Favorite Open Motto
OK, so we've talked about favorite badges and coat of arms, but what about favorite open motto?? Whats your personal fave?
I like Zeta's "Seek the Noblest"and KD's "Strive for that which is beautiful, honorable, and highest.". (I am not quite sure if I got KD's totally right.:p  ) I also love ADPi's:D "We Live for Each Other." |
Is there any place where we can see a list of them?
As far as I know, AXD doesn't have an open motto. Of course we have our symphony, but it's not a short statement like those. We adapted "Inspiring Women to Realize Their Potential," but I believe that's more of a marketing slogan. |
I like ours, A-Phi's. ,
"Union hand in hand." :) |
I like Sigma Kappa's - "One Heart, One Way"
|
Delta Phi Epsilon's open motto is "Esse Quam Videri": "to be rather than to seem to be."
|
I'm a bit partial to ZTA's "Seek the Noblest".
But, I also like KD's. |
One of theta is "why walk when you can fly", that was always my favorite
|
My fav open motto
ASA's is a good one too "Every Member Makes A Difference"

we have a national one that talks about leaders and all but my chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Illinois State Unversity says "Loved and Hated but Never Ignored" and that pretty much sums it up!
|
we don't have an open motto per se, as opposed to a closed one. But we do have a maxim to get motivated for stuff, "alma mater first, and theta chi for alma mater" It gets us up and moving, but we don't feel so bad if we can't always live up to it.
|
I thought "helping hand" was Theta Chi's open motto?

I always saw "Inspiring Women to Realize Their Potential" as our open motto, though I can see it being used as a marketing slogan too (though what are we selling??). That's why I put it as my signature.
The Sig Eps at my school use the loved/hated slogan, but they say it, "Loved OR Hated But Never Ignored.":) |
Actually, Alpha Xi Delta's open motto is:
"The Pen is Mighter Than the Sword." It is on our national website in the insignia section :) |
Of course I'm partial to my own:
Sigma Sigma Sigma's Open Motto "Faithful Unto Death" That just says it all for me as a Tri Sigma. :) |
I am a lil partial to my own, "Let us steadfastly love one eachother", but I also likd DZ's.
|
It may be cheating, but I really do like our open motto the best. "One heart, one way" means a lot to me, and it helps me try and see eye to eye with everyone, not just sisters, because the world will be a better place when we all live one heart, one way!:D
|
Of the open mottos, I like Kappa Beta Gamma's - "Character, Culture, and Courage"
|
A LITTLE PARTIAL BUT...
I like Phi Mu's "Love, Honor, Truth"
|
I'm partial to Alpha Phi Omega's motto. Simply stated: "Be a leader, be a friend, be of service."

Good job, fuzzie!:D |
My own, of course! "Aspire, Seek, Attain." (Leigh Ann - I think "every member.." is our positioning statement or something like that.)
|
AEPhi's open motto is "Multa Corda, Una Causa" - "Many Hearts, One Purpose." My favorite ;)
|
I guess I'll bandwagon here - Kappa Sigma's open motto is "Bononia Docet" - Bologna teaches . . . much more personally significant to every brother than most open mottos, and most likely not applicable to others but hey I like it.
|
Partial to mine (Zeta) and my mother's (Phi Mu)
|
I love mine (AXO): Together let us seek the heights
|
My faves are ZTA's and Tri-Delt!!!
|
I'm Partial Too, But...
I love my sorority's open motto:
"Unity In Service" Gamma Sigma Sigma: Celebrating 50 Years of Service~1952-2002 |
AXO
"Together let us seek the heights..." Yeah, AXO! :)
|
Phi Mu
I like Phi Mu's "Love, Honor, Truth"
Our open motto is "Les Soeurs Fideles." "Love, Honor, Truth" is from the Creed, but definitely something equally as important. :) |
Delta Gamma - Do Good!
|
I can't really think of an open motto for Beta other than "Men of Principle" but we do have a poem that I know my chapter holds dearly.
The Bridge Builder An Old man going a lone highway Came in the evening cold and gray To a chasm vast, both deep and wide the old man crossed in the twilight dim The swollen stream was naught to him But he stopped when safe on the farther side and built a bridge to span the tide "Old man," said a pilgrim near, "You are wasting your strength in labor here, Your journey will end with the closing day, You never again will pass this way You've crossed the chasm both deep and wide, Why build you this bridge at eventide?" "Good friend, in the path I have come," he said, "There followeth, after me today A youth whose feet must pass this way This chasm which has been naught to me, to that young man may a pitfall be, He, too, must cross in the twilight dim Good friend, I am building this bridge for him." |
Ours is "Not for wealth, rank, or honor. But for peronal worth and character." Our principles are love, charity and esteem.
|
KD: Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest
SSS: Faithful unto Death I love them both! |
Alpha Theta Chi
"Unity Within Diversity" |
