Strictly lip balm

I know there was a make-up thread but there were only a few lip balm entries. Sorry, decided to start a new thread.

I'm not a lipstick person but my lips get chapped easily so I have to put something on them. I loved softlips but its getting harder to find the flavor i liked plus, the boyfriend cannot stand the taste or smell of it. Kinda puts a kink in the nice good-night kiss.

So, any good lip balm recommendations?

SATX*APhi 02-05-2002 04:51 PM

I use chaptstick, either the Cherry flavored or the blue one. I only wear lipstick when going out or when I need to look presentable. ;)

Honeykiss1974 02-05-2002 04:55 PM

Avon makes great lip balm that comes in flavors that actually taste pretty good. I believe that are called Flavo-Savers????? (Someone PLEASE correct me if I am wrong!) They are only about $.99 and they have a hint of color that matches the slight flavor. My favorite is the Strawberry.

Also, prada has some good conditioning lip balm that doesn't have a "taste" to it as well.

KillarneyRose 02-05-2002 04:56 PM

I love Cherry Chapstick and Neutrogena's stick lip balm :)

amycat412 02-05-2002 07:33 PM

BLISTEX!!!!!!

:) I'm an addict.

PenguinTrax 02-05-2002 07:42 PM

I think best one, hands down, is Burt's Bees.

http://www.burtsbees.com

cash78mere 02-05-2002 08:06 PM

carmex--it's kinda stinky but works wonders!

volgirl2376 02-05-2002 09:39 PM

Burt's Bees is the best. Its all natural - and really relieves chapped lips without starting an addiction. It has peppermint oil in it among other things and gives a great tingle ;) I love the tingle!

AlphaGam1019 02-05-2002 10:24 PM

Burt's Bees!!!

Soft Lips in Mint!!

There is one that Banana Republic makes- it has an orange flavor, it's great too!

newbie 02-05-2002 10:36 PM

Try Smith's Rosebud Salve...it's nothing short of awesome. I also like plain ol' Vaseline petroleum jelly (in the jar).

KappaStargirl 02-05-2002 10:54 PM

thank you Tracy...

i am now into what I believe is my sixth week of being on Accutane, and I feel like I've tried every lip balm on the market. Favorites: Blistex medicated lip balm, which smells NASTY and does not have sunscreen but I use it when I'm at home and it works very well, and Chapstick Lip Moisturizer SPF 15. And of course anything made by Neutrogena is wonderful.

Ohhhh I NEED to try that stuff from Banana Republic, I am a BR addict! but I'm a BROKE BR addict so I haven't been there in quite some time.

KillarneyRose 02-05-2002 11:49 PM

KappaStarGirl: You're quite welcome; TOLD ya it's good! :)

Newbie: You mentioned Rosebud Salve once on another thread and I have been DYING to try it but I can't find it anywhere! The big irony is that you can get in California, yet I live in Maryland where the stuff is made and I can't!!!

G8Ralphaxi 02-06-2002 12:08 AM

Vaseline is better than everything. Very cheap too.

I started just putting some on right before I went to sleep every night and that solved almost every chapped lip problem I ever had. Rarely need chapstick. They also make a vaseline lip balm tube that is easier (and more socially acceptable :D) to carry around.

I was on Accutane a few years ago and I tried everything. Vaseline worked best.

If you want flavored or colored stuff though, try the little tubs made by Jane's - they sell it at Walmart. Also cheap!

(can anyone tell I'm broke???)

DGPhoney 02-06-2002 12:34 AM

oh my goodness, I totally love Lip Balm I can not go a day without lip balm, chapstick anything, I soo need it, I carry about 8 different kinds with me. But so far my favorite ones have been
Coco Butter Chap stick (Snoothness and softness)
Blistex :Medicated (for severly chaped lips)
Chap Stick: Lip Moisturizer (Conditioning and SPF 15)
These are my top three that work for mositure, protection and softness!
Hope that helps

i usually use plain old vaseline... keeps my lips silky smooth and very soft and its very inexpensive!

SparkliiQTMTSU 02-06-2002 01:18 AM

hmmm well theres two I like....Blistex majorly that stuff is just awesome!! :) and i love soft lips!! that stuff makes my lips all soft and pretty LOL

Nichole

AOPiTerp 02-06-2002 04:27 AM

I was on accutane in high school, and vaseline worked well, but my dermatologist wrote me a prescription for special lip stuff, i forget what it was called. It was the greatest thing EVER. If you have really dry lips consider asking your doctor about this. It works wonders.

KarenC725 02-06-2002 09:17 AM

Wow, we are an opinionated bunch aren't we ;)
Thanks for everyones input. I'm thinking of going shopping this weekend so keep em coming!

KarenC725 02-06-2002 09:38 AM

Yea I am definetly bored too :p I have used the Philosophy kiss me, kinda pricey but it is nice, it works long hours so once you put it on for a bit you don't have to re-apply fot a bit, but thats ones pretty good as well.

KarenC725 02-06-2002 11:10 AM

I'm trying to decide if I just want to splurge and get the philosophy. I'm also just trying to stay awake and look busy:) MOst of the office is leaving for San Diego today and tomorrow so its very quiet.

newbie 02-06-2002 08:45 PM

Tracy, do you have a Pure Beauty store near you? In California, there are a lot of Pure Beauty stores...that is where I got my Rosebud Salve.

When I have more free time I'm gonna do a search for you on icompact.com (my fave beauty advice website) ... there were posters who couldn't find the Rosebud Salve and there were recommendations of both online and other stores. I'll post again when I find it!

