Favorite Open Motto

OK, so we've talked about favorite badges and coat of arms, but what about favorite open motto?? Whats your personal fave?

I like Zeta's "Seek the Noblest"and KD's "Strive for that which is beautiful, honorable, and highest.". (I am not quite sure if I got KD's totally right.:p  )
I also love ADPi's:D "We Live for Each Other."

FuzzieAlum 02-15-2002 05:05 PM

Is there any place where we can see a list of them?

As far as I know, AXD doesn't have an open motto. Of course we have our symphony, but it's not a short statement like those. We adapted "Inspiring Women to Realize Their Potential," but I believe that's more of a marketing slogan.

SATX*APhi 02-15-2002 05:09 PM

I like ours, A-Phi's. ,

"Union hand in hand."

:)

RockChalk 02-15-2002 05:29 PM

I like Sigma Kappa's - "One Heart, One Way"

Peaches-n-Cream 02-15-2002 05:48 PM

Delta Phi Epsilon's open motto is "Esse Quam Videri": "to be rather than to seem to be."

ZTAngel 02-15-2002 05:52 PM

I'm a bit partial to ZTA's "Seek the Noblest".
But, I also like KD's.

Thetagurl 02-15-2002 06:20 PM

One of theta is "why walk when you can fly", that was always my favorite

HeavenslilAngel 02-15-2002 06:30 PM

My fav open motto

ASA's is a good one too "Every Member Makes A Difference"

You almost got it! Kappa Delta's open motto is "Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest," which is translated from Ta Kala Diokomen. My favorite open motto would have to be Delta Gamma's "Do Good," because it can apply to everything one does, and it's a great motto for life in general.

dgbibo 02-15-2002 08:26 PM

we have a national one that talks about leaders and all but my chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Illinois State Unversity says "Loved and Hated but Never Ignored" and that pretty much sums it up!

Optimist Prime 02-15-2002 08:29 PM

we don't have an open motto per se, as opposed to a closed one. But we do have a maxim to get motivated for stuff, "alma mater first, and theta chi for alma mater" It gets us up and moving, but we don't feel so bad if we can't always live up to it.

FuzzieAlum 02-15-2002 08:50 PM

I thought "helping hand" was Theta Chi's open motto?

that is our only motto. :) its what theta chi stands for.

kristiAZD 02-15-2002 11:31 PM

I always saw "Inspiring Women to Realize Their Potential" as our open motto, though I can see it being used as a marketing slogan too (though what are we selling??). That's why I put it as my signature.

The Sig Eps at my school use the loved/hated slogan, but they say it, "Loved OR Hated But Never Ignored.":)

fuzzie 02-16-2002 01:44 AM

Actually, Alpha Xi Delta's open motto is:
"The Pen is Mighter Than the Sword."
It is on our national website in the insignia section :)

TriSigmaTX 02-16-2002 11:22 AM

Of course I'm partial to my own:
Sigma Sigma Sigma's Open Motto "Faithful Unto Death" That just says it all for me as a Tri Sigma.
:)

tridgirl 02-16-2002 12:58 PM

I am a lil partial to my own, "Let us steadfastly love one eachother", but I also likd DZ's.

SigKapSweetie 02-16-2002 01:26 PM

It may be cheating, but I really do like our open motto the best. "One heart, one way" means a lot to me, and it helps me try and see eye to eye with everyone, not just sisters, because the world will be a better place when we all live one heart, one way!:D

Beryana 02-16-2002 01:50 PM

Of the open mottos, I like Kappa Beta Gamma's - "Character, Culture, and Courage"

PhiMuLady150 02-16-2002 01:53 PM

A LITTLE PARTIAL BUT...

I like Phi Mu's "Love, Honor, Truth"

pirate00 02-16-2002 03:31 PM

I'm partial to Alpha Phi Omega's motto. Simply stated: "Be a leader, be a friend, be of service."

Yes fuzzie, I had forgotten about that!! I just posted about that in the badge thread a few days ago, you'd think I would have remebered!! I must say that I do like that one the best because I am in favor of brains over braun. I think it speaks volumes about how we should be acting and what is really important in this day and age.

Good job, fuzzie!:D

33girl 02-16-2002 06:18 PM

My own, of course! "Aspire, Seek, Attain." (Leigh Ann - I think "every member.." is our positioning statement or something like that.)

aephi alum 02-17-2002 10:52 AM

AEPhi's open motto is "Multa Corda, Una Causa" - "Many Hearts, One Purpose." My favorite ;)

KSig RC 02-17-2002 01:44 PM

I guess I'll bandwagon here - Kappa Sigma's open motto is "Bononia Docet" - Bologna teaches . . . much more personally significant to every brother than most open mottos, and most likely not applicable to others but hey I like it.

KarenC725 02-17-2002 02:55 PM

Partial to mine (Zeta) and my mother's (Phi Mu)

lyrelyre 02-17-2002 05:18 PM

I love mine (AXO): Together let us seek the heights

Katey Alpha Gam 02-17-2002 11:08 PM

My faves are ZTA's and Tri-Delt!!!

gamma_girl52 02-18-2002 08:35 AM

I'm Partial Too, But...

I love my sorority's open motto:

"Unity In Service"

Gamma Sigma Sigma:
Celebrating 50 Years of Service~1952-2002

SoExited@FSU 02-18-2002 02:42 PM

AXO

"Together let us seek the heights..." Yeah, AXO! :)

deltaphi94 02-19-2002 01:46 AM

Phi Mu

I like Phi Mu's "Love, Honor, Truth"

Our open motto is "Les Soeurs Fideles."
"Love, Honor, Truth" is from the Creed, but definitely something equally as important.
:)

Sweetums 02-19-2002 02:26 AM

Delta Gamma - Do Good!

Betarulz! 02-19-2002 01:13 PM

I can't really think of an open motto for Beta other than "Men of Principle" but we do have a poem that I know my chapter holds dearly.
The Bridge Builder

An Old man going a lone highway
Came in the evening cold and gray
To a chasm vast, both deep and wide
the old man crossed in the twilight dim
The swollen stream was naught to him
But he stopped when safe on the farther side
and built a bridge to span the tide

"Old man," said a pilgrim near,
"You are wasting your strength in labor here,
Your journey will end with the closing day,
You never again will pass this way
You've crossed the chasm both deep and wide,
Why build you this bridge at eventide?"
"Good friend, in the path I have come," he said,
"There followeth, after me today
A youth whose feet must pass this way
This chasm which has been naught to me,
to that young man may a pitfall be,
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim
Good friend, I am building this bridge for him."

teke643 02-19-2002 03:12 PM

Ours is "Not for wealth, rank, or honor. But for peronal worth and character." Our principles are love, charity and esteem.

LexiKD 02-19-2002 06:43 PM

KD: Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest

SSS: Faithful unto Death

I love them both!

AOX81 02-20-2002 11:45 AM

Thetagurl 02-20-2002 11:00 PM

Sigmachicard
Hey never thought of it that way I guess it could be for a drug commercial :). That slogan is always on our rush shirts every year and the rushees always remember it. Yeah Louisville, KY I just graduated in Dec and moved make home to Louisville.

KappaStargirl 02-20-2002 11:09 PM

all my best guy friends in college were Phi Kappa Taus:

"The Force of Many, the Power of One."

Salience 02-21-2002 12:58 AM
