Rushing in the Spring

Hi everyone!!! I'm a freshman at Syracuse and will be rushing in the spring.... I've been told that there are 3 "lower" sororities that I should avoid joining and was just wondering if anyone has any tips for doing the best in recruitment that I can! Thanks!! :)

We don't discuss tiers or reputations here. All NPC groups have outstanding programs and members and are wonderful organizations. Don't listen to "tent talk." Decide what is best for YOU and to heck with everyone else. They don't have to walk in your shoes.

Let us know how it goes!

QFP

You've been there for a whole semester. Haven't you met any sorority members?

ConfettiCupcake 11-19-2014 11:31 PM

Hi! Always remember that on these sort of forums, there is probably someone reading this who is a sister of one of the "top tier" sororities and someone who is a sister of one of the "bottom tier" sororities. You could have an awesome recruitment and end up in either one. The only thing that matters is finding the sorority that is right for YOU.

Let go of the tier talk. I promise you, it will only make you miserable.

What does QFP mean??
And I've met a few people in sororities but I don't know them very well.

Thanks for the advice Titchou and ConfettiCupcake!!!

1. Keep an open mind for ALL chapters.
2. Use the rest of the semester to meet sorority women.

Melly - Syracuse has a long and proud tradition with many outstanding organizations from which to choose.

Please do a little research before recruitment starts - learn a little bit about each organization both at the national level and at the local chapter level. Keep in mind that this research is for your own understanding - you should not trot it out during recruitment - otherwise you may seem overly enthusiastic.

Search "Syracuse Triad" (either in Greek Chat) or on Google to learn which organizations were founded at Syracuse.

Read the recruitment threads on GC, organize your warm clothing and prepare for a wonderful recruitment experience at Syracuse!

Thanks everyone!!!! I'm so excited to rush. I have to admit that there are 3 sororities I am most interested in joining but I will try and keep an open mind!

Is Syracuse rush super competitive???

DubaiSis 11-20-2014 03:02 PM

If it's you rushing, it's competitive. Cuts will hurt, seem arbitrary and downright mean. Get to know as many girls in as many chapters as you can. It will help you minimize the tent talk if you can think of the chapters having actual human women and not these ethereal supergoddeses that they can become in your head.

Another note, while a group may be "top tier" or "bottom tier" at your school, these are strong, national organizations with many years of history. Each and every national group has strong chapters and weaker chapters. But your sorority experience is more than just 4 years. Pick where you feel most at home.

Titchou 11-20-2014 04:16 PM

Keep in mind - THEY invite YOU...don't give them a reason not to.

I just want to say, that to be a member of any of the NPC groups is an honor. They each have their own distinct identity and history. It's a rich legacy in which you would get to be a part. Each group has very strong chapters as well as weaker chapters. Just remember regardless of which organization would offer you a bid, it is a part of a much bigger organization with a lot to offer. And if you are invited to join a smaller or weaker group, you can work to make it stronger. You can help it to grow.
