Wooow! How can the new Pi Phi house fit on that lot? Well, and Chi O too?
I bet that Tri Delt will be next! |
Hi Carnation,
Yeah, I was surprised about Chi-O because of their historic building status. Btw the Chi-O Greek Theatre is also getting a facelift as well. I know the Pi Phi house will be stunning and it looks like the entry will be angled to face Old Main (from way down Maple St). I think you're right, if not Tri-Delt then Zeta will be next. I wish they would get started on the new Phi Mu and AXO houses, I've seen where they have hired contractors and UA has allocated space on Maple St ,but no sign of construction...gotta get those $$$ I suppose. |
Where are the AXO and Phi Mu lots on Maple?
|
Supposed to be between AOPi and Kappa on Maple...Take a look at the link here. You can also see the new TTKA house and it appears that Phi Mu is scheduled to begin this year (if this is accurate). This is the UA master plan.

I can't even remember what was on the AOII side of Kappa on Maple, I guess they're tearing something down? There used to be so many gorgeous big private homes on Douglas right behind them.
|
I can't either! They still have to find space for KA, Beta and I think Sig Ep wants new housing. KA, Beta, Phi Mu and AXO are all sharing Walton Hall. And I think UA is still open for extension 400+ per chapter...hmmm.

Oh, there was a little Presbyterian church there that I used to attend in grad school.
|
It was my understanding that the Wesley Foundation lot is providing at least some of space and they are being relocated to another area on campus. I know the chapel was an A-frame on Maple.

The sign went up today, the new Phi Mu house will be at Leverett and Maple.

Exciting times along the row! There appears to be no activity around the Study Abroad house (AXO location),but it was a Saturday. There is space the UA could seek between DDD and KKG and also behind ZTA.

Wow, Chi O's have 400 members??!!!! That is a huge house! Are all chapters that large? |
Most of the groups are in the 350-425 range from what I understand. UA is open for extension and is planning to add a new group this Fall and one in 2017. AGD and DZ presented last month.

I heard from the current Pi Phi House mother's daughter that they are having a garage sale this weekend......"Announcing Pi Phi Yard Sale-- (502 W. Maple). They are tearing their house down in a few weeks and rebuilding. They are selling EVERYTHING- we are talking bunk beds, dressers, washers, dryers, tables, desks, dining room furniture, even doorknobs, light fixtures, & plants out of the yard!! Sale is Saturday, May 16th 7 AM- 2 PM."
|
Darn! I wish I could go but can you imagine getting some of those bulky items out of the Boston Mountains? When I heard they were tearing down my grandmother's 6-bedroom house there, I really wanted to somehow get it here. Yeah, right.
So the Pi Phi house is being totally demolished? Any word on DDD or Zeta? |
Yes a complete demo. I am meeting a friend for lunch in Fayetteville on Saturday, I might have to pop by! No word on anyone else, Lambda Chi is renovating soon.
Here's Pi Phi's site http://www.arkansaspiphi.com/#main-slider |
Many fond memories of pep rallies as I was in the RMB back in the day!
Here's another article on the re-dedication: http://news.uark.edu/articles/27547/...te-renovations |

Haha, do you know how many kids and grandkids I have? I could use the industrial appliances but getting them out of the Boston Mountains? Not likely!

Wait...the are under 200 members in a fraternity, but the sororities have almost 400 members? Is that the norm there?
|
Yes, that's normal at UA. There are 14 fraternities and 10 sororities. A large fraternity new member class is around 80. Our chapter has approximately 200 men. What surprises me is the size, only 24 beds.
|
How many women typically live in a sorority house? On my campus, between 80-100 women lived in the houses and the fraternities ranged from 50-90.
|
I would say 75-100 with the higher end being the new houses. Next year for example, Pi Phi and Chi O will be unhoused as their existing houses are being renovated/remodeled and Phi Mu and AXO still do not have houses.
Several fraternities do not have houses AGR, Beta and KA and then Lambda Chi and Sig Ep are under renovation, I would think fraternity houses are in the 50+ range. Our house was completely renovated recently and we have approximately 70 beds. |
AOII's house was built in 2008 and sleeps 85.
|
I drove by campus last weekend and the back half of the Chi O house is history, Pi Phi has a construction fence around it ,but no work as yet. They took the fence down around the Phi Mu lot and something is going on behind ADPi, the lot is fenced off. I'm not sure what is going on there if it is part of the Chi O project, U of A using it or if ADPi is adding on ???
Construction Update - Demolition has begun on Pi Phi (side entrance and drive), Back end of XO house is gone and hauled away. The building going up behind ADPi is the new Wesley Foundation. No action on Phi Mu lot, same contractor as Pi Phi though (CDI) |
What are they doing where the 4-H House used to be? :( That one was beautiful.
|
Oh Carnation! I think that was before my time. Where was it?
|
over by Futrall
|
If it is the house I am thinking about....it was FIJI when I was in school (80s) and is no longer there. Was it behind Futrall and somewhat close to DG? FIJI built a new house and is where DU used to be.
