2015 Purdue University Sorority Recruitment starts this weekend!
Purdue University formal recruitment starts tomorrow!
A total of 974 PNMs have registered for recruitment; which I believe is an increase from last year. Here are the rounds: Aug 28 & 29 Open House: Visit all 17 sororities Aug 30 First Invitational: Visit a maximum of 13 sororities Sept 5 Second Invitational: Visit a maximum of 8 sororities. Sept 6 Preference: Visit a maximum of 3 sororities. Sept 7 Bid Night! Interesting tidbit: Gamma Chis are not disaffiliating from their chapters for the first time this year. The Gamma Chis told the PNMs what house they belong to when they met their PNMs. Does anyone else know of this being done at other universities and why? |

I love hearing @ Midwestern recruitment! Anyone have rec girls to follow?
Eta: must not have read my last issue of The Angelos, where it said KD is colonizing this fall at Purdue! |
I have a rec girl I am following at Purdue......but don't know how much info I will get. :)
We are pretty low key in the Midwest and at Purdue. LOL Yes! Best of luck to KD in colonizing this year!!!! |
I have always loved the Greek system at Purdue. When I was in college, I was fortunate to attend two Greek Leadership conferences there and it was a lot of fun. Everyone was super friendlyl.
|
Whoohoo!
Go Big Ten!!!!! (I admit it, I had to look to see whether Purdue had Chi O.) |

I'd like to know NPC's take on it.

Yea, me too, RE: Gamma Chi's not being open about affiliation: I could see it going either way. In some cases it could really help break down stereotypes, i.e., "YOU are an XYZ? Hmmm...cute, active, friendly, smart...maybe I need to re-think the tent talk". On the other hand, one poorly chosen Gamma Chi could cause issues.
I was a "Rush Counselor" back in the day, and we were supposed to be unaffiliated and went into the process anonymously, but we were unsophisticated back in the Pleistocene era and there were always party pics, scrapbook pics, etc that were inadvertently left out/open to view, so by round 2, it was an open secret who we were. I will be interested to hear how this goes. Good Luck to all at Purdue! |

IDK how I would have felt knowing those affiliations. I hated one of my Rho Chi's houses, so in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't know at the time. I liked my Rho Chi, though. I'm also curious about the rationale behind the program. |
Purdue is one of those schools that does not seem to have the numbers to support extension, yet they did a stacked one. KD is the second leg of the stack (AOII already came on). I hope it goes well.
|
Doesn't everyone know their Rho Gam affiliations anyway? There is just too much social media to hide it.

Purdue is also likely going to move the Open House round to the Union next year with each house having a room.....I don't want to be an old alum but I don't like this idea! :( |

Yes, we have Chi O, very strong chapter!!! |

Why that would be tried at Purdue, I don't know. Somebody thinks it will be easier for the busy rounds? |
My DD is home getting ready to start her last recruitment tonight. Her take on these issues. The feeling on the Gamma Chi's is like DeltaBetaBaby said. It is too hard to keep affiliations a secret. Gamma Chi's don't have to sneak back to their houses or ignore sisters on campus during recruitment.
Recruiting in the Union next year--AOPI does not have a house and when it is built it is going to be nowhere near any other Greek housing. Who knows a time frame and location for a future KD house. Recruiting in the Union would cut down busing time between the Acres, Campus, and AOPi/KD locations. Twenty minutes is the time allowed for busing between rounds. That time added to party time makes for a long two days. She also is mentioning that this also makes the PNM look at the sisters and not the physical house/locations/lack of AC, etc. Boiler up! |

The NE corner of Harrison and Grant, two blocks south of Krannert/Union. Demolition of existing building has not started.
Closest Greeks--Phi Delts (3-4 blocks) or the frats on Littleton(6+ blocks). Zeta/Pi Phi are 7-8 blocks away. Edit to add: 236 Harrison Street |

My brother lived in apartments that were by the Sigma Chi house (this was when Drew Brees was there :) ). |

We had also heard the intramural field possibility.
As a townie (Not really, I grew up in Indy but have been here long enough to feel that way) I hate to see Purdue take over the blocks between University and Intramural. It would hugely expand campus but where are all of those Greeks and students to go? West Lafayette has ordinances that make it difficult for the students to live off campus and there is so little unoccupied land available. Those blocks are a nice buffer between academic buildings and student housing. |

At the graduation ceremony I attended in May, he started talking about "political correctness" in a sarcastic voice, and some baby started screaming its head off. I pretty much agreed.

DD update. 974 registered. 853 went through first round. Right now that is 50 per chapter with quota last year of 37. KD really didn't table or have much presence on campus last year especially compared to what AOPi did for their recolonization.
On the other side of town it sprinkled off and on this afternoon and the good old humidity has returned to provide the PNMs with either limp hair or the frizzies! |
Wow, over 100 dropped from registering to completing first round. That seems like a lot.
Update from a PNM: the day was brutal due to no time for lunch. When her group had a lunch break, the dining halls were closed. It was tough to take along snacks. But she is in great spirits and loved all of the houses. She just needs FOOD! |
How much does it cost to register?
|
I was thinking it was $50 but I am not entirely sure.
|
I have to post and say hello because I see some familiar names here - IndianaSigKap and cinder1965 that were so kind to me last year during Indiana University's rush. Hope you both are well! God help me, but I have another daughter participating in recruitment this year, but at Purdue. Cinder it was $55 to participate in recruitment and registration did not close until the Monday before. My middle daughter's experience has been night and day different from her sister's at IU and although she is a bit stressed she is enjoying it. I can't wait for it to be over though.
Thankfully, it will be several more years before I have another daughter in college! |

I am doing well but a bit stressed out over rush at Purdue this year...a girl who is very special to me is going through this year. YIKES! So I will be as anxious as you this year for bid results! This time next week, it will be OVER. Until then, wine and  |
Good thing Lafayette is having an obnoxious heatwave just in time for the invitational rounds!
