Designer Jeans!
I was watching a Three's Company re-run and Janet had on a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. Oh, the memories!!! Summer between 8th and 9th grade I wanted a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans more than ANYTHING! I asked my mom but she told me in no uncertain terms "NO WAY!". I told her Belinda and Debbie from my junior high school had them and THEY got free lunch, so why couldn't WE afford them? My mom informed me that it was probably BECAUSE they got free lunch that THEY could afford them! So, I worked at the autobody shop my uncle owns doing cleaning, filing and answering phones to save up the $48.00 the jeans cost. That was A LOT of money to me! lol Finally, I was able to purchase them and, boy, were they sharp! Dark denim with red piping down the sides and Gloria Vanderbilt's signature in red thread on the back right pocket ( ) I was so proud of them! I swear, life was so simple back then :D
|
For my twelfth birthday, I got the best present ever- Sasson jeans ohh la la! Until then it had been Wranglers and Lee's for me. My wardrobe expanded to include Sergio Valentes with those pockets and stripes. Finally I acquired a pair of Gloria Vanderbilts. I also had Lacoste shirts with the little gator. Then, one day in 1985 that look was out and it was on to Calvin Klein for me. :D
|
After trying on a friend's pair of Abercrombie & Fitch jeans I wanted a pair so badly. The jeans fit me perfectly. I had finally found jeans that were long enough for my legs! But, they run over $50 a pair and my mother was like, "No way in hell am I spending that much on a pair of jeans..." I never owned a pair until last summer when I started working there and bought the jeans with my employee discount.
|
ALL of YOU must have GREAT BODS!
Those types of Jeans or not made for those of us who do not fit the damn skinny CHARTS! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/fart.gif |
I have ALWAYS disliked jeans. So my mother never had the problem of buying them for me. Just last month I had to go out and buy a few pairs for my new job. I was shocked, but I chose a pair of Calvin Kliens and Tommy Jeans that were so nice and comfy and on SALE at Dillards.
I don't follow jean fashion, so i'm not sure what is designer or not, but I know when I was younger Calvin Klien jeans were expensive! |
I'm seriously addicted to Miss Sixty Jeans. I bought them in Italy, where they are made, for sixty dollars when I was studying abroad. Here they are generally $120.00 !! But they are so great because they make them really long and in small sizes for people like me who usually have to pants several sizes bigger for the length. Obviously, I haven't bought a pair here yet, but getting several new pairs is just more reason to go back to Italy. Yeah, like that reasoning is going to work on my parents!
P.S. I really like Lucky Brand and Seven Jeans too. |
When I was younger, my favorite pair of jeans ever was a pair of Calvin Clien... Sooo comfy! I lived in those things! I tried on a pair of Lucky Brand jeans recently and they fit perfectly.. and then I looked at the $75 price tag... that's just too much for a name, even if they do fit great!
|
I love the way CK jeans fit!
I remember the days when everyone (including me) just had to have those Guess Jeans- had to have that triangle! |
Oh my God.....I was a total jeans junkie!!!!! I think I started with the Calvin Kleins and then moved into the Jordaches.....remember all the variations of Jordaches?? There were the ones with the yellow stitching, the ones with the white stitching, the different butt pocket stitching.....
I had a pair of purple pinstripe jeans, I think Gloria V or Sergio Valentes that I thought were soooooo cool. Remember when Chic jeans were "designer?" And I think you get Jordache at Wal-Mart now. Ah how times change. Although they did bring back Sergios.....they run $72!!!!! Cheaper than Seven and Earl I guess. |
I love Diesel jeans, but I usually hate how much I have to pay for them. The best day ever was when one of my sisters and I went to Urban Outfitters during a sale and found the sfenx for $30. I'm sure that'll never happen again, but I had perma-smile for like a week.
|
I get so annoyed at myself for spending money on designer jeans in department stores when they are about half price at the outlets. Yesterday, I found Calvin Klein jeans for $30. That's really good for around here.

Okay, getting off topic but...
