Step Off Competition on 106 & Park
National Greek Network, Inc. and Greekfest.com proudly support a televised Step Off competition on BET's 106 & Park.
The "Step Off" will be a step competition spanning over a two-week period. The "Step Off" will be a competition between the "Divine Nine" Historically Black Greek Fraternal Organizations in the National Pan-Hellenic Council. This event presents an opportunity for all organizations to come together as a united force and inform the young viewers about the positivity associated with being a member of a lifelong historically black fraternal organization. The purpose of the "Step Off" is to promote awareness about historically black organizations to the black youth and to also celebrate the art of stepping. Each organization will have 1 minute to perform on stage. There will be no music used during the performances. Traditional Stepping and Vocals only. Props may be used. Round 1 will be voted on Bet.com by our viewers. The Finals round will be voted on Apollo style by our audience members. I have other comments but I will wait to share. |
I love stepshows! But you will never see me in one :D
This kind of reminds me of that show that used to come on TV, Stomp...I would be glued to that TV! One minute!? That's only enough time to do one step. Come on, I want a show! Can I get three minutes also? |

I'm all for stepshows, but I though the NPHC was boycotting BET.....am I wrong??

i wasn't going to watch anyway, but one minute isn't nearly enough time. |

EEEEEEW!!! That's SO Wack!!!
BET wins the "Wack Award" also!!!!
1.) 1 Minute for the competition??!! WTH?? 2.) No Music??!! And the competition is on 106th&Park ...How ironic... 3.) The way they grouped the competitions together REAKS!!! Instead of the way they have it, they should have all the Fraternities compete against each other and all the Sororities compete against each other (that is, if they HAVE TO have a competition in the fist place, which I don't reall think is necesary anyway)... |
Back in Spring 1997 (what a good year:D), Video Soul had a Greek Night with all of the Divine 9 sitting on the couch for a segment giving information about their organization. During the show, they showed on the screen, founding info as well as famous members. Anyway at the end and the halfway mark, they had 2 orgs step -- AKAs were the sorority but cannot recall the fraternity. That was more informational but since I was a NEO -- I was geeked as hell watching it with my sands and taping it.:o But some thieving son of a guns stole it:mad:
Now on to this 106&Park Step Off: 1. If they are only having 2 orgs step for the hour and a half show, why not allow them 3-5 minutes to step, just replace 2 videos (it's okay -- it won't hurt) or replace the guests who will be on that night. That makes sense right? Because IMO, stepping for ONE MINUTE is http://www.louisville.edu/~ejbrow01/bsflag.gif. I am not a stepmaster or anything like that by no means but stepping for one minute hardly makes it WORTH coming on. 2. BET would do good to talk to the organizations' chapters about what they do throughout the year in terms of service, academics, and uplifting promoting BROTHERHOOD or SISTERHOOD. 3. BET's ratings will push through the roof for these air dates, anyway, because we want to see what our orgs do in terms of a ONE MINUTE STEP http://www.louisville.edu/~ejbrow01/bsflag.gif, which chapter out of the hundreds of chapters will be chosen to represent our respective orgs, and of course, who wins. 4. The pairings are far too predictable. |
where are the teams from. what can you do in one minute? an intro. this should be interesting.
|
TTT
Just bringing it back to the top, and hoping that the stepteams get more than ONE minute to step. Hope every one watches tonight.
OO-OOP! :) |

VOTE for Winners @ http://www.bet.com |
I watched the step off between the Sigmas and the Iotas and I definitely believe the Sigmas represented! (Not saying that the Iotas didn't BUT I liked Phi Beta Sigma's performance better.) I'm looking forward to seeing Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha compete as well as Zeta Phi Beta against Sigma Gamma Rho. Good luck! ;)

And a bit of plugging here :) : I know the writer of the web soap opera "As The Sands Burn", and I just want to give that link www.bet.com/community Have a nice day! |
I saw it too
I was home today during lunch and was able to catch their Step Competition. Yall I was hollering. I saw the Iota vs. Phi Beta Sigma routine. First, no disrespect but why did Iota pick a dude that could not speak!!! He was stumbling over their history highlights and then couldn't even get the web address out his mouth!
The Sigmas had a very eloquent brother representing. Of course I think they did way better than Iota even without the "gimmick". :D |
I think the Sigmas did a good job and the Iotas did a great job also.
I cannot wait for the sororities. |
FREE
HELL NAW!!!http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rough/twak.gif
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo that chick threw up the pyramid. She did not close it but STILL. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO     Not to mention her tacky outfit. http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rough/twak.gif |

I think the Alphas did a good job. The Kappas on the other hand, I was wondering when it was going to get good; and then it was over. |
Free did what?
Okay, I missed something. I did not see this..Free through up the Delta sign? Alrighty then.
|
AWWWW MANNNNN....

