LXA is also traditionally know as the Lamb Chops, Lamb Chop Shop, etc.... I'm not sure where the name comes from (I'm sure it's a joke regarding the word lamb, but I won't go there...)

APES.

Phi Kappa Sigma got the nickname of Skulls from the wearing of silver skull badges during the Civil War so the brothers in the North and South could recognize and avoid shooting each other.

wow, my school doesn't have any nicknames like that, though each house does have a particular reputation. i guess it's kind of the same thing but it would be considered rude to use a nickname like the ones listed above. not that some aren't funny . . .

My guess is that LXA is called Lamb Chops because it kind of fits the letters:
LAMBda CHi ---> LAMB CHops

I've also heard various nicknames for SAE and Sig Eps, such as Sigma Alpha Everyone or Sigma Pledge Everyone. I've also heard them called Sigma Phi HairSalon or Sigma Alpha HairSalon (I guess it depends on if the particular chapter is considered "preppy" on their campus).

My house, Sigma Tau Gamma, was sometimes called "Super Tough Guys." I'm not sure if it's meant to be derogatory or not. It probably is. I also heard of another nickname that we were called back before I joined, but I don't want to print it here because it was a racist nickname that made a reference to the ethnicity of our house.

Hey all, what are some nicknames your chapter has around campus? I know almost every fraternity has a nickname for the other ones on campus. Don't post any bad ones that might offend anyone.

AFAIK, our nickname on campus is the flies, as opposed to the chops or choppers. I've heard it was because of how dirty our house used to be and always had flies around. At my school we had 6 sororities and around 16 fraternities. My fraternity had bad and good nicknames. The bad ones werent true and I wont repeat. The good ones I guess were "rich guys", "preppy", "athletes". As far as sororities we called the gamma phi betas, "gumbies", why I have no idea. All of the other sorority names I wont repeat. I remember some of my brothers called kappa sig, "kappa shmeg", which we hung out with a lot and I had a few friends with. Sigma chi, 'the storks'. Sigma Nu, "Sigma Nerd".
Sig Ep, "sigma phi em all", and the Axps were crows. I've heard the same thing about Tke also. We never had Tri delt or KAO at my school.

I mean, Sammy, Skulls, these are ok, but the listing of derogatory names that are given are not only perpetuating them, but introducing them to people who may never have heard them before, thus, assuring their continuation. These aren't the nicest, and I didn't create them, just repeating them. I think we all need to remember the ability to laugh at ourselves. I have listed my fraternity's sometimes nickname below, even though I don't like it, I can laugh at myself. On my campus the names go as follows:

ATO - A T Zero (because they lost a lot of members a few years ago, and they NEVER hang out together on campus- no visibility)

Sigma Phi Epsilon - Shmeg Ep

Lambda Chi - or Lambada Che Alfeeah, how international students call them when they arent sure of the pronounc., other orgs picked it up, or Lambda Cry, because they contested the rules at Greek Week every year.

TKE - TICK (TKE pronounced phonetically)

Sigma Tau Gamma - Sig Taaaaaaau (was pronounced in an asian accent, because they all were engeneering students, an a large % were international students)

FIJI's - JIFI's (someone keeps rearranging their letters on campus to spell JIFI)

Phi Delts - Phi Dorka Theta (complete dorks)

Sigma Nu - Sigma Who? They had about 4 members before they were closed


Sigma Kappa - Snakey K's -(Snake appears on their coat of arms)

Phi Mu- Phi Mooooooo (Their girls arent really big, but nothing gets under a girls skin like a moooo)

A O Pi - A O on my Thigh (Had a rep for being the wild girls)

I can't believe some of you people! In a time when public opinion isn't exactly pro greek, we should all be standing together, not putting each other down. How will anybody not in the greek system take you seriously on your campus, if you're calling each other "ho's" "cows" and "pigs?" I completely agree w/ sigmagrrl, that this is not positive for anybody anywhere.

Now, I have no problem with positive names that go with letter's such as AXP -> crows, and Lamb Chops, and I've personally wondered how Skulls got their name, but most of them are rude and some of them are down right racist. I'm glad to see that bigotry is still one of the many traditions that some of your chapters hold onto.

Sentience, how can you degrade a chapter that is so successful, it has 200 men? It seems to me that they are doing something very right. And for all of you that have heard or used "If you can't go Greek, go TeKE," I'll fill you in on the history of that.

When TKE was founded a little more than 100 years ago, we were the first fraternity that did not limit their membership based upon race, creed, or social status, while every other house in existence either did by their actions, or by explicitly stating that in their Nat'l constitutions. So yes, when you're house turned somebody away because they were Black, or Jewish, or poor, or anything else that wasn't just like you, we would take them based only on their character and personal worth. So please continue to use that saying and remind everybody that while your chapter discriminates, TKE holds the same beliefs as the founders of this country, that all men are created equal.

As everyone knows, Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT) is (or perhaps once was - I'm not sure) a predominately Jewish Fraternity. Well, at the University of Illinois, their (extremely phat!) house was populated by gentlemen who had serious money, Porsches, etc., etc.

Thus, their nickname was Zillions, Billions, and Trillions (as in dollar$).