Can I have some recommendations on jeans that fit? I have like every figure flaw on the book: My waist is 2 sizes smaller than my hips (so birthin' the babies won't be any trouble, but don't go pants shopping), and I have a relatively long rise...but I'm just under 5'4". My hips are really low and square, too. I find that at a lot of shops I fall between sizes (AE, J. Crew), and I also like to wear my jeans on the loose side. I want something that sits on my hips and doesn't get in Jane's way (she's my belly button ring :) ) but doesn't show the world what color underwear I have on when I sit down. And I don't want to trip on the bottom. Okay, so maybe I'm being unrealistic. Can y'all help me anyway? |
Ok I have the HARDEST time finding jeans that fit me right b/c like I have NO butt and like no hips so theyre always like baggy on me and that sucks plus Im short but have averagly long legs so ugh its soo hard to find good jeans...but my favorites have got to be MUDD jeans~they fit so well and make me look like I really have a butt*definite plus!! lol* Lucky jeans~ OMG these are like my absolute fav but soo damn expensive like 70-80 a pop..I usually put them on layaway like 3 pairs at a time at Buckle so it doesnt seem like Im spending that much lol I think i need to find some other favs!! lol if anyone knows any great jeans that arent too pricey let me know!!!

I am a bigger girl and I cannot live without my Venezia Jeans. They are long enough and fit great so I look thinner than I am. I also like Zandi's if I want something that rides low.

Hey!
KappaStarGirl :)
Try DKNY stretch jeans or Blue Asphalt Jeans! Girl I have some of the same problems too. I am a size double zero, but I have really really, long legs and NO butt. You can also try GAP. Those are my absolute favs! Good Luck! AlphaGam1019, *lol* OMG are you serious???!!! A fake rip and a BOW?!?!?!?        But I loved to chill in my pair of faded pinstripe Jordache Jeans with my matching Gitano purse! They were hot! (back then) If anyone else knows any other kind of jeans with a double zero, please let me know! :) Have a great night |
For people who are trying to find jeans that fit well, try mavi (not too expensive, smaller girls can usually find the right fit). Also, kenneth cole makes jeans that fit really well, and you can usually get them for decent prices at the end of each season.

Tracy,
I too loved Gloria Vander. jeans. I had the ones with a swan stitched in blue on the back plus a matching blue G.V. shirt-I lived in that outfit in 5th grade; I also had a gazzilion Jordache and C.K. jeans. In 8th grade Guess came along and I begged my mom for a pair-she finally got me some for Christmas and I wore them forever. I even wore them through college ( luckily I stayed the same size from middle school to college-that is not the case now at 30 :() . Now I prefer Levis, Gap and Express jeans. I have barely any hips or butt so these brands fit me the best. |
Before i had no problem finding jeans and actually liked going jeans, pants, shorts, skirt shopping. Now, i hate going in to look for jeans!
I can never find a pair i like. This is my problem, i am short and have short legs, which means i have to get the "ankle" or "short" ones. I dont have big hips, but i dont have a small waist either. The problem with wearing regular jeans is that they are sooo tight on the waist but fit good in the hips. If i get a bigger size, then its baggy in the hips area! That is why i like jeans that are lower, but dont like the ones that go down too low because like someone else said, i dont want them to see my victoria's secret underware!;) Another problem i have are with the bootcut jeans! I think they are cute and look nice on most people but not on me. I dont have fat legs, but they arent stick thin either. I blame this problem on dance classes! My legs got muscular so they are bigger, yet not bulky looking. So when i try on a pair of jeans that are bootcuts, they are incredibly tight on my legs!:( I have never tried Lucky Brand jeans, but i think i might want to! Sometimes jeans can get expensive, but i am willing to pay $70 for them because when i find a pair that fit i have to go for it! Presently, I wear Ralph Lauren "Saturday" signature jeans, they were only like 58! Does anyone else think that nowadays they are making the sizes sooo much smaller??? Recently the times i have gone to the mall and tried on a pair of jeans, i have had to get a size or two bigger, while all the clothes i have at home fit me fine? |

I definitely don't have the same jeans problems as the rest of y'all. First of all I most DEFINITELY HAVE A BUTT. DEeeeeefinitely. Clearly. LOL.
