O (the Oprah Magazine): her show has become an hour long psychologist session and her magazine is just one hundred pages of the same
Haper's Bazaar: it's way too intellectual for a fashion magazine
Essence and Ebony: simply because they talk about the same thing over and over and over again. It's simply not worth that twelve or thirteen dollars per year.

Cosmopolitan - I will browse this one at the store but would never buy it. I have yet to see anything remotely resembling umm... reality in that mag. I suppose that's not what they are selling but still ....

Sister 2 Sister - i've seen too many interview articles with Q: and A: Is it just laziness on their part or do they believe that some readers can't decipher between questions and answers without seeing the Q's and A's. hmmm... maybe i'm just not the intended reader!

Jet - I'm with Lovelyivy84 on the jet beauty thing... yuck!

Vibe/Source - i don't identify with anything in these

When Honey first came out I wanted to subscribe, but since they changed editors, I 'd rather line my birdcage with it:rolleyes:

I love Vibe and O! Please don't hate on my girl Oprah. But I agree with Honey, The Source and Sister 2 Sister. Honey lacks content but the cover always looks nice and The Source is just too vulgar. Sister 2 Sister is actually funny! It's like a black National Enquirer.

It stands for "Finally every dimension of the streets"

2. Don Diva Magazine
It is called "the street bible".

These magazines talk about things like, what every ganster needs to know, ladies rules to catching a baller and they love to interview "gansters" straight out of jail.
My mothers co-worker loves these 2 magazines!!!

I actually Love the Mag "O" ...... It is full of info ...Don't get me wrong Oprah tries to be the DR. on call and she is not but she tries. Anyway, her mag is pretty cool ...

I received a Honey magazine in the mail that I never subscribed to. Hmmm, I always wondered how this forum made money, are they selling our addresses?

Guess what...I just stopped by the house to pick up my mail at lunch time and low and behold, I had a copy of HONEY in my mailbox!!!! It's also the issue with Alicia Keyes on the cover. What's up with the article on vibrators? :eek:

Sorors - we may all be getting this magazine. Take a look at the address label and decipher the code on that label. Other Sorors I know have the same "sor" at the beginning of the subscription code! I was trippin off the address label because it has my maiden name hyphenated and there's only one use that I use my hyphenated maiden-married name. ;) I don't think it's coming from GC...

Well, I receive my mail in a different location than my residence, but I haven't yet seen Honey magazine. I'm quite a bit older than their target audience, however...;) :p

Update: My 74-year-old mother, a soror, got this magazine. Was irritated at "half-naked" Kelis, Pink, and Joi on the cover. But gave ups to Nick Chiles' piece on the racist NIC incidents that emerged late last year.

Mine doesn't say "sor", it says something else ;) ;)

I looked at the label, to see if I had any clues ;), but it was my basic mailing information abbreviated.
WAIT: they misspelled my LAST name, so it isn't sorority related. That chit is spelled correctly, first, middle and last name...lmao!

I got the Honey Issue too, at work :mad: . Since the only other publication I receive at work is .BVQ - Black College Quarterly, I can only surmise that THEY are the ones who "sold" my name to Honey

How come I got Honey too!!!! I was curious so I decided to read it. Why was I so mad when I fiished that I BEGGED my niece to tear it up. And do you know what she did? Left it in the middle of the floor, in pristene condition!

Okay, my mother got the Honey issue too. She called me up asking me if I had subscribed to it her name. Mommy, don't you know me better than that.

I'm not surprised that she got it because she's on every mailing and telemarketing list from here to Pluto.

So did my mother, and my mother is 74 YEARS OLD. No woman in my family is Honey's target audience -- my only sister is 52 and I'm at least 10 years older than what I think is its demographic. :eek:

Hello Sorors & sisterfriends of AKA

Guess what our very own Sorority sold us out....
I got my second issue and this time it had a cover letter and I am sure you will all (SORORS) get the same. I already tossed it but it states something to the effect that because we are members we are getting a 1 year introductory subscription.... freaking GREAT....

They also say hope to see you at Boule ... so I am almost positive AKA did this. ... Now if it's not AKA, then I would suspect sisterfriends would get the intro letter also... however it would incorrectly state them as Sorors ... you see what I am saying...that would mean a listserve or chat (hint hint) website sold us out thinking we are all Sorors because we hang out in the same place...

What yall think?

I got my second issue too and I am NOT happy!!!!! This magazine is HORRENDOUS!!!! Why oh why would ANYONE think that we would want this? Another question: if Hney has all of our names and address AND if they got it from Corporate....what's next?

When I got the Alicia Keys issue, I thought it might have something to do with my new Black Expressions membership (which I really enjoy).

Yesterday, I got the Kelis, Pink, etc. issue from a month ago with the form letter. I, too, thought this might be a target mailing to sororities.

I agree - the only rose among the thorns, mixed in with the typos and the outdated information (like Brandy being engaged) was the article about the racist fraternity incidents at Auburn and Ole Miss.

Overall, Honey is bad, very bad.

Yes, I got another issue yesterday with that letter about getting the magazine because I'm an AKA. I didn't ask for it and I don't want it! Why would they think we would want this mess?:mad:

One more question..... why type of deal was made to get ALL of our names and at what cost? I mean...... did AKA pay anything or what? What's really going on?

Actually the question is did AKA get paid ... and as I read over my message I realized that it can't be a list serve that sold us out because they do not have my address, I always skirt the address thing and put different digits .... so it has to be something related to AKA an they have to have had our addresses some how...oh well the saga continues

Knowing that I'm not a spring chicken - (but I ain't a old hen either) - I'm pretty sure my sorors (both younger and older) were much appalled as I. I was crazy enough to read about the sisters running after the basketball stars and what they would do to go to.................................I'll say no more - who wants to know about something like - making it sound like that a professional job and these are skills needed to get it!!!!!!!! :o
