Recruitment Counselors
I just wanted to toot my own horn a little bit, and say that I was just selected as recruitment counselor! I am so excited, along with one of my sisters who was also selected. 30 girls applied, and there are only 14 RCs. I logged in under an alias, and after posting my story here on GC, I will reveal myself (bet you all can't wait, huh?!) So here's waiting till August. In the mean time, I hope that others announce when they become RCs.

Congrats! :) Being a Rho Chi is an amazing experience!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say that I'm also going to be a Rho Chi next fall, and I'm a little nervous about the whole disaffiliation process. I can't wait to come back to school next August and meet my rush group, though. I'm one of 30 Rho Chi's, and two of my sisters are Rho Chi's with me, as well as one Panhel Exec member, so I won't be all alone! :) I'll live in a hotel with all of the other Rho Chi's for the ten days of school before Bid Day next fall, so I promise to post my stories and fill you all in on what happens. I'm looking forward to it! Any former Rho Chi's with stories to share or advice? I'd love to hear it!!

I've known some Rho Chi's -- as far as the few I've known they absolutely loved their experiences! Hope ya'll do also!

I'm so glad that people have been responding! Along these lines, I know at my school, each recruitment counselor group has a theme. My group when I went through was "Beauty Queens" and we wore sashes saying "Miss Alabama" or whatever state on them, and we also wore little tiaras all through rush. Do any other schools do this? I'm not even sure if we are going to this year or not, but does anyone have any cutesy ideas?

congratulations to all the rho chis! (or recruitment counselors if Rho Chi is taboo at your campus!)

Odd question- what should one do about her posts on GC revealing their affiliation? Even if a new PG (Rho Gamma) makes a new GC nic, a PNM could still she her old posts which may reveal her name, school & affiliation. For example My school & GLO are easily available as well as my not-so-common name. If I were to be chosen as a Rho Gamm how can I keep a PNM from reading my old posts? If I edited my profile & sig would it change all my posts ever? Maybe I'm making it harder than it needs to be, but if I'm not then we may have a quandry...

Good question, Heidi. What I would probably do is create a new handle with an anonymous profile, that doesn't mention geographic location, school, GLO affiliation, etc.
Then I would take my *alter*-handle and delete my profile and signature in my user-cp. That would remove it from all former posts. After that, I'm guessing it would just be a matter of going through your old posts and edit any that may have your personal information on it. I imagine that would be a ton of work, though! I'm so glad I wasn't on GC when I was a Rho-Chi or Panhellenic President! :p |
If you change your info in your profile, you can change it back and it will change back everywhere, I think. I changed my sig and it changed on my old posts too, so I would assume the reverse is true.

Rush groups
Someone on here said they have group themes for recruitment (though it's always gonna be rush for me ;))? At my school we didn't do themes, but we all learned cutesy little songs that we'd sing and pass the time between rounds. Of course we'd have competitions between the groups and it was tons of fun. Do other schools sing songs or do fun things like that?

I'm a recruitment counselor!! Go me! You all know who I am, but you'll have to wait a long time before you find out for sure. Happy rushing!!

I was wondering. Do any of you have your Recruitment Counselors in the recruitment rooms or are they outside?
|
We were never allowed in the rooms where recruitment was actually taking place.. We had a seperate room to be in. I don't know if that answers your question or not.. I come from a small school..

Just a quick question...why is the term "Rho Chi" no longer appropriate? For that matter, what's wrong with "rush"? I'm sure there's an answer out there somewhere, but I figured someone else would know faster than it would take me to weed through all the threads!

at my school we now call our old rho chi's/recruitment counselors, sigma rho chi's, which stand for sorority recruitment counselor... rho chi is an honorary pharmacological fraternity, i think i got that right, hehe... :D
well congratulations to all you rho gam's, rho chi's (if you still use that), sigma rho chi's, whatever you prefer. i'm sure you will do a wonderful job and encourage tons of quality women to participate in the joys of sisterhood we all know and love so much... although i would love to be able to encourage so many young women that way, i just can't help but be too selfish to spend an entire semester disassociated from my sistas... (we have deferred rush so it would be for a whole semester !!!! :D :D :D |
Corina - there is also a pharmacy honors society called Rho Chi. The two things have co-existed for years, but just lately the pharmacy people decided to make a stink about it.
Re rush - well supposedly that is politically incorrect - so it was changed to "recruitment" which sounds even worse to me (reminds me of either the military or Hare Krishnas). But hey, whatever tickles your pickle. |
This week our Panhellenic Council is holding a Disaffiliation Dinner for us - Recruitment Counselors and Panhellenic Exec members, that is. We have a little ritual where we officially disaffiliate, and from then until the beginning of September we won't wear our letters on our shirts, cars, keychains, anything. I'm wondering what in the world I'll wear this summer - sorority tee shirts make up about 2/3 of my summer wardrobe! ;) I was wondering if anyone had tips for being a good Rho Chi, though. My Recruitment Counselor wasn't the greatest and I was wondering what activities your Rho Chi did or what qualities she possessed that made Recruitment easier for you. Or, if your rush wasn't a positive one, what could your Rho Chi have done to help you?

Congrats!
Congratulations to all the new recruitment counselors...I was a recruitment counselor for 2 years and absolutely loved it...I met some of the greatest friends through this...we all bonded through this experience.
If anyone has any questions feel free to message me! Kirsten |
Now that we're getting closer to recruitment time, I thought I'd bump this thread up so everyone could contribute their tips for Recruitment Counselors. What is the best/worst thing your Rho Chi did for you?
Also, I'd love to hear other Rho Chi's stories - our rush doesn't get started for a week or two and I'm already excited!! |
I'm going to be a Recruitment Counseler this year too! We have a retreat a week from today, Monday and then we dissafilate the next day. I am so excited!

Congrats to all new PXs! It's such an important job. I love seeing your signatures with all the letters! That's adorable.
We had two PXs with my group, one was really committed and the other one not so much. The best thing the good one did was try to eradicate any gossip and disscussions between parties. Each day she brough a list of questions for us to answer between parties. The questions were totally off-topic but fun to answer so my group got into it. She had a theme for each day, I think the first theme was summer activities, what we did during the summer, and especially what had been our favorite summer activity when we were little. Then there was TV day, what we watched when we were little, which re-runs were our favorites and so on. The last day, Preference, she changed things up a bit and asked us what we were grateful for in our lives. This was really in keeping with the serious tone of the parties but kept us from being too nervous. Unfortunately the other PX was not so committed to her job. The worst thing she did was choose favorites. There were certain women with whom she developed a definite rapport. This had pretty terrible results. These women somehow got the idea that the PX had the power to insure bids with the chapters they wanted. This was not the truth. When things did not work out in the way they envisioned they felt betrayed by the PX. Things smoothed out eventually but it definitely ruined their friendships with each other. So, that's my good and bad PX stories, I hope they're of some help. Good luck again with this job, it's such a wonderful Panhellenic service, congratulations and thanks. |
:D I am sooooo excited! Tuesday we had our final recruitment counselor meeting before rush! We went over all last minute details, and got a chance to talk to our partners and roomates for the week about stuff. We move into a hotel on Sunday, and then that night we have Information Night. I'm finishing up all my girls accessories and nametags and stuff today and tomorrow. I absolutely cannot wait for Sunday, the week is going to be so much fun! Any other pi chis/ gamma chis/sigma rho chis/recruitment counselors out there that are excited as me?
