Other GLO's have this on their boards, so I wanted to start it!!!!!
Answer the question, then type one of your own!!! #1 Who were the 10 founders of Phi Sigma Sigma? |
can i cheat and use my refelctions maual...just kidding...
i'll start off... lillian gordon alpern ethel gordon kraus ------------------------ meghan gamma pi |
I'll continue...
Lillian Gordon Alpern Josephine ellison Breakstone fay chertkoff estelle melnick cole Jeannette Lipka furst ethel gordon kraus shirley cohen laufer claire wunder mcardle rose sher seidman gwen zaliels snyder i admit, I cheated for jeannette.. (i knew it was a j and f but my mind went blank) Question #2 What year did Phi Sigma Sigma join NPC? |
I always get this one wrong... is it 51? For some reason either 51 or 57 sticks in my mind!!!!
Heres my personal fav: Why do we have an alpha and an alpha alpha chapter? <3Alison |
1951 is correct...I won't answer your question though even though i know it, since everyone should get a chance....
|
okay...alpha was our first chapter founded by the ladies at hunter college...alpha alpha is the chapter letters for the 24th (?) chapter chartered...this is just a guess!!!!
but here's my question... what year was the phi sigma sigma foundation formed??? keep them coming ladies!!! :) ______________ meghan gamma pi |
Phisig QT your answer is not totally correct...when Hunter College's campus divided, one part remained alpha and the division became alpha alpha(the whole story is in reflections)
actually the first doube letter guard was beta alpha (we didn't start with alpha when we started over) |
wow! i was unaware that hunters campus divided! but i guessed so... my question is still up for grabs!!!
_____________ meghan gamma pi |
I'm guessing 1956...but I'm not sure.....
|
I think the foundation was started in 1969, which would make it a year after (1968) Hunters campus split into Hunter, on Park Ave, and Herbert Lehman in the Bronx- both part of the City Univeristy of NY system :) Both inactive!
Does anyone know if Hunter or Lehman have greeks? Someone else can have the next question!!!!!!! |
okay...
what is the name of our national magazine and what year was it introduced? :) |
I know its called The Sphinx.... however, when it was formed is escaping me at this time.
|
The Sphinx was introduced in 1922 :)
(Yea MOC knowledge!) What is our oldest active chapter, and where is it located? <3Alison |
the delta chapter 1920...at SUNY buffalo
heres the next one...what is our newest chapter and where is it located! :) |
Unless there have been more since LTS:
Gamma Iota - Dominguez Hills is the campus, is it University of CA? I know its in California! :) I met women from their chapter, theyre really cool!!! Whats special bond do two of our founders have? <3Alison |
Oh Yeah BaBy!!
Oh yes... The newest chapter is Iota Gamma, at California State University Dominguez Hills!!! Founding Vice-Archon right here. We were installed March 24, 2001. Almost 1 year!!!!
The special bond is that Lilian Gordon Alpern and Ethel Gordon Kraus were sisters. Question: Who is the oldest living member of Phi Sig? |
The oldest living Phi Sig is Dorothy Labowe, Z, 27.....the article was in the last issue of the Sphinx.
Question: what chapter was recently recolonized? |
is it syracuse? don'tknow why but i remember reading that somewhere!
in the spirit of Miss USA tonight... what chapter is Miss Florida from? :) |
Syracuse is right!! Pi chapter! yay! I visted there when they were still colonizing! It was cool :)
<3Alison PS I have no clue where Miss FL usa is from!! |
Miss Florida, shannon ford, is from delta kappa (i think that's florida international)...but she didn't even make it to the top 12 (i swear it's the red hair)
ok, i have another question (yes i too was MOC) what year did foundation select the NKF as its cause and why? |
not sure about this question but...heres another interesting one...
why is the shpinx our symbol??? |
Are you Stumped?
If you all give up on my question just let me know and I'll give the answer...you should at least know the year since it's in reflections.
(I believe it someone like Esther Graves or Linda Beavin that told me the reason we chose NKF) |
i was stumped! and my question about the sphinx is stillup for grabs!!! :)
|
okay, okay...here's the answer to my question....even though foundation was formed in 69 it wasn't til 71 that they chose the NKF. they chose it because, surprisingly, kidney disease was a leading cause of death in women at that time. I remember going to convention and seeing the guest speaker from teh NKF...she suffered from kidney disease (i think she got a transplant though). it was shocking to see how young she was (she was prolly mid twenties!).
I don't want to be a hog, so I'll leave your question for someone else.....maybe they're all too busy to check the message boards |
I always thought the reason the Sphinx was our symbol was a secret.
Who is the current Grand Archon? What chapter is she from? |
grand archon: josette george...
i am not sure what chapter she is from though! |
Josette is from the Beta Xi chapter, unfortunately it is closed.
|
hey,
i think we stalled this for a bit. I think the sphinx answer is not secret since it is in reflections, but maybe we will keep it to ourselves. new question: what year did Phi Sigma Sigma become international and at what school? |
Phi Sig!
1930
Upsilon Chapter University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. Question: What was the Dean's name that helped the 10 founders start Phi Sigma Sigma?? |
Not sure who the dean was so I will let someone else try.
Here is a question for you guys . . . Who was the youngest founding sister and what age did she enter college????? :D |
For some reason Im thinking something like Dean Higgenbottom... or something... maybe its my dumb mind!
|
ok....
This is gonna sound dumb... But I gave my new Sapphire Sister my reflections book, so I can't even tell you what the answer is!! But I think that you're correct.
|
the answer to the previous questionis (i think) jeannette lipka furst and she was 14 (?)when she entered Hunter college...she graduated at age 18.
question: what year did Phi Sig start expansion with the beta and gamma chapters being installed? |
ok, so this thread seems to have died out again....
well the answer to my question is 1918! Someone else can start the next question :) |
New Question!
Alright! How many active chapters does Phi Sigma Sigma have??? :D
LITP~Beth |
I do believe that there are 118 chapters of Phi Sig at this moment in time. Next question.....
OK next question...... this is pretty easy... but describe both the regular and jeweled versions of our badge. |
Badge
The traditional badge is a Sphinx head with eyes of Sapphire, set on the greek letters PSS.
I'm not really sure how to describe the jeweled badge. But I know there is a pyramid with sapphires. What are the 4 responsibilities of membership? |
Answer:
To Self, Chapter, Campus/Community, and National.
I just wrote that on a note card for my sapphire sister last night!! Question: Who was the Grand Archon before Josette George? |
The Grand Archon before Josette was Chris Senseney....
ok here's an easy one....when is convention, what is its theme, and are you going to be there?!!! |
i am not sure when convention is but i do know where!!! it is in washington d.c. (45 minutes from me!!!) i unfortunately won't be there...but some of my other sisters will be... :)
