Lance Bass to go into Space...

I just saw it on E! and it definetly aggravates me. Check out the news story.

As someone who went to space camp, and knows about the procedure it kinda bothers me that people can just go up to the Space Station and not be of any help... I suppose he might be able to actually draw some interest to the space program but it really chaps my ass that he will be the youngest person ever put up. He's paying 20 million for the trip on a Russian Soyuz capsule. It's the same company that sent Dennis Tito up. Anyway just had to vent about how gay I think it is.

ZTAngel 02-21-2002 01:50 AM

I heard that on the radio today and thought it was a joke at first. I nearly laughed my butt off when I realized it was true. I agree...that is absolutely ridiculous that they're putting him up into space!

SATX*APhi 02-21-2002 03:43 AM

I think this is just ludicrous!

After thinking about a little longer, I realized, "Hey, if I had the money to go into outter space, I definitely would do it." C'mon. It may be a little silly, but I think that we may think it is silly at first because we may be a little jealous that he actually has the opportunity to go into space!

I wish I could go out into space. It is an experience a mere few are able to experience. He has the money to do it; congrats to him!

The1calledTKE 02-21-2002 09:40 AM

Least it would be the Russians taking him up and not the US. Russia will take anyone to space for the right price.

SigmaChiCard 02-21-2002 11:03 AM

is this guy one of the pop-band guys I presume?

AlphaGam1019 02-21-2002 11:06 AM

Yeah, he's in N'Stink.

Yea, and god forbid he were to donate even a portion of that money to a charity or something. No way Jose, forget the starving children, or the homeless, I want to go into space, YAY, not.

Guess the right amount of money can make anything happen. I think that allowing "joe regular" into space isn't the best idea anyone's had recently. How much training is he actually gonna get?

pirate00 02-21-2002 01:21 PM

Re-frigggin-diculous

Space travel is a big deal, and for now should be experienced by those who deserve it and can truly appreciate the experience, it shouldn't just go to the highest bidder!!. Lance's money could've been spent on more wortwhile causes (Cancer research, AIDS research, Make-A-Wish, March of Dimes, Sept. 11th fund, etc...), however, this bubble-gum pop singer blows it on his own self-serving interests. He gets a big thumbs down from me.

lifesaver 02-21-2002 01:43 PM

As Jen said before. Space is exactly where this kid belongs. Deep Space. Very Deep Space. Maybe MTV would do a "Space Cribs." lol. Lance could even do research on Black Holes. That way he'll know where his carrear will be in about 10 years. He might even bump into MC Hammer. hahah.

But it's not like he's the first incredibly rich person to self-indulge rather than give to others. If I recall correctly, our space program considered it, but then decided against it. So the Russians feel differently....so what? He is giving to a cause, he's giving their space program tons of money whereas adding an extra person to an already planned trip definitely would not cost $20 Million. True he could give it to poor kids, but as long as he gives it to a good cause, I think it's okay. I feel safe to say that Space Exploration is a good cause and that money he gave will see benefits in the program. I mean, he could just buy 10 more homes and get another MTv documentary on that...but why?

So I say have fun Lance while advancing the interests of the world.

That is a truly great idea. :) LOL

Kevlar281 02-21-2002 08:21 PM

If MTV refers to him in any way shape or form as a “Hero”, I have full intentions on kicking my TV in.

Hey, I actually dig some O-Town! ;) And let up on NSync. Their purpose is obviously entertainment, which they are succeding at as shown by their record and ticket sales. I don't think we would look to NSYNC for any deep lyrics or life altering messages. But hey, I'll pay anyone who can help tapping their foot or singing a lot to some of their songs. :)

As for the origincal topic, SigmaChiCard already said what I intented to say. But Kevlar, I second your thoughts as well.

GreekLetterGirl 02-22-2002 01:58 AM

Oh lord what next

You have got to be kiding me!!! THAT IS THE SILLIEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD!!! There are so many other things this guy could do with his money rather than be selfish.... lord some people

indeed, i mean, what was i thinking? Why give it to worthier causes when he can give it to space programs with existing enormous budgets.

LOL, Brookline, you took the words right out of my mouth!
I hope he goes up in space and stays there.

I agree with you too Greeklettergirl. It disgusts me to no end....and no, I don't see the space program as being on par with the American Cancer Society or AMFAR. Doesn't cut the cake in my book....and his "donation" to the space program is not exactly an altruistic action - he's doing it for himself.

AOX81 02-22-2002 11:01 AM

Me and my husband call N'Sync the Spice Boys :)

SigmaChiCard 02-22-2002 11:12 PM

But he could be like most every other artist alive, and keep it for an even greedier cause as I've said...buying a couple more cars and/or houses. Don't confuse the fact....I don't care for him...hell, I'd not even be sure which band he's in had I not been told, but I do think that his actions are more scruntinized than your average artist because he's part of the new-pop genre. That's just my take though.

Cory

ps. that's funny you call them that, cause that's what I typically call them too. But then I also call bands like Creed and that new-rock genre the backstreet boys of rock!

I guess I did not think of it like that; I can see what you are saying. All well, you can never please anyone. But I do think giving the money to charity would be more beneficial.
