Badge Day - 2015

My annual column - http://www.parispi.net/opinion/colum...b0c1e985b.html

"While it is true that this has resulted in Greek women being well represented in the halls of power on the local, state and national levels (e.g., Condoleeza Rice, Alpha Chi Omega; Elizabeth Dole, Delta Delta Delta; Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Pi Beta Phi; Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Alpha Epsilon Phi; and many others), it is ultimately just as important that women have these skills for every aspect of their lives, from running a household to running a PTA committee meeting."

NutBrnHair 02-23-2015 06:20 PM

Well-said!

Katmandu 02-23-2015 08:19 PM

Excellent! Thank you! Love badge day and hope all greek women no matter the organization will wear their badges, pins or letters proudly.

honeychile 02-24-2015 12:10 AM

Excellent as usual, Belle! I plan to go to a Panhellenic Fundraiser, followed by an Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association meeting!

TheMightyPen 02-24-2015 09:25 AM

Very excited to wear my commemorative 50th Convention pink gold Quill as a grateful member of Alpha Xi Delta!

ADPi95 02-24-2015 01:24 PM

I love Badge Day! I primarily work from home, but Badge Day is always on the one day I teach all day (college adjunct).

Elsinore 02-24-2015 07:50 PM

I'm excited to wear my badge this year! After Christmas, I ordered the dangles I qualified for over the years but never got, and I'm hoping they come in time to wear that day!

AZTheta 02-24-2015 08:37 PM

Enjoy your annual column and like to share it with friends - thank you so much for sharing it.

FSUZeta 02-24-2015 08:55 PM

Lovely! I am looking forward to Badge day this year.

aephi alum 02-28-2015 09:23 PM

I'm self-employed right now, but I'm tempted to wear a letter sweatshirt to my next Fairfield County Chorale rehearsal (we rehearse on Mondays). I may be laughed at, as I'm pushing 30 (I've pushed it nearly all the way to 40 lol), but my age doesn't make me any less an AEPhi. And who knows what business connections I may make simply because I'm Greek?

I'm in the final year of my 20s and I still wear letter frequently. You're an AEPhi for life - wear your letters with pride!

Xidelt 02-28-2015 11:05 PM

I'm excited that badge day and DPhiE founders day are both in March! More reasons to wear my badge this month!

sigmagirl2000 03-01-2015 10:04 AM

I'm going to be REALLY ANNOYED if my district has a snow day tomorrow and I can't wear a badge :(

catiebug 03-01-2015 10:18 AM

I'm in the Connecticut Choral Society (our rehearsals are also on Monday). I'll either wear my letters (I'm pushing 50 and I still wear them) or my badge.

One of the first time I wore my letters, our director asked if I was a Gamma Phi (I resisted the snarky reply as to why else I would be wearing letters). He told me that while an undergrad (either Drexel or Duquesne, I can't remember), he was a "Moon Man." Very cool!

I'm planning to share your article on my FB page today. Very well written.
I work from home, as well, and am NOT in badge attire but I will find a way to honor my fraternity tomorrow. I love my badge and all that stands for.

AZTheta 03-02-2015 09:44 AM

Wearing my Coat of Arms sweatshirt (huge honkin' COA, can't miss it) to the pool. The rest of the day I'll be wearing my badge holder necklace with a lovely badge in it. I wear that necklace a lot, actually.

sigmagirl2000 03-02-2015 09:45 AM

why does one wear a sweatshirt to the pool?

(I don't think I remember what a pool is - I was up at 5am to shovel again today)

AZTheta 03-02-2015 10:52 AM

I said TO not IN. It's cold outside. Sort of.

AGDAlum 03-02-2015 11:23 AM

I'm not in badge attire right now, but I will be. I plan to defy convention and wear my badge to P.E.O. this evening!

clemsongirl 03-02-2015 01:09 PM

I'm wearing my badge around campus today! We get credit towards a dress-down chapter if we do, but I would have worn it regardless:)

FSUZeta 03-02-2015 02:26 PM

I am home sick, but will wear my badge when I return to work.

