Texas 2015
I haven't seen a thread for UT this year. I'm just wondering if anyone knows about SDT and if they're doing formal recruitment again.
|
I believe SDT is participating in formal recruitment at UT. It's listed in the UT Panhellenic book as one of the chapters.

Let's get it out here now -- be warned about these 3 parties:
Dance Party (Open House days) Piggyback Party (Day before Pref) Glitter Party (Pref night) |
Lol ChioLu..should I get my popcorn ready?;)
SDT has participated in all rounds the last 3 years. Most likely they will again this year if they are in the Panhellenic Guide. |

In my heart of hearts, I wish whole groups of PNMs would refuse to do this and leave the actives dancing alone on the floor, looking like idiots. |

Okay, I've heard about the dance party and piggyback thing, what's the glitter party?

There is/was a chapter that throws glitter on the PNM's that they want as they are leaving the pref party. The glitter is VERY hard to get off. This PNM is now "marked" so that the other chapters that she is attending for pref know "where" she is "probably" going on bid day. They were asked to stop doing this by PanHellenic but Im not sure if they did..it's another chapter with deep pockets who are willing to pay the fines and move on:rolleyes:
The Piggy Back house actually Piggy Backs girls out of the house that they want. It is obviously very hurtful to the girls who are not piggy backed out. |
Well that piggyback thing is just plain weird. And awkward.
|
What is wrong with Texas? I'd be so embarrassed if my GLO did any of this. Those houses would go directly to the bottom of my list even if I knew I was their number one PNM. Next time I'm perusing job applications and see a U of T GLO member, you can be sure I'm going to make sure that they aren't part of THOSE houses.
|
So, these are 3 separate houses?

Even if the glitter house was my dream home I'd hate being covered in glitter. That sounds more like a punishment. Glitter is so hard to get rid of.
|
SDT is participating in formal recruitment. Though they're doing something different numbers wise to help minimize... issues on both sides.

It's truly unfair to girls who maybe want to go elsewhere. |
I think I would be sending that chapter my dry cleaning bill to get the damn glitter out of my clothes.
|
I wonder if girls who visit the piggy-back house after being glittered then spread the sparkles to the piggy-back-ride-giving actives. Glitter spread all over campus like an infectious disease (potential idea for epidemiologists).
Seems like the prospect of glitter-flinging and piggy-back rides would necessitate some rush wardrobe and accessory considerations -- like bermuda shorts and goggles. I guess PNMs groan if the glitter house is listed first on the day's line up of parties. |
I believe that the glitter event happens either at prefs or the day before.
|
The piggyback happens the day before Pref. (Think that's Entertainment Day.)
Glitter is on Pref night. So if you go to ABC & get glittered, you're marked like a dog marks a fire hydrant. Is it known by the PNMs that they will get glittered at ABC? Not sure what a PNM's reaction should be if you get glittered and really want the 2nd house you pref. |
Isn't it said that glitter is the STD of the crafting world?
|
I hope they do this outside, or at the least not on the carpet.
Do the PNMS know/understand the glitter? I'd be pretty annoyed if I was a PNM and covered in a dust of glitter. |
If someone threw glitter on me, I'd be livid. I don't care if a former first lady or two are alums, I'd still be livid.

"Yes. And they threw glitter on me. The last time that happened I was 6 and getting a Fairy Princess make-over at Disney World." |

Have we ever read a post from Texas PNM's to whom this has occured? What was their reaction (or are those to whom this occurs sworn to secrecy)?
|
Ok, I know about the dance party and the piggy backs but glitter was new to me.
|
There was "glitter" talk at a House several years ago. Don't know if that has continued or not. One year, I believe, a blue drink was served at pref turning the pnm's who visited that House, tongues blue. There is always some rumor from some group.
I may not have my facts right but it is my understanding that every House will have a National representative on site to make sure Panhellenic rules are followed this year and it is their duty to report their own chapter. I got this information 3rd hand so am not for sure if I have it right or that too is a rumor. I think next Tuesday is Convocation so let the games begin. |
Just Interested... I really hope you are right about Nationals being at each chapter! I'll be in Austin next weekend, so I can find out firsthand!

Maybe that will help keep them in line.
|
I heard that the national reps have been there for the past 2 years. Not sure if that's true.
|
I think for some chapters, yes. What I understand is that what makes this different is they will be charged with reporting their own chapter's violations to Panhellenic which is a first instead of chapter members of other chapters (Rho Chi, panhellenic members) I think there has been a backlash so this is an attempt to stop it.
|
My understanding is that the National representatives from each NPC group will not be at their own house. They will be "working" recruitment at different houses. Visiting, observing, making sure party times and other panhellenic recruitment rules are adhered to. This is not first hand info, so I could have it wrong. Open House is tomorrow, so we'll know soon enough!

Don't forget to check out utaustinsfl on instagram...the door chants from last year were fun to see and hopefully they will be posting all week

I'm sorry someone copied your post and put it on another site, but that happens. Sometimes you're better off saying nothing if you don't want what you're about to type to be out there forever. |

Thanks! Piggyback Party and Glitter Party sound interesting too. |
