Downloading Music
With the collapse of Napster--- where is everyone going to get their music?
I am trying to put togehter a compilation CD for a party in a few weeks and ... HELP! :) Amy |
Try Limewire :)
|
KaZaa, WinMX, Morpheus, Audio Galaxy - all are great programs.
Don't use Bear Share - its got security holes like you wouldn't believe, and people could end up downloading stuff you didn't intend for them to. |
My two favorites are
Limewire and Gnotella!!!! |
winmx and morpheus...you can get pretty much anything off either one.
|
I've used AudioGalaxy, BearShare, and Morpehus.
I like Morpheus the best because I can download other stuff...like movies...TV shows...things like that. |
I like Audiogalaxy, but I haven't tried some of the others.. I knew they were others out there somewhere...
|
Kazaa, Morpheus, and Grokster are being sued
so watch out |
Winmx is great! I havent had a problem with it at all and its very similar to napster.
I tried Audio Galaxy before i had a bad experience because sometimes it wouldnt load, or i couldnt download a certain song, blah blah blah  Definitely check winmx out! |
thanks everyone!
winmx is working the best of those suggested for me. :) Amy |
BOO-HISS!!!!
DOWN WITH NAPSTER!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I get mine from friends...lol.
|
i use morpheus and i like it a lot :)
|
I use Morpheus too. It's almost identical to Kazaa but I find Morpheus to be fast and it usually has more of the songs I want.
|
Morpheus... hands down I think is the best music/video retrieval software I've ever used. It really makes Napster look inferior.

I tried using Morpheus before i got winmx and i dont know what i was doing wrong but the site i went to didnt have anything to download music with  they were selling shirts, and the site in itself looked freaky!
I would still like to download it though because i didnt know you could download music and tv shows!!! what is the link? just www.morpheus.com ?? |
I currently use KaZaA.
|
Okay, this may sound like a dumb question, BUT do you have to buy a shirt to get a membership at morphius??
|
I've had the same problem at morpheus, bucutie and I can't figure it out either!
|
Nope,
"Morphius" (who has the www.morpheus.com domain name) is just a record company. They've built something a tad misleading I think -- just out to make a quick buck. Go to www.musiccity.com to get the Morpheus file swapping thing. Also you can find lots of other programs if you browse at www.download.com |

Ok, now I am kinda angry! I went to use Morpheus today and it said something like "your version is too old to connect, go to musiccity.com to download the new software." So, I did, but I hate the new Morpheus set up!!! Anyone else have this problem?
|
I love audiogalaxy.com you don't even have to really wait for the songs , you put them on your list and then it will download it for you, so all you do is pick the songs. You can find the songs right away with no hassle! it's the greatest!
DGP~Honey~ |
try kazaa! it's the same set up as the old morpheus... just look up kazaa on google.com and it'll give you the site : D
|
Just a word of caution: Most of these programs also install other "spyware" programs on your machine. Their intent is to record the types of websites that you browse, etc... then sale the information (also selling your email address and such).
Fortunately there is a program called "adaware" that can get rid of these for you. Just search for it on www.download.com. |
Napster is actually going to be coming back. But I don't know how well it's going to do considering they are going to charge a fee to use the service.

As I understand it the Gnutella network actually would be impossible to shut down since there's no central point that everyone connects through... So as far as I know, there'll always be that. |
|
You cannot download from Morpheus anymore without paying.
I not sure what's point of joining groups on Audio Galaxy. I don't really it. ;) |
**Bump**
Hey guys...
I was using Kazaa on my computer at work. Unfortunately "Big Brother" at the university has demanded that anybody with a computer connected to the university server has to uninstall it :( So here I am, a Kazaa junkie with nothing to listen to. Is there ANYTHING out there I can use? Anything. Or am I just out of luck? |
This thread is a bit old and since these things are changing all the time...
Can someone recommend a good site for music, etc? |

The probably-not-so-legal outlets . . . well, bearshare still technically works, although there are problems with 'flooding' of sample tracks, partials and etc by some artists. Others may have better programs available, but you're probably just looking for 'something that works' at this point . . . ETA: also, if you're not on the pandora wagon (www.pandora.com), you should be - you have approximately zero chance of downloading, but the exposure to new/weird things is incredible. |
|
I second the shareza, but its a resource hog....depending on what you are using it for....I've actually had better luck with Limewire....LOVE IT
|
i use both limewire (i paid for pro) and shareaza - one at work & one at home
i prefer limewire because it's faster, but shareaza gets the job done, too. |
