Rushing again
 

Hi there, I dunno if you guys remember me, but I posted awhile ago about my fall rush experiences. Things didn't turn out too great and I didn't end up in a house last semester (long story, but i had suicided after pref nite and wasn't offered a bid)... Anyways, spring rush (informal) starts tomorrow, and I'll be rushing again, so we'll see how it all goes. The houses can't take too many girls, appx. 10 for most, and more for others... I'm excited to go through again, and have gotten to know a lot more of the girls in the different houses, so we'll see what happens. 6 of the 9 houses on campus are rushing... rush goes saturday and sunday, then bid day is monday... wish me luck :)

Hey guys, the houses that are rushing are:
ADPi
Sigma Kappa
Delta Gamma
Kappa Delta
Alpha Phi
Gamma Phi Beta

So I went to all 6 today, had a great time at most of them... they're supposed to call us tonight and invite us back for the parties tomorrow, so it'll be nerve recking waiting for them to call, but we'll see how it all goes... We were given cards to put our names and phone #'s on which we gave to 1 to each house when we came in, but I forgot to at one house, so i called the girl in charge of rush and she said that they all had our applications so it should be fine... i hope so... so yeah, I'm sooo tired and exhausted, but overall it was a good day... i'll let you know how it goes later :-)

okay, well- it's about 9:30 here so I'm thinking the calling is over... I got invited back to 3 houses. I regretfully declined to go back to 2 houses. Since I went through fall rush, i already kinda knew which houses i was interested in... I didn't think it was fair to go back to those 2 parties knowing that I didn't feel like I belonged there. I know some people would say that i should just go and give it a chance, but i did in the fall, and i still feel the same way. I just didn't think it was fair to any of us, they are all such awesome girls but I've known for a while that I didn't belong there... so I'm going back to Kappa Delta tomorrow, which has been my first choice since the beginning. I had such a great time there today cuz I knew so many more of the girls and they all made me feel soooo welcomed... I got back to their party tomorrow and bid day is monday, so wish me luck! Thank you guys so much for all of your kind words and lots of advice :) I really appreciate it.

Good Luck! I feel bad, you girls have such a hard time rushing. For me when I rushed SAE it was so relaxed we got it easy. But you girls have the parties and callbacks sounds pretty nerve racking. I guess we get "pledgeship" though to even it out, well I'm glad you are giving it another chance. Good luck again!

Well, I'm back from Kappa Delta's party... it was a lot of fun, we just kinda sat and drank sparkling cider and watched a slide show... a lot of the girls came up to say hi to me, so i felt special... so i've signed my card and we'll see what happens... they're supposed to call us either way tonight to let us know if we matched or not... if we do match, we go to bid day tomorrow and find out which house (since i only put one house down, it would be easy to figure out if i do match)... so now i just wait... i'll be gone for this evening, so hopefully i won't come back to a sad message... thank you huys so much for all of your advice and good wishes :)

Yikes! I would be sooo nervous! I bet you conveniently decided not to be home tonight so that you wouldn't have to answer the phone! ;) :) I know *I* would be too scared to answer!

Hi there, thank you all so much for your kind words... but unfortunately I didn't receive a bid... I understand that they couldn't take a lot of girls, but I'm still incredibly hurt and sad. It's hard, cuz I'm sure you guys know what i mean when I say it's like rejection in your face... i know it's not like that, but that's how it feels... i still love the girls and everything, but I think I'm done w/ the whole greek thing, at least for now... i mean, hey- if COB happens, yay for that, but I can't see myself going through rush again... I've already done it twice, and it's just too hard... a girl can only take so much... I'm really sad right now, but I know I'll get over it and be better, it just hurts... I really need to find some other things to do to keep me busy and make me feel like part of a smalled community... I've checked out all the clubs, and things just didn't feel right or didn't work out, so i dunno... thank you all so much for your kind words, so if you have any advice to help me, i'm all open for suggestions

Gee, I'm so sorry things didn't fall into place. I wish Juniorgirl was here to read this. Her Rush experience was an emotinal rollercoaster. I don't have any astounding words of wisdom, but I know the generous people on GC will have some solid advice.
I hope you stay with GC and let us know what you are up to.
You will be OK when this is farther behind you. I think everyone of us has exerienced some kind of moment when we felt exactly like you described. At least I know I have. It does get better!

Ditto with what justamom said, especially at the end there. And take heart--a lot of us have rushed more than once and ended up in a sorority we were happy with. Just take it easy and remember that you don't have to make any decisions now!

If I were you, I'd make sure I had a great GPA and joined some clubs that made me happy. Get to know lots of people, Greek and non-Greek! Then...let's see what happens.

I know you said you really didn't feel you belonged at Sigma Kappa or A D Pi, but maybe another look? I don't know, you just seem like such an outgoing and fun young woman, that any sorority would be lucky to have you. I hope you find your way...I can imagine how tough it was to not get your bid. Keep your chin up, and if you need anything, feel free to PM me :)

I'm so sorry to hear things did not work out the way you had hoped. I was so looking forward to hearing that another non-greek here on GC had entered the land of greekdom.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Maybe this is not the group you were suppose to pledge. Or maybe you are suppose to be a KD,just not at your school. Whatever the reason,things have a way of working themselves out. I also hope that this does not kill your goal of wanting to be greek. Maybe you should look at alumi initation. Just remember that all of here at GC are behind you 100%

I just picked up this thread this morning - I am so so sorry for you. I know 100% exactly what you are going through. It sucks beyond belief and you end up feeling like something is wrong with you.

Whatever you do, keep a positive outlook, keep yourself busy, don't let them see that they hurt you. I joined a very well-respected service org after my first rush experience, and even though I didn't like it too much, I stuck with it, and now its great.

My best advice is to find a good activity and just stay with it. Before you know it, you'll be like me, a graduating senior, who has so much more to worry about in life than not being up to someone's arbitrary standards to be worthy of your friendship.

Sigh. OK, that totally sucks.

Take care of yourself, do fun things and know that this has no bearing on who you are.

Maybe you'll feel like going it again, maybe you won't. Only time will tell.
