Bumping this back to the top where it belongs - above the negativity! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

At Greek Games every year, we always cheer for Delta Sigma Phi, of course when they're not against us! Out of all the houses on campus, I probably know more of them, even though we're on campus, and they're actually in town. Also, we like to say we don't care who wins, as long as they're wearing green!
We also let Chi Omega use our cart, which is homemade, and like 30 years old. seriously, there are pics from Greek Games past with the same cart, dating back at least to the 70's. So, we always cheer for our cart to win http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif BTW our driver this year, swear to God, his name is Jeff Gordon, and he looks like Beavis http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Steve Corbin Lambda Chi Alpha Theta Kappa Chapter Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech. |

Hopefully, my sorority and the others (ALL OF THE OTHER ONES, NOT JUST NPC) are going to coordinate events during Women's Herstory Month. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Greeks helping Greeks
Rather than bashing other GLO's'::clears throat::, I'd rather discuss how some of us have helped out each other.
I'll start things off, for our Greek Sing, we were doing a Road Trip theme, and we were going to do the dance scene at the fraternity house. Us being whiteboys (all the ones with flava were busy), we got some of the AZD Dance majors to help us out with our practices. They volunteered to practice with us even though they had their own show to practice for. The show really couldnt have happened without them. While we didn't win, the show looked sharp, and we gave them flowers to express our thanks. And if anyone wants to see pics, it should be under the 2000 Greek Sing pictures on our gallery at www.tke.muomega.org Anyone else got a good story? |
Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Phi Alpha helped us out with our Step Show for Greek Week each year when I was in school. We had a great time and it was awesome to hear them cheering for us when we got on stage! I had the best time learning from them. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

We helped Phi Mu set up there State day at Nicholls last year......

That and we coach all ther sports teams, but normally we just do community service around town............Good topic fellow frater...

Well, this may seem kinda minor, but this happened during Greek Week. We had some indoor game competitions, like table soccer, pool, and table tennis. Well, DZ totally and completely beats us in everything except table tennis where my sis, Teryn, MERCIED her DZ opponent. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Anyway, Table tennis was the last event, and I was waiting for Jen, so we were the last two KD's there that were parked in this one parking structure, and we were on different floors. So we were talking about what we were gonna do, because our campus is in the heart of a big city, you don't want to get caught alone at night, and this Delta Zeta says "Well, I'll walk with you to my truck, then I'll drive you to your cars." It was pretty cool, and even a small gesture of kindness like that really made me proud that we had a chapter of Delta Zeta on our campus. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

All of our sororities and fraternities are very involved with each other. Everyone particpates in Greek Week, we get all excited! We were with Pikes, Sigma Nu and Phi Sig, we were fabulous! All the sororites participate in reMEmber week, where we honor two girls who were murdered and other victims of violent crimes against women. All the major fraternities have sporting events that bring the sororities together to compete against each other. We finished the year off with Pike Softball and Lambda Chi Vollyball. Each sorority has a sporting event that supports their philanthropy, ours is Frats on the Fairway to support CASA. I love all our events, it brings the Greeks on campus together and shows to the rest of the campus who we are and what we stand for.

During Greek week we weren't doing so hot with some of the events. Tug of War is HUGE at my school, (people practice starting in January!). Well, we won the first two pulls and were in the final pull against a certain sorority, who on our campus is a little of a rival with us. EVERY fraternity and sorority except them and one fraternity were cheering with us. The entire place erupted with A-G-D over top. It was so loud!! It actually brought tears to me eyes to see all those people cheering for my sisters. It must have worked, though, because we won!!! We didn't even have to go to time because they full pulled them!
This is a huge deal at my campus because every fraternity and sorority are so competitive that they never unite for anything! ------------------ "...and love her for her womanhood." |
This past year one of our women found out that she had Lupus. It hit right at home because many of the women in our chapter (including myself) has had a family member or friend afflicted with the same disease. So...our chapter decided to have a "fundraiser" so that we could donate money to a Lupus Foundation. We included all of the other sororities and fraternities and over a four week period, each sorority/fraternity raised money and which ever raised the most money at the end, we cooked them a spagetti dinner w/ desert. It ends up that we raised over $2,200 (there are only 7 fraternities and 3 sororities at my school). It was really nice to know that they cared.

Damn, how great it is to read this!
I am a firm beleiver in competition among the Greeks, but it is good to know that the Greeks also help each other in time of need as that is really what we all are! Brothers and Sisters who have the same love and caring for what we beleive in! Greeks while different are still one in the same. ------------------ Tom Earp LX Z#1 Pittsburg State U. (Kansas) |

Cheap trick to put my post to the top of the page and to get the critical "on fire" graphic.
Oh I guess I should say something on topic. It's nice to see alot of positives out there. Esp you alpha gams, you should get a chapter at GMU! ------------------ ------------------ No funny squiggles, just bold letters: TKE |
I'm in a business fraternity (Pi Sigma Epsilon) and we always have fundraisers for various reasons (philanthropy or to go to Nationals/regionals). We are an almost permanent fixture in the lobby of this one building because we always have a table set up there for a bakesale, tshirt sale, etc. I notice that most of our "customers" are other Greeks! we overhear people (independents) sometimes commenting how greeks are always raising money for something, but they make it sound like we're jjust money grubbers and it doesnt go to like any good cause, which of course upsets us coz that's not true at all. We had a tshirt sale project and it was a huge one because my chapter invested a lot of money for this so that we could send a lot of people to National convention and in addition to table selling and personal selling, some Greeks (Sammies,TKE,TriSig,SAE) allowed us to attend part of a chapter meeting to show off the shirts and take orders from their members. It boosted sales a whole LOT. And of course, we are waayy grateful. ------------------ "To supress our feelings only makes them stronger"--from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon |

bump... Let's hear some more positive things!
|
A few years ago the University of Alabama expanded the football stadium. Unfortunately they expanded it right over the Pi Phi and AKA houses. Several houses on campus helped us while we were "homeless" by cooking meals for us and generally helping us manage without a house for that first year. I know several houses helped out, but for some reason KKG sticks in my mind.

When I started my Local, I had help form SX, PKA, STG, Tke, and PSE(PSK) now! I have respect for ALL GREEK ORGS. We are all different, but all the same!
We are trying to do good for not only our F/S but for the school and community! If you do not beleive that then Jump off of the edge! OTW, I am being nice now! ------------------ Tom Earp LX Z#1 Pittsburg State U. (Kansas) |
We always cross-rushed a lot of the same girls as one of the other sororities on my campus and had a big rivalry with them, probably because we were so similar and had friends in common. Well one night, one of my sisters and her fiance were in a car wreck. He was killed and our sister was very badly injured. Our "rivals" were the first ones to send us flowers and offer to do anything they could for us. Every time they, or any other sorority, made me a little nuts in subsequent years I thought about that. You may be scrapping with each other on the surface but when it comes down to it, you are all in a big family and you're there for each other.

Well, I have a Chi O story. My chapter was installed in November and throughout out our selection process, colonization, and installation Chi O supported us more than any other group.
They always put banners up and sent cards to congratulate us. They are a shining example on our campus and we hope to be on their level soon! Chi O showed us what we will be working toward to be great at ECU! |