So jeans never fit me around the waist that fit around the butt. But here's a kicker. I have been losing weight of late, and my butt has shrunk (some, but not enough that my guy friends have gone into mourning, lol- they are so funny) but my thighs haven't. So now jeans that fit at the thigh don't fit at the butt or at the waist. I like low riders because I have nice abs and can show em off, but I also don't want anyone knowing what color my panties are. Add to all this that petite sizes are always a LITTLE too short, but regular sizes (with the exception of MUDD jeans, which I very much appreciate) are way too long it takes WORK to find jeans to fit me! |
Quote:
I love bootcut jeans too, but they are always tight in the thighs, and now to make things even MORE interesting thay are baggy in the butt when they fit in the thigh. It is all very upsetting. |
No jeans for me
I haven't worn any jeans since I was a teenager, and I'm in my late 30s now. My buttocks are rather large, high-riding and well-rounded, and there's at least 12 inches difference below my waist and my buttocks/hips. And I don't believe in taking jeans to the tailor. :(
I do like denim skirts, however, if they are tailored and don't look too Westerny (I can't stand Ralph Lauren's spring 2002 line). I used to have a good one from DKNY in the early 90s. |
bucutie and lovelyivy---I totally hear you on the bootcut thing. I don't think that being a size 6 is big and yet my legs look awful in most of the bootcut styles. However I did find some Calvin Kleins that fit really well and also a brand called "Silver". My Silver jeans are my favorite pair and they run about $50. When I can find a store around here that carries them I'm going to buy another pair :)
|
LOL! Guess Jeans with the butt-triangle! Those were the days. That was when I was in about 7th grade. Let's see, what else was popular then...does anyone remember Pepe or Z. Cavaricci?? Or Girbaud? Wow, haven't thought of those brands in awhile!
|
Oh I loved Girbaud jeans-I hadn't even thought of these in years, thanks for the memories.
Tracy, I'll pass on your donation-he he he, Turning 30 has increased my waist and hip size fast enough for me:D I don't need help ;) he he he |
My official school uniform is jeans and letters, unless for some reason i'm feeling incredibly dressy. Anywho, I digress. Last summer I was working at newspaper in Santa Cruz, CA. While I was on my lunch break, I went to this designer clearance sale that was being held in the building next door. I tried on this cute pair of jeans that said Earl on the tag, and they fit like a glove. So I bought 3 pairs. Lo and behold, I was opening InStyle Magazine one day when to my surprise I discovered that all kinds of celebs were wearing the same brand of jeans as me, and they paid a fortune!!! Don't hate me too much, but I only paid 40 dollars a pair!!!
Yay!!! I love bargain shopping!!! -Lil Snakey K |

I think I may try that Web site that makes custom jeans, if I want them that bad. |
My favorite jeans are Gap. My figure flaw is a high, uneven waistline that's not contoured the same in the front as it is in the back. And i have NO ass. The back of my waist is contoured normally, but I carry my weight right in front - so that means were it not for my front midsection, pants would just slide off my butt. Plus, because of my scoliosis, one hip is higher than the other, so my waistline isn't perfectly even. Its not noticable to anyoen but me because stuff that fits right at the waist pulls.
I find that Gap jeans always fit well, even though I usually have to try on a few pairs of the same size to find the perfect pair. Their boot cut jeans are amazing. I have some of the modern boot cut ones as well. They're a lower rise, which I like, but they're supersmall in the thighs - a tiny bit tight on me and i have next to no fat on my legs. |
jeans
I hate boot cut jeans bc they make me look like I have a pouch. I bought a pair of low rise jeans at old navy that everyone thinks are so cute. I aslo paid $60 at the Gap for a pair of ultra low rise jeans- they are definately ultra low. I love GUESS and I like express as well. I only like low waisted jeans bc they make my legs look long and lean!
|
I love boot cut jeans, but I'm tall and I think they definitely look better on tall people. They elongate the leg and slim it I think. I like low-cut but not TOO low-cut. Below the navel is fine, let the belly ring breathe, but I hate these new Britney Spears pants that hit below the hip bone.....I don't care how skinny you are, if your waistline cuts straight across under your hipbone (which is the widest part,) you are going to look broad. Not a flattering thing.
