I'm the only person at my house who

Frequently, when I discover some mundane simple household task that has been ignored and left undone, I think to myself, "apparently, I'm the only one at my house who knows how to (insert task here)."

Today, I was the only one who knows how to change lightbulbs (husband's bathroom -- three were out!) and change the toilet paper roll (daughter's bathroom).

What are the things for which my fellow GC'ers are the only ones with a special skill set?

My boyfriend's the only one in our house who knows how to change lightbulbs. :-/ Well, I know how, but even with a stepladder, I can't reach the ceiling. Sometimes I wonder if I had him move in solely because the house was getting too dark...

For me, vacuuming and scooping litter boxes.

I'm the only person at my house who knows how to put dishes in the dishwasher & hand-wash pots/pans/coffee tumblers.

I'm also the only person in my house who knows how to light a candle.

Laundry
Dog's medications
Picking up the mail

ADPiEE 09-09-2014 09:55 PM

clean the litter box
give dogs medication
make doctor/dentist/orthodontist/hair appointments
call in prescriptions

Everything else I've been pretty good about outsourcing to the kids lol

PrettyBoy 09-09-2014 10:18 PM

Cooking, keeping the computers working properly, keeping the house maintained, and keeping the maintenance up on the vehicles.

amIblue? 09-09-2014 10:22 PM

PrettyBoy, all of that stuff takes actual knowledge and skill, if not talent.

But, get down with your bad self!

Tulip86 09-10-2014 05:54 AM

Laundry
Throwing out old food
Making the bed

Everyone in my household is afraid of them.

Mowing the lawn.

IUHoosiergirl88 09-10-2014 06:56 PM

Closes the shoe/coat closet door
Wipes down countertops
Dusts

honeychile 09-10-2014 08:24 PM

Knows where the plunger and toilet brush are.

NEXT TO THE COMMODE!! Obviously, these things don't fix or clean themselves!!

Well, my wife would tell you that I think I'm the only one who knows how to load a dishwasher, which is why I come behind her or others and re-load it, or at best fight the urge.

I re-load the dishwasher because I'm apparently the only person in the who actually knows how to load a dishwasher. ;)

I also seem to be the only one who knows how to take the recycling out when the bin is overflowing.

Sciencewoman 09-11-2014 12:01 PM

turns off the lights when I leave a room
moves recyclables from their unneeded temporary location on the kitchen counter to the actual recycling bins
moves pop bottles from the same unneeded temporary location on the kitchen counter to the pop-bottle-return-for-deposit-bag
gives the dog a bath

Obviously, you and my husband are both proud graduates of the Institute for Advanced Training in Dishwasher Loading.

He does the same thing, and I'm glad of it. I rarely touch the dishwasher.

I just wish your husband and MC would give my husband some dishwasher loading lessons. He will half-fill the thing after a meal, still have dirty dishes in the sink, and then run it!

I'm the only one in my house who knows how to turn off the lights when leaving a room. If it were up to my husband, every light in the house would be blazing 24/7.

But ... I've made sure my husband is the only one who knows how to clean the litterbox. ;) (I know how, and I do it when he's out of town, but when he's home, it's his job.)

Boy, did I laugh! I can attest that the Deadly Dishwasher Loading argument also happens with roommates, using the same visual imaginings.

This was hilarious. I would also like to add that I am the only person capable of plugging in and actually operating our vacuum cleaner. Have now decided that I will be saving for a Roomba.
