NYC Premiere of "The Interview" cancelled
and one theater chain has already pulled it:

Unfortunate but good at the same time. This is one of a few movies that should not have been made. I don't see this as artistic license, etc.
|
To me this movie just looks plain idiotic and not worth seeing regardless. Don't get me wrong I do like movies that have sort of that "silly" humor. But this just not look interesting or funny based on the previews.

The movie Team America is far more irreverent in its treating of the leader of North Korea. It's not as if this reaction could have reasonably been predicted.
|
The film's release has been completely cancelled.

All I can say about this situation is that before, I wasn't really sure I wanted to see it and now, I feel it is my duty as an American to watch this film and somehow pay Sony for the pleasure of doing so.

Lol Kevin.
A friend hit the nail on the head and said the only reason this is being pulled is that the threats might keep people from seeing other Sony films in multiplexes. |

And in another bizarre twist: Paramount has banned all upcoming screenings of Matt Stone's & Trey Parker's 2004 satire, "Team America: World Police".
https://twitter.com/ThisIsFusion/sta...79975488425984 From the movie's Wiki page (good thing I bought a DVD copy today), and it's still on Netflix as of this posting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_America:_World_Police Reaction to Guardians of Peace threats on The Interview[edit] See also: Sony Pictures Entertainment hack In the aftermath of the December 2014 Guardians of Peace terrorism threats on showings of the film The Interview, which resulted in Sony Pictures pulling the film from release,[34] several theatres protested the loss by scheduling showings of Team America: World Police.[35] However, Paramount pulled distribution of Team America from theaters and asked several retailers to recall the DVDs and Blu-Ray discs from stores, and discourage streaming services like Netflix from having the movie.[36] This action is seen by some as an attack on freedom of speech by Hollywood studios,[37] and others as an act of pure cowardice.[38] |
Former U.S. Ambassador to China (& Sigma Chi), Jon Huntsman Jr., weighs in on "The Interview" cancellation: http://www.tmz.com/2014/12/19/jon-hu...assador-video/

ETA- Apparently it's the movie theaters and distributors that ended up making the call to shelf the movie. Sony Pictures wants to release it, they just don't have a platform to do so. |
No, they've said they won't even release it on Netflix or straight to on demand or video. If they really wanted to put it out, there are still independent theaters out there. Honestly, it's probably a crappy movie that they were dreading the release and flop of anyway, the threats are kust the cherry on the sundae.

I work for a major theatre chain and while I can't say a ton, I will say that the threats and hacking attempts were not just confined to Sony. There were many other organizations in the movie business, including multiple large chains, that were targeted.

The expert on evil organizations gives some advice to North Korea:

Are things about to go to hell in a hand basket? Or just more rhetoric?
Now, North Korea is saying the U.S. government was behind "The Interview" & North Korea is also threatening destruction. https://twitter.com/search?q=%22Nort...ea%22&src=tren |
This has more plot twists than a daytime soap opera.
The Interview will see the light of day, according to Sony lawyer David Boies. Boies appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday and claimed that Sony’s controversial comedy The Interview “will be distributed.” How it will be distributed, however, he admitted is unclear right now. “Sony only delayed this,” Boies told Meet the Press host Chuck Todd. “Sony has been fighting to get this picture distributed. It will be distributed. How it’s going to be distributed, I don’t think anybody knows quite yet. But it’s going to be distributed.” https://www.yahoo.com/movies/sony-la...865827337.html |
And things progressed extremely towards ironic comedy today:
North Korea is experiencing wide-spread internet outages. :D |

At least one local theater owner told the news that he was excited to show the movie because he knew he could sell it out. I doubt that Sony is going to make any money on this, but the indie theater guys might. |

Going to be streamed on YouTube and other platforms.
https://www.yahoo.com/movies/the-int...068876912.html 'The Interview' Goes to YouTube, Google Play, XBox on Christmas Eve By Gregg Kilday Sony’s The Interview will become available today on a variety of online platforms including YouTube Movies, Google Play, Microsoft’s Xbox Video and Sony’s own dedicated website www.seetheinterview.com, the studio has announced. The movie, which will go online at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, can be rented for $5.99 and purchased in HD for $14.99. “It has always been Sony’s intention to have a national platform on which to release this film,” Michael Lynton, chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment, said. Planned hype???? DaffyKD |
I don't understand why they'd make such a big deal over an overseas dick who wouldn't do anything because he couldn't do anything even if they did release the movie. This country has turned soft.

I bought the movie. It is outstanding if you enjoy the sort of thing Franko and Rogan would appear in. I bought it because it is my duty as an American to do so.

Rogan is enjoyable when he stays in his house with no camera and never comes out to make movies. |