I did catch Free throwing up the pyramid. I think the only reason she didnt close it was because she had the mic in her hand. I was like, dang...no she didn't. I hope she don't try that stuff tonight:eek: When she did it, I thought it was gone be trouuuble, trouuuble. I was thinking the Deltas in the audience would react or at least their facial expressions would change, but like candygirl said, the one up front was just-a-smilin'....maybe she didn't see it. |
Re: FREE

ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS WHY....SHE WAS EVEN TRY ING TO THROW UP THE PYRAMID IN THE FIRST PLACE. SEE SHE BETTA BE GLAD I WASN'T IN THE FRONT ROW CAUSE I WOULD HAVE BROKEN OUT THE JAIL HOUSE MUG LIKE WHAT???? |

I've been watching the competition. I must agree with what has been said thus far. The Sigma's performance was great. I as shocked as everyone when they took off their masks and there were the 2 white guys there, truly representing their org. The Iota's, did a good job, but I have to go with the Sigmas on this one.
The Alpha's vs. the Kappa's...I'll have to give it to the Alpha's. I have seen the Alpha's step on may occasions, those men definitely have their stuff together. While the Kappa's show wI was a little disappointed inthe Kappas, but I believe had they had more time it would have been better. Of course I'll be watching tonight!!! :D |
LOL @ CrimsonTide4
I actually had to gasp when I saw Free doing the pyramid. I think she didn't realize what she was doing because she referred to it as "the roc" a la Jay-Z. Realize that A.J. had to correct her.
I have to admit that the Alphas did their thing in that one minute. I was a little ticked seeing them with staffs, but they worked that in a cute but non-insulting way. The Kappas were cool, too, but I saw one of them kinda throw his hand towards one of them like "Forget him" because the other dude messed up in the last 10 seconds. I swear it was way more than a second. They were still cool though. As wack as it is for one minute, I'll be checking it out, too. |

Last year old girl on Tom Joyner, Sybil, OO OOPed on air and Tom had to check her. I need folks to realize that everything you hear is not meant to be repeated. And please no one say that maybe Free does not know Greek culture -- bull because she is a GAW and I am sure she has been to a stepshow or 2 in her time. REMINDER: Tonight is the age old showdown of 1908 v. 1913. I have no doubt that we on GC will continue to conduct ourselves with maturity and decorum that exemplifies GREEK RESPECT unlike what I have been reading on the BET message board. |
Re: AWWWW MANNNNN....No she isn't...

LMAO! Edit: those peeps on BET probably aren't even greek! |
Re: Re: LOL @ CrimsonTide4

I agree. The responses on bet.com are pathetic. There is NO Greek Respect at all. Some guy from this particular fraternity bashed my org in a horrible manner. I had to check his butt but then I realized I had stooped to his idiotic level. |

represent-n. (ebonically speaking :) But after our MANY conversations in the past about if they people that they put on TV are really OUR SORORS, or GREEK, makes one wonder (like they did on a Different World, Sister Sister, etc........) But I will admit this is going to be an INTERESTING show!!!!!!! *Question* Did the Sigma's win? I know that the Alpha's won against the Kappas!!! :):):):) |
How do you know

When did they announce this? |
BET MEssage Board Commentary
Quote:
I am appalled at what I have been reading. The language, the insults, etc. -- y'all know that would not happen up in hea. :) Some of the commentary is coming from outsiders/GDIs and they are doing it to stir up tension further. As an insider, I am disheartened at what I see. :( |
SHE DID THAT MESS AGAIN
Who ever said AJ schooled her LIIIIIIIIIED because SHE did it AGAIN!?!?!
Tonight she even did a low key ooo oop while subtly throwing a pinky up!?!?!?!?! I am about to have cardiac arrest up in hea. http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rough/twak.gif http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rough/smileydies.gif AAAAAAAAAAAAAALRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT DST just stepped:D :D They had me OOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOPING in the house. My vote has been made!! :o :D |
Go to BET.COM to Vote
All Sorors and Sisterfriends please go to www.bet.com/stepoff to vote for the Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
They definitely represented DST well today! OOOOO - OOOOOOOOOPhttp://www.bet.com/stepoff |
BET Stepoff
The Deltas represented on BET! They had me over here EXCITED! I never really go to stepshows and the like, so this was a real treat for me. If DST doesn't win, I'll know it was a conspiracy!
By the way, I saw Free make an arse of herself again...the things celebrities get away with now-a-days! Nubian:D |
I saw it and heard it too..............
Being a non member I had reservations about posting an opinion on something thats not my business, but Im thinking...... did Free NOT go to college ?? There is no other explaination:eek:
I thought I was confusing the Alpha vs. Kappa incident when I saw this post and now I see that not only did she do that yesterday but today too??? Did she do the call yesterday too? Hope she is not a prospective-if so, its looking grim...... |

Sorors, I made my vote already, but the one minute is just not enough. I hope they work on the timing for next year, seeing that this show idea goes over well in their ratings. Oh I almost forgot, the boys from MY HOMETOWN - Louisville, KY, NAPPY ROOTS, was on the show!!!! :D:D:D:D This was a very exciting show for me today!!!! Sorors, if you can, attend the 128th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 4. It is a sight to see! Holla back! |

ROTFLMAO. I missed the show today:( but I hope to see the rerun tomorrow. But you all have me dying over here, especially CrimsonTide. Free should know better though. Did she do it in front of the teams or the representative who spoke for the organization. In that case somebody should have pulled her to the side back stage or something. Its like total disrespect regardless if you're a T.V. personality or not.
