What do you collect?
I was wondering if you collect anything. If so, what? I collect a number of different things--and spend WAY too much money on my collections from time to time.
So, what do you collect? Why? If it is something unusual, where do you go to purchase whatever it is you collect? What lengths have you gone through to add to your collection? :) I did a search on this topic, but didn't find anything... |
My answer...
I collect:
-- Teddy Bears -- Limoges boxes -- Matryoshkas (Russian nesting dolls) -- State quarters (for my Dad, I give them all to him) -- Waterford crystal toasting flutes and ornaments I buy teddy bears all the time. Much too frequently in fact. There is a gift shop at CNN that I pass everyday, and I must confess to stopping there once a week to look at (and usually buy) bears. As for limoges, Alpha Phi has a series of hand-painted limoges that were designed by a University of Texas A-Phi. They are custom-made in France. Each piece is unique--and pricey! I've actually been to Limoges, France and bought a few pieces there. My collection isn't expanding as fast as I would like though! Matryoshkas--my first and true collecting passion. I've never been to Russia, so I've had a few friends pick me up some when they were there on various business trips. I had a Russian linguistics partner in college whose mother was kind enough to send me some too. My parents are friends with an astronaut who flew aboard the Mir Space Station, and the crown-jewel of my collection is a piece that he took up and back with him. Other than that, I scour import stores across the US (and elsewhere) looking for unique pieces. State quarters--since my heart isn't all in it, I just collect when I happen to get quarters in change. I give them all to my Dad when I do find them. Waterford crystal-- Probably self-explanatory. It's so beautiful! I collected all the millennium flutes and am working on those unique colored hocs. Every year I try to pick up one or two Waterford crystal ornaments as well. So how about you all? |
I collect shot glasses, cat and sunflower things
someday when I have a nice china cabinet I want to start collecting vases-specifically colorful glass blow vases-can't do this with cats running around the house and no china cabinet |
I too collect waterford crystal. I have all of the individual millenium toasting flutes. Hubby and I used the love one's for our wedding, and all the AOIIs should love the prosperity ones:D . I also collect the lismore pattern.
State quarters too, but my heart really isn't in it either. |
I collect:
Candles Pictures Receits (never know when you have to return something) |
Dust. (Badump-bump.)
No seriously, if I had to say I collect anything, it'd be makeup! I have way too much... Tech APhi - I looked on the bottom of a gravy boat I have and saw that it was "American Limoges." Is this anywhere near the same thing as THE Limoges? |
Holiday decorating items with a candy theme. Like candy hearts for our Valentine's decorations, candy corn for Halloween, and various Christmas candies for Christmas!

I collect Limoges boxes (I have 32 of them right now) and refrigerator magnets! I used to collect turtles, but they're mostly in a box in the attic now.
|
I don't like having a lot of clutter, so most of the things I collect I also can use:
When I was a kid, one of my mom's good friends was a missionary in Latin and South America, and he would bring home all kinds of coins from different countries. I have a small collection of foreign coins including those and some from when I finally got to travel abroad myself. I don't really keep up with it, just something I have as more of a memorabilia thing. I really like turtles, so I have quite a few turtle things (stuffed animals, jewelry, etc.) that friends have given me, but I don't really collect them. |
I collect:
~Lions ~Pictures ( I have an awesome scrapbook!!) ~and any other tidbits |
Ladybug anything.
I actually get more ladybug gifts, but I always keep my eyes open. In the last few years ladybugs have been everywhere! White rose anything as well! I have a whole wall in my house dedicted to them! |
I collect pennies, but not on purpose
|
CD's and shot glasses. My juinor year in highschool, my date's best friend's date said he collected salt shakers from restaurants. He stole them. I saw him about a year later at the movie theater. He was still dumb.
|
Butterflies- I love them and think they are so beautiful, but I will not ever get the real thing.. I think they are more beautiful in nature.
Shot Glasses- I don't buy them off ebay or anything, but only collect ones from special places I or my friends have been.. it makes it a little slower, but it they just mean more that way. Artwork- I go back and forth between different artist, but right now I am on a Yukie Adams kick.. she's a local northwest Indian artist who I have admired for years, and just recently got popular, so now all her stuff is so much more! (Last summer, I got to meet her and she is such a down to earth person!) I also have small pieces from local artist (mostly Native American). I just by stuff I like, not what's always popular. |
I collect ladybugs! They are my absolute favorite!
I also collect postcards. Whenever I travel I collect a postcard so that someday I can make a collage and have it framed. Generally I get 5 postcards from every place I visit just so I can narrow it down later. I also collect jewelry! LOL! I would love to own something in every birthstone. I need amethyst, emrald, peridot, opal, citrine and blue topaz. Hopefully Will will stumble upon this board and delight me with one of them in the future! ;) Hootie |
Beanie Kids but I'm obsessed with frogs and princess stuff.
|
A lot of different themes ... I spent too much money on stuff, so maybe I should decide which of my collections are worthed?
I think I will stick with these: - Hard Rock Cafe stuff: guitar pins - Coca Cola cans from all over the world You might think I'm crasy, but they all are different, as Chinese would issue a can with Chinese characters, and so would Japanese, Israel, Korea, India ... also different languages and sizes, types of cans: pull-tab, half size coke, Australian design, Mexican design with Aztec suns, etc. |
*Precious Moments
*Disney Movies *State Quarters |
queequek: Have you been to the The World of Coke in Atlanta? As a collector of Coke cans, you might really enjoy it. They have a fascinating display of cans and bottles from around the world--really interesting to see the variety!

I have 100+ squirrels. That collection began at the AGD convention in 1972. One of the favors was a brass squirrel (about 3" high). It was cast from a design by founder Emily H. Butterfield. I have squirrels made from glass, fabric, wood, ceramic, and even one made from a lump of coal!
I collect vintage household linens and redwork embroidery. I'm a quilter and I love all kinds of textiles. When I go to thrift shops I look for Greek-letter glassware and other GLO souvenirs. One of these days I'll take the plunge and start selling on eBay. (I have already figured out how to buy on eBay!) |
I collect pictures, picture frames and my favorite of all is all the ballet and ballerina stuff I have. I love dancing and I have these 2 awesome pictures of toe shoes hanging in my room. One which I had to wait 4 months for becuase it is a professional photographers picture.

I've collected Nutcrackers ever since I saw the production when I was about 5 or 6, so I've got some pretty cool ones that go up every Christmas now
|
Ack! How could I forget my favorite collectible! You know those pens that have water in then and like for New York it has a picture of the Empire State Building and when you turn it upside down King Kong climbs up it - I have about 10 now from different cities - San Fran - Miami - Boston, NYC, etc - but I was surprised to see how expensive they are! They are in the tackiest souvenier shops and they are like 8bucks a piece!
