Wet Hot American Recruitment: Three Bama Stories
I'd like to say that I'm running out of themes, but I really, really love Wet Hot American Summer.
This year, I had three fantastic ladies going through recruitment at Alabama! Now that they're all happily celebrating with their new sisters, I can share their stories. Here are the 16 chapters (not including ADX or SDT in this because they do not take part in formal recruitment), named after characters from Wet Hot American Summer: Beth Henry Coop Katie McKinley JJ Gary Andy Gene Gail Victor Neil Susie Ben Abby Lindsay I didn't make any of the chapters Arty The Beekeeper Solomon or the Can of Vegetables, and I think that shows remarkable restraint on my part. Time to call out your votes! I'll be back with the updates. |
Yaaaaassssss!!!!!
Going with Andy....because Paul Rudd. |
Go Lindsay!!!
|
Ok, settling in for one of my favorite storytellers!
|
This is excellent! Victor Pulak, all the way!

Rounds 1 and 2
Round 1 is boring because all of the girls liked all of the houses.
A did say that she really liked Lindsay and Coop, but she didn't dislike any of the chapters. B and C both said they really liked Andy, Gail, and Susie, but they didn't dislike any of the chapters. I know. Boring. ROUND TWO A was invited back to: Henry Lindsay JJ Coop Ben Gene McKinley Beth Victor Gail Gary B was invited back to: Katie Susie Ben Gail Victor Neil Abby C was invited back to: Andy McKinley Victor Neil Katie Susie At this point, the girls have several houses in common. All three girls are returning to: Victor Both A and B are returning to: Ben and Gail Both B and C are returning to: Katie, Susie, and Neil Both A and C are returning to: McKinley |
Round 2 Thoughts
A absolutely loved:
Lindsay Coop Ben Victor A also liked: McKinley Beth Gail Gary A didn't feel as much of a connection at JJ, Henry, or Gene. B absolutely loved: Gail Susie Victor B really liked the other houses, too! Katie Ben Neil Abby C is absolutely head over heels in love with: Andy C also loved: Victor Susie C really liked the other houses, too! McKinley Neil Katie |
Round 3 Invites
I'm speeding through this one a bit.
For the third round, the girls were really pleased with their invites! A was invited back to: Lindsay Coop Ben McKinley Beth Victor Gail Gary B was invited back to: Gail Susie Victor Neil Katie C was invited back to: Andy Susie Neil Katie Even at this point, the girls have a couple of houses in common. A and B are both returning to: Victor and Gail. B and C are both returning to: Susie, Neil, and Katie. |
Love dgdramadawg stories! Excited to find out where they ended up!

Round 3 Thoughts
During Round 3, the girls had to start thinking about where they hoped to pref, so I'll set this post up that way.
A had 8 houses for round 3, and she definitely split them between a top 4 and a bottom 4, though she still felt that she'd be happy with any of them. A HOPED TO PREF: Lindsay, Coop, and Ben Behind that, she listed them: Victor, McKinley, Beth, Gail, Gary B had 5 houses for round 3, and she felt confident that she had a top 2 but was unsure about the next 3. B HOPED TO PREF: Gail, Susie, and Victor Behind that, she listed them: Neil and Katie C had 4 houses for round 3, and she was still totally in love with Andy, so it was really just a question of which two she wanted to pref alongside Andy. C HOPED TO PREF: Andy, Susie, and Katie Behind that, she listed: Neil |
I hope C gets Andy!

Pref Invites
A was invited to her top 3 for prefs!
Lindsay Coop Ben She was excited to determine which one she loved most! B was invited to her top 2 for prefs! Gail Susie She was kind of bummed not to have three, but she was glad that both of her favorites invited her back. C was invited to her top 2 for prefs! Andy Susie She was, like B, kind of bummed not to have three, but she was so excited to have her top houses. |
I can only hope that most PNMs at Bama had such great results...finding favorites early on and getting to stay with most of them throughout recruitment. Again, I think a lot of this has to do with going where you feel most comfortable. I have not heard the word "tier" anywhere in this story.
And all of those new houses and additions on this campus are absolutely amazing!!! |
Love this story!!! And good for the attitude B and C ... it only takes one at the end, right??
Crossing my fingers that they love where they end up. :) |
PREFS
A honestly loved all of her prefs, and it really came down to splitting hairs to determine where she felt most at home.
1. Lindsay 2. Coop 3. Ben B had a hard time making a decision because she connected so much with the girls who connected with her at both chapters. At the end of the day, based on her experiences throughout recruitment, Gail had the edge. 1. Gail 2. Susie C was in love with Andy from day 1, and while Susie put up a fight with a great pref, there was just no contest. 1. Andy 2. Susie |
Ooh, can't wait to hear the outcome.

A is now a proud new member of...
LINDSAY... also known as... DELTA DELTA DELTA! |
Congrats to Lindsay!!! Don't hold out on us on B and C!!
|
B is now a proud new member of...
GAIL... also known as... ALPHA OMICRON PI! |
C is now a proud new member of...
ANDY... also known as... KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA! |
They all got their first choice - great for them!
|
Omg! I knew there was a reason I liked Andy....besides Paul Rudd! Congrats to all three!
|
Such great results for your girls! Can you at least provide their pref choices?

Coop- Kappa Delta Ben- Chi Omega Susie- Gamma Phi Beta Victor, where B wanted to pref but honestly was her #3 choice, was Delta Gamma. Katie, where C wanted to pref but was honestly her #3 choice, was Kappa Alpha Theta. |
Great story, as always.
Even better that A, B, and C all got their first choices! |

"Why do so many of your girls get their first choices?" Because they really do go into recruitment looking for the best fit, regardless of "tier." Obviously, there is no guarantee. But you're way more likely to be happy with your bid if this is your attitude than if it's not. "Why don't any of them drop out or get released?" Some of them do drop out. And some of them do get released. It happens. And it sucks. A lot. So I don't write about it here. But they all end up finding happy homes with other campus organizations if they don't find homes through sorority recruitment. |
I remember one of your stories where someone dropped out. But yeah, going in with an open mind is #1.
|
Congrats to all three on a successful recruitment.
