Funny sight on campus...

For those of you who are GC regulars, especially those who frequent the Rush forum, it's not uncommon to see a post where the author either is a) refering to sororities in general or b) trying to keep a sorority's identity anonymous. With that said, we often see posts calling chapters "ABC" or "XYZ." Right? Everyone following me here?

Today I went to campus to meet up with one of my old profesors to ask for a grad school recommendation. A girl walked past me with a sweatshirt which had, in big screen-printed letters, "XYZ". I'm pretty sure that was just the brand name of the company who made the sweatshirt, but I found the thought of an XYZ sorority to be very amusing. :) Just thought I'd share that. :)

......Kelly :)

Heh heh heh...I appreciate stuff like that.

My sister (who is 11) says that XYZ means "eXamine Your Zipper"...

Beta Alpha Sigma

A couple years ago there were this group of really snotty girls that did not want anything to do with the sororities on our campus so they formed their own little group and had shirts made. The shirts displayed the Greek letters of Beta Alpha Sigma on top and then underneath it said Bitches Against Sororities. How dumb is that?

Gamma Delta Iota

A group of unaffiliated guys on my campus had sweatshirts made with the Greek letters Gamma Delta Iota, to show that they were Gosh Darn Independents!! They were so funny to see.

I'm glad they were comfortable about being bitches...lol.

Well we just laughed at them because they were "Bitches Against Sororities" and they had Greek letters across their chests. Wearing sorority letters but being against sororities...hmmm, seems a little contradictory to me. I don't think they really thought that one through...

Either they're not around anymore or they have gained a little bit of intelligence and are not wearing the shirts anymore.

Believe me they were BITCHES!!

Once in class, I saw a guy wearing a Kappa Tappa Kegga shirt. I thought it was pretty funny. :)

There's a "non-greek" girl's organization on my campus called Beta Omega Beta, or BOB. I think they're a little strange, but whatever floats their boat. They supposedly do some kind of social activities, and are extremely anti-greek, and try to play up the kind of sarcastic name of their organization. Their "mascot" is also the pig...again, I'm sure, trying to make fun of greeks.

There's this one hilarious guy on my campus who has been seen sporting a sweatshirt bearing the letters Beta Alpha Delta, Alpha Sigma Sigma. I'm sure I don't need to explain that :) This guy is now pledging a fraternity.

The big thing on our campus used to be putting paper letters on your dorm window (the flip-up kind) so everyone could see them from the street. Someone got the brilliant idea to put up "Gamma Delta Iota" letters. It was funny, until about the three dozenth person did it.

Do you know which one?

I find it funny that people can be so Anti-Greek but yet put such a collective effort into expressing their views.

Phi Delta Llama

There was a group of kids at our school that tried to start an anti-fraternity, Phi Delta Llama. They used the Greek letters, and then a sillhouette of a llama. I guess instead of Lambda?! They never made shirts, just put up a bunch of fliers for an interest meeting.

Llama is geek speak for lame/lamer/newbie etc.

My personal favorite fake letters are still the guy in the background of one of the scenes in one of the Revenge Of The Nerds movies. You have to look closely, but the letters are "PPP," or as we Greeks would recognize, Rho, Rho, Rho (as in your boat).

Hey qtbecks,
A weird thing is that I think I know one of the girls in that -- you go to Truman, right? I went to high school with her, and she told me about BOB, but then she kinda quit being my friend / talking to me after I went greek. It was strange...

I've seen a funny shirt wandering around here at U. of KY, for the made-up frat Sigma Tau Delta, or STD. The back has a pic of a crab and says "You don't want what we've got"...a play on a frat's motto here.

qtbecks 02-18-2002 10:16 AM

Yup, I go to Truman...its the ONLY school in little ol' Kirksville. :) I kinda know one of the girls (I think that there's about 5 of them), and yeah, she was nice, but was a little stand off-ish to me when she saw me wear my letters shirt. She told me about her organization and what they believed in, and that it was basically anti-Greek.

At Truman right now, there is an english honors fraternity called Sigma Tau Delta. I was looking in a 1973 yearbook that my sorority owns (I don't know why we have one), and they called them STD...I guess it didn't mean the same thing as it does now.

I don't know if they're part of it ... but STD is an English honor society. I was part of it on my campus. Of course the name led to endless jokes. We has t-shirts made up that said "STD ... it's contagious!"

~Erin~AXiD~UK~ 02-18-2002 08:55 PM

hehe...i wonder if the STD people at my school know that it's a real frat...they certainly aren't part of it, though...they intentionally made it up to be STD

lilsnakeyk 02-19-2002 12:38 AM

This is slightly off topic....but it was still a funny sight no less.

Today, I saw a guy (to be perfectly honest kinda had a computer science major look about him) who had a t-shirt on that said
"Girls will never replace Sony Playstation 2"

and about an hour later, I saw a girl wearing a shirt that said
"Spank Me"

Now if that guy had seen that girl, he might have thought differently about the saying on his t-shirt. Just a thought!!!