DubaiSis 03-02-2015 03:10 PM

I'm wearing mine today! And actually I will likely be wearing it again tomorrow because I'm going straight from work to an Autism Speaks function. Don't wanna but sometimes I have to play my president role and attend meetings downtown, far away, inconvenient, etc.

Elsinore 03-02-2015 05:44 PM

Didn't get my dangles in in time to wear today, but wearing my badge all the same!

Whoa...and I thought that Phi Mu with all the dangles had a lot of dangles.

honeychile 03-02-2015 11:31 PM

I don't know if this will work or not, but this is Alpha Delta Pi's salute to Badge Day:

There's another one on Facebook, but I don't know how to share it to here. :(

Elsinore 03-02-2015 11:54 PM

Love that! Are you talking about the history of our pin video? Not sure if it will work, but trying this link https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v...nch_main_video

From looking at your chapter guard, my cousin's daughter who I adore is a new member of your chapter! Do you still live in the area?

Oh my gosh, small world!! I'm about an hour away, close enough to go help out on occasion. I was up there for Recruitment this year with a few other alums who were there during my time. All told, there were something like 17 Phi alums helping with Recruitment, from very recent to us "old guard" from the 90s. It was very cool to see, and I met some lovely ladies that weekend on top of catching up with old friends. They took a really nice Alpha class this year!

I just sent a message to the new member educator to get some information in order to buy a few gifts for her initiation. I didn't want to get her anything that was a traditional gift from the chapter or her big. So I hope the girl gets back to me quickly so I can order a few things. I was thinking a sweatshirt, a tee shirt and a few odds and ends.

It was on the Badge Day Facebook page. I had never seen anything like it. When I Googled "Sigma Gamma Rho pin", I couldn't find anything similar.

I actually found it interesting to see a lot of NPHC members with pins on that weren't their badges - instead, they were pins like the one I posted; larger letters, that in most cases, were blinged out. Is this a trend or tradition that I'm unaware of?

Titchou 03-03-2015 07:47 AM

I've got a rhinestone Delta Gamma one in Greek letters. Many of us have variations on it. Always thought everyone did that.

You can't go wrong with sweatshirts and tshirts. Lion things are also pretty popular. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that might be something to steer clear of would be a pin box or pin pillow. We used to get them for initiation when I was there, though that's been 20ish years . The crest is the only thing we can't have until after initiation, so things with our crest on it were commonly given as initiation gifts by the Chapter, Prides, or bigs. I'm pretty sure they still do an off campus banquet in town after initiation, and that's where at least some of the gifts used to be given. If they still do that, and depending how close you are, you might be able to arrange for your things to be given then/there; it would be a big surprise for her to find something from you there (again, if they still do the gifts at initiation banquet).

I wondered the same thing, I looked at the same page (and posted my picture there too)!

SWTXBelle 03-03-2015 03:26 PM

It is my understanding that NPHC groups have very specific and stringent rules regarding the wearing of their pins/badges.

Cheerio 03-03-2015 05:10 PM

Fairly disappointed I did not see any Greek Badges on campus this Monday. :( Last year I only saw one.

However, many students wore their letters yesterday (and will be doing so all week). Some carried Greek Lilly items or sported Greek stickers on their laptops/book covers.

And a quick walk near campus at lunch gave me a marvel at the somewhat 'hidden' quatrefoil designs around town!

(must remember to list new/different places to visit in my quest to see Greeks Wearing Their Badges on Badge Day 2016).

It just dawned on me that The Run was Jan 11, so in theory they should have initiated by this point, though I haven't seen anything on their FB yet. Not that it matters ultimately, but just realized initiation banquet will probably be a moot point.

Speaking for SGRho only, we are not allowed to wear our badges for non-official events though we can wear pins, broaches, etc.