If you can't find it, I can get one and send it to you...don't worry about it, it's not expensive at all! There's a Pure Beauty right by my house. You have GOT to try it...it's amazing! :D

KarenC725 02-07-2002 09:05 AM

For all of the ChapStick lovers, do you ever feel that it's kinda heavy? I just got some of the moisturizing stuff last night and it feels, well, kinda icky...

SAEguy 02-07-2002 09:16 AM

Well I know I'm a guy and all but hey I need soft lips too, correct me if I'm wrong but girls like kissing guys with soft lips.....anyways I use regular chapstick in wintergreen flavor and it works good! In the summer I use and SPF30 while I lifeguard:cool:

Yes, we like kissing guys who's lips won't cut us;). Just to ask, do you have any aversion to the SoftLips brand? I'm wondering if my guy is just weird...

SAEguy 02-07-2002 09:53 AM

Aversion no, I do try and stick with ones that wont bring taunts from my brothers :D but I pretty much use whatever works. I havent ever really tried soft lips but if it works good i would try it...

LDSstars 02-07-2002 10:29 AM

Aveeda makes a great lip balm....no taste plus has an spf 15.

KarenC725 02-07-2002 10:45 AM

I meant more along the lines of kissing a girl wearing softlips, but ok ;)

SAEguy 02-08-2002 02:03 PM

:( LOL, well if I liked a girl I really dont think her preference of lip balm/chapstick would keep me from kissing her. Sorry it was early and I was confused.....:D

KarenC725 02-08-2002 02:19 PM

Not a problem. I think my guy just got so sick of the flavor that he finally said something. Thankfully, I found something better;)

SilverTurtle 02-08-2002 08:22 PM

*raises hand*
I, too, am a chapstick addict! :o

my recommendations:
  • For very chapped lips, gotta be Blistex DCT (Daily Care Treatment)
  • For chapped or dry lips Blistex in the green tube (with SPF 15, I think). If I can't find it, I'll settle for Cherry Chapstick, but I won't be too happy about it :p
  • Daily use because your lips feel dry (but really you probably need more water as someone mentioned)... Bonne Bell! Yes, that flavored stuff from when you were a kid.
I have "Martian Mallow" in my pocket right now, and it even has glitter. To this day my mom's fave lip balm is Bonne Bell's Dr. Pepper, which is darn hard to find. My little's dad works for Bonne Bell, so every Christmas she brings out the list and we get to order all kinds of stuff! Like kids in a candy store with that thing! :D

tridelta4ever 02-09-2002 09:39 AM

I love lip balm. I literally have 30 things of it here.

My favorites are Burt's bees (it actually helps freshen breath too), Bonne Bell (I have every flavor, I swear), and this new kind from the Body Shop called Fruit Gloss or something. It's delicious and really moisturizing.

I would love to try Smith's Rosebud Salve....gotta figure out where to find it though!

Smith's Rosebud Salve

All those interested in the Rosebud salve: you can buy Smith's Rosebud Salve online:
http://www.smallflower.com/gc_stuffer.html

This is just one of the sites I'm going to mention. You can do a search on "Smith's Rosebud Salve" and find a whole bunch of sites.

However, Carrie -- I gotcha covered and will send them ASAP!! :)

KillarneyRose 02-10-2002 05:53 PM

Newbie, you are such a sweetheart!!! Yay, I'm finally gonna get my Rosebud Salve!! :) I have my credit card ready and am about to commence ordering. Hmmm, there are some other cool things on that site maybe worth trying.....

newbie 02-10-2002 06:09 PM

Glad to have helped, Tracy! Let me know how it goes. I did some searching on our famous Rosebud Salve...and found that it's a staple in many models'/actresses'/makeup-artists-to-the-stars' makeup bags!

Wow! :)

bruinaphi 02-12-2002 07:31 PM

I work next door to a Pure Beauty. I think I might need an afternoon walk. Hmmm. I drive a convertible car so I use a lot of lip balm. My esthetician says that unless you are on medication you should not to use skin care products with sunscreen in them unless you are actually going to be in the sun, so I keep Chapstick with sunscreen and blistex with sunscreen in my car and keep all the others in my purse, desk and at home.

One of the women I work with has her own aromatherapy and bath product line. Her products are all natural and her lip balm is AMAZING! Her web site is www.badanbody.com. (As a side note, her soaps are my favorite!)

Newbie,
You are absolutely the sweetest. I am so excited about getting that Rosebud Salve after all this time looking for it! *BIG HUGS to you C!*

Carrie

p.s. oh! Another great brand that I use here in Germany, that I know is available at high end health food places like Whole Foods, is Dr. Hauschka. I love that stuff - it seems like they have an ointment/lotion for every possible skin problem. :-)

TriSigmaTX 02-17-2002 09:52 PM

I used to be addicted to Carmex, but then one day my boyfriend finally broke down and told me it was yucky when we kissed....so I immediately threw that away. Who wants their boyfriend to think yuck when they kiss. So, I use chapstick in the tube now. The squeezy blue one, but I can't find it anywhere usually.

KillarneyRose 02-17-2002 09:56 PM

Thanks!!!

Newbie!
Thanks to you providing me with the link, I am now the owner of 10 tins of Rosebud Salve that I ordered. I am already addicted! I love it; it feels soooooo nice on my lips. Not sticky at all, and it smells great!

Thanks again! :)
