke?
|
Dixie Carter is a Tri-Delta. I heard from somewhere that Delta Burke was a Zeta. Not positive because we don't list her on our national website under accomplished alums but I know that some ZTA chapters include her under famous alums on their websites. Does anyone know?
