Greek Art!

I actually did a search this time for a topic like this. I was surprised there wasn't one! I have something to share with all of you.

members.nbci.com/oathbound/art/mascotscolor.jpg

(sorry it's not a link. NBCI doesn't allow clicking on links to images.)

I hope all the A E Phi's, DZ's, KD's, and AGD's are happy. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif It's a drawing I did on the computer, of the mascots of all the sororities on my campus. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Hey KayDee--

You did that??? That's awesome!!! It was too cute.

KayDeeCareBear 06-13-2001 04:31 PM

Hee. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to make a turtle look even SLIGHTLY femanine? LoL. I actually like how the squirrel turned out the best, with the giraffe as a second... The Turtle and Bear were the first two I did, so they were kinda the experimental ones. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

How did I do it, newbie? Oh, boy. Quick technical explanation. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I have a drawing pen for the computer, so I can sketch directly onto it without using a mouse. I used a light grey color to do a "pencil" sketch, then I filled in the color. I shaded next, using the airbrush multiply tool, then I did highlights with the screen tool. Next, I added the detail work, and lastly, I outlined. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Sunglasses were done with a multiply tool set on low opacity. Of course, I gave the bear the cool army fatigue shirt. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif GO AROTC!! That's it, in a nutshell. Took one day for each of the figures. I also just realized I forgot the middle part on the Giraffe's tail! Oh, no!

I really like looking at art, though, b/c I used to take an Art History class http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. that's so amazing! And that's so sweet of you to share with us! Thanks!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey Frat, I would love to take credit for the art work but I cannot. These creations come from a gentlemen and Fraternity brother Micheal Allen. Let me show you what he has done for Alpha Phi Omega and Gamma Sigma Sigma:

KayDee- That is such an awesome drawing!!! I love the way the Squirrel came out, and she's grey too!! A lot of ppl forget that our mascot is the grey squirrel and not the big fat brown one!!! I love this drawing, I wish that we had one like that for recruitment!!

Wow, you Alpha Gams are so nice. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Here's what I'll do. When I'm done with the background I'm working on now, (one with some of my comic characters You want to see one of my favorites? Go here: members.nbci.com/oathbound/art/sidereal.gif) I will edit the squirrel out by herself for you all. And I see UMgirl is from Michigan. Great to see another poster from Michigan here. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I had absolutely no idea that your mascot was the grey squirrel, so it worked out well. Ours is the brown teddy bear, and I didn't want another brown-furred one, so I did grey instead. How cool. Anyhow, I'll post the edited squirrel here when I can.

Katey Alpha Gam 06-23-2001 01:14 PM

Thank you so much for doing that for us KayDee, that is so nice of you!!! You are from U of M? I work for UofM but I go to Eastern. It's so cool to hear from people from UofM on here! I actually like UofM so much more than Eastern, but Eastern has a better Ed program, so there I stay!

KayDeeCareBear 06-23-2001 04:45 PM

Naw, I go to Wayne State. I almost went to Concordia Ann Arbor, which, I believe, is CLOSE to U of M. I think. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, I'll have that pic done in a couple weeks, most likely. I took off from work next week, and that's where I have photoshop. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Katey Alpha Gam 06-25-2001 02:02 PM

That's so cool that you are from Wayne. Before I decided to stay at EMU, I was looking at the sororities at Wayne and I was very very interested in KD. I even was e-mailing your former president for a bit. From what I know of your sorority and how helpful and nice your sisters in your chapter were for me, you have an excellent group and an amazing chapter!!!

KayDeeCareBear 06-25-2001 04:03 PM

Of course, I have to say I wouldn't trade my sisters for any other. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks, Katey. I'm glad that KD made you feel welcome, even before you were there. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Did you know at the time that there was an AGD chapter there, too? They're really nice, but I NEVER see 'em! It's weird, it's like, the ghost sorority! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Katey Alpha Gam 06-26-2001 11:16 AM

They're still there. I have met them at International Reunion Day and one of my sisters are friends with some of them. It's weird, I was under the impression they had a pretty big presence on campus???

UMgirl 06-27-2001 12:08 AM

I gotta back katey up on this. The AGD's at Wayne State helped with our rush and initiation and we got the impression that they were a well know and one of the big houses at Wayne. I dunno http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

KayDeeCareBear 06-27-2001 01:59 AM

Nonono. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif No, the Alpha Gams are very much still at WSU. It's just that I never see them. They are really great people, but, I just never seem to see them at the Greek Tables in the student center during normal times. They actually are the biggest sorority on our campus, with forty- - - some. Yah. I was just wondering if you knew about the AGD chapter there when you were looking into Kappa Delta?

NEUsweetie 06-27-2001 08:25 PM

Wow, am I the only one who though it was terribly tacky!

KayDeeCareBear 06-27-2001 10:12 PM

Thank you for your input, NEUsweetie. I actually encourage negative critisism, but see, your comment helped me very little. It wasn't constructive at all. can you expand on the tacky comment, maybe? It might just help, next time I draw something.

Anyway, I'd also like to make another point. Will you, as a Once-in-a-while poster, introduce yourself next time before you make a comment like that? It's only polite, after all.

[This message has been edited by KayDeeCareBear (edited June 27, 2001).]

Katey Alpha Gam 06-29-2001 12:14 AM

NEU-I don't think the way you said that was very nice at all. KayDee worked hard on that and it's good to get constructive criticism but CONSTRUCTIVE is the key word. That was just a lot of negativity just being thrown at her, not at all nice or helpful! KayDee-I didn't know very much at all about the chapter there when I was talking to them other than that they were one of the sororities on campus. I didn't know very much about my chapter at the time! It was the beginning of my freshman year and I really wanted to go to Wayne and I really wanted to be greek, so I went and looked at what sororities were there and I looked at the philanthropies and the type of things they exemplified and I looked at their nat'l sites and in putting it all together, I really really liked KD. I don't know what it was that had me not looking at AGD, but I really wanted to go KD. I even made up a little song b/c I was so excited that I was gonna be a KD when I went to Wayne. But then a lot of things changed in my life and I had to/decided to stay at Eastern. But in the long run I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I am VERY happy to be an AGD!!

KayDeeCareBear 07-03-2001 02:21 AM

Just letting you AGD's know... I haven't forgotten about you. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I started working on the squirrel today!

KayDeeCareBear 07-05-2001 09:44 PM

Naw... I started out with sorority colors. (IE, the turtle.) As it turns out, three of the four sororities on our campus have green as their primary color. design wise, that would have been very difficult to accomplish, because of the varying colors of the animals. So after the turtle, I used my imagination. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Wine&Blue 07-05-2001 10:36 PM

That's awesome KayDee! Except for the whole green jello thing (which kind of freaks me out http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif) I'm with Tom... I wish I had a talent like yours.