Levi's has a couple of cuts out that I like....577s (which is slimmer through the top and wide through the leg) and 515 boot-cut which is lower waisted than most Levi's but not too low. They are not junior sizes, they are regular 4-6-8-10 etc and they fit better. I do like Abercrombie pants and jeans though. I prefer pants that have patch pockets with flaps (like army pants) on the butt, they definitely make your butt look slimmer and perkier. I can't stand those pants with no pockets or anything.....may as well put a "Wide Load" sticker across your ass. |
Ay yay yay....did we have to go there with this topic? :) I *always* have an incredibly hard time finding jeans that fit.
Here's my difficulty - I'm 5'8'. I have a small waist, wide hips, big ol' butt and long legs. Things that fit at the waist tend to make my butt look titanic and ride *way* too high. I feel like a geek with high-waisted pants up to my armpits or something. Jeans that fit in the hips are usually too short and I look like a geek with high-water pants. Sooo...I usually end up with jeans that are slightly baggy which will sit low on my hips. Then, I buy them in the "long" version if possible - or I'll just buy a size bigger. 'Cause I can't stand pant legs that are too short on me! At the moment I'm wearing Levi's 555 jeans. They're nice and long. I've had some success with certain cuts of CK jeans. I also own a pair of jeans from the Gap that my sister gave me (I don't know which style they are). The Gap jeans I have are cool 'cause they sit low on the hips. Someone told me that Old Navy carries a huge selection of different sizes. My roommate often shops for custom sizes on the websites for The Limited, Old Navy and the Gap for her jeans and pants. As for designer jeans back in the day, when I was in Jr. high in 89/90-90-91...it was all about Guess? Acid washed, stone washed...you name it! :) I had a pair of dark blue Jordache jeans with the yellow thread. I think I also had a pair of light grey Gloria Vanderbilt jeans as well (yes, with the embroidered swan!). hey, does anyone remember Cross Colors? Those brighty colored, baggy jeans were really popular around 1991-92 or so. ......Kelly :) |
I absolutely ADORE Express jeans......I have at least one pair of every style!!! They are some of the only ones that fit my waist and butt (I still have the "black girl gap" but its not as bad as with other jeans) and they come in lengths. :D I also like lei and Paris Blues jeans--but they have to be stretch--the regular ones are cut to small in the thighs.
|
Mavi would be my first pair of designer jeans. Its funny cuz I use to make fun of all the girls on my campus who went to Bivouac (the store) and spent like $80 on them. But then I started to like them and went there..got mine on sale for like $50 (which to this day I have never paid more than that for jeans). I love Old Navy, Express and Buffalo-David Bitton jeans, specially the low riders.I like Mudd to but sometimes they make my butt look huge.
I agree with the bootcut statements though. I use to dance and swim on a team, and now my legs are freakin built to the point where I feel like im wearing tappered jeans when im in bootcut. Has anyone else notice though that Express's extreme flare is like a normal flare and that their normal flare is more like everyone elses bootcut? Aboutt he sizes seeming to get smaller comment, I just think thats funny cuz just a couple of years ago some friends of mine were complaining how the sizes seemed to be bigger than what they should be. Ha Ha, I saw a pair of Pepe jeans in Marshalls the other day :) And no offense to anyone but... theres actually a size double zero now?!?!?! |
Sometimes it's worth it to pay the higher price. Everyone must own a pair of Lucky jeans. I am also a huge advocate of JCrew clothing. I am rather short, so JCrew P2's work just fine. I can't handle the Abercrombie jeans I tried. Although I have bought every pair of khaki capris I own from this establishment, the jeans I tried were tailored for taller girls.
|
Yeah girl......
Yup there is a size double zero :) The size zero Gap jeans I have are extrmemely baggy on me. And I heard Express had a size double zero as well (is that true?) I'm 5'6 and 106 pounds, I guess that's why.....
I am hearing Mavi jeans everywhere........where can I get a pair? Quote:
|
I am almost 6'0 so I am all about the long jeans! I have Abercrombie, Lucky, Gap, Ralph Lauren and Silver(recently stolen from the laundry room in my dorm :( ). I would have to say that my favorite pair right now are my Abercrombies because they are long without the crotch hanging down like a lot of tall jeans do. In junior high I bought guys jeans that were baggy for some strange reason, but in elementary I had the No Excuses jeans with the bows on the backs of the legs..haha.. hey, they were in style at my school! haha..
