Pat Green concert cancelled after assault
This concert was to have taken place tonight in my hometown, Corpus Christi, Texas.
Pat Green concert cancelled after assault By J.R. Gonzales Caller-Times Texas singer-songwriter Pat Green was assaulted in South Padre Island on Monday evening, forcing the entertainer to cancel his Tuesday concert that had been scheduled for the Concrete Street Amphitheater, officials said. At about 6:50 p.m., Green was assaulted while he, his wife and some friends were on the beach, according to police and Concrete Street officials. "We arrested the person that assaulted him," said Robert Rodriguez, South Padre Island Police chief. "We're still investigating the case." Rodriguez wouldn't release the name or age of the man. Green suffered three fractures in and around one of his eyes and is listed in guarded condition in a local hospital, according to Jerry LaTouf, president of Concrete Street Amphitheater. Last month, Green played to a sold out crowd of 56,000 in the Reliant Astrodome during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The demand for Tuesday night's show was no different. "It had just taken off huge," said LaTouf. Because of the high ticket sales, the Party on the Patio concert had to be moved from the patio to the main stage. LaTouf said ticket buyers need to go to the point of purchase for refunds. Otherwise, the tickets will be honored at the rescheduled date, which could be a Saturday in June. The San Antonio native is a graduate of Texas Tech University, and he had never even touched a guitar before he set foot on campus. But after generating a cultish following in Lubbock and self-funding the release of his first album, he now performs about 140 shows a year, mostly in Texas. His last release was "Three Days," which hit stores in Oct. 2001. This is the time of year thousands of students normally descend on South Padre Island for Spring Break. "It's crowded right now," said Rodriguez. Contact J.R. Gonzales at 886-3779 or gonzalesj@caller.com March 12, 2002 |

Also wanted to add...
This was in our paper today on the story. A breif description oif the kind of music we've been discussin on this thread. not much of a description, but one none the less...
Green is one of the stars of the "Texas music" movement, a raucous country offshoot popular among college students. He recently released his major-label debut, "Three Days." |
Any news on how Green is doing? :(
I just saw him last month when he played for my brother's fraternity during the Grand Opening of their new house. He's a great entertainer. :) |
I hear today from one of the girls at work that on the news last night, they said that PG's face was all scratched up. :( The guy who assaulted him is like 18-19 years old and is from out-of-state.

I just heard....
Five bones in PG's face were broken.
Also, the guy who assaulted him is an 18 year old from Minnesota. He was arrested and is free on a $5,000 bond. PG has no plans on cancelling a show that is scheduled for this Friday in South Padre. He will also perform in Austin in about a week. |
