Pink sequin girl?
It's been a while since I've been on GC, but I remember reading an incredible (and unbelievable) rush story of a girl dressed in pink sequins. I swear, I have never laughed so hard in my life! I can't find the thread, but I know some long-time GCers will remember it and point me to it.

GCers, wasn't the thread deleted? |
No-- someone managed to find it and post it last year- I have never laughed so hard not to mention bitterly disappointed not to find out what "the thing" was….

I am only halfway through the second long post of the OP and my BS meter is pegged. No way any of this is real.
|
Oh, my! I am going to need an adult beverage to get through this one!;)

Page 9 - time for a refill :D

Page 13 and only day 2! I had to get out the hard stuff - that's right, ice cream - right out of the carton!
|
Finished it! Seriously???
|
Instead of enjoying it for the fiction that it was, some folks BS meters kept going off, and they harassed the OP so severely that she flounced away. I was hoping that everyone would wait until her bid day post, but alas.......
|
One of the great tragedies of life is that we'll never know what that thing was. Sigh.

I'm guessing she ran out of time to finish her game, and/or was thrown off by how to reconcile the fact-checking with her planned story climax. Something tells me "recruitment" is still among us. The pieces were so clearly an Elle-Woods-fueled satire that it has to be someone who is steeped in the lore of NPC, and also very well-versed in the culture of GC. A regular modern mystery, it is! Good show, girl. You're legendary. |
Aw, really? Now I'm going to have to re-read this thing to remind myself of how incredibly ridiculous that whole story was.. and still is.
:D |
Cue the bumping of epic threads!!!!
Find me: Chainsaw vs. television Ho Be Lookin Predator (Bonus points for the original source post and resulting thread.) Fear of Clowns |
Truly epic threads!!

And I really, really wanted to know if Callie got a bid.
|
I have thought about that thread so many times in the few years I was away from GC. I forgot she was a twin; all I remembered was that she was oh-so-perfect and those damned pink-sequined stockings (tres gauche). But still, it was very interesting and entertaining reading. I'm so glad OldOleMiss dredged up the link so that we could all, once again, visit the trainwreck. And yes, I really wish we knew how that whole thing ended up and who went where.

Sweet Valley Sorority Recruitment... I miss that summer. So many trolls.
|
I just re-read the entire saga. So many things didn't make sense. And then I googled "twin attorneys" and found these ladies: http://www.kpho.com/story/23152109/p...on-tlc-program

The twin attorneys that were found seem to have graduated from the same large university. Maybe this isn't the pair of twins from the original post.
|
After rereading that story, I now have this song stuck in my head.
|
I remember reading this thread originally and being quite frustrated at those who slammed the OP - didn't care if it was true, it was entertaining!
My guesses for campuses are University of Miami (for OP) and University of Florida (for twin) and the "thing" is that they are related to an Aspen founder. |

I sluethed too, but couldn't find any sorority affiliation for either. Not even on linkedin.
But I would LOVE to eventually know the identity or sorority -- or if it was even true. |
I felt that the pink sequin thread had a southern ring about it, or at least a sorority recruitment that is/was southern as we think of southern rush. For some reason I thought Ok.U(competitive rush) and University of Tulsa. Maybe it was because Callie was from an adjacent state and her family had a big ranch.
|
The OP messaged me and hinted that she was a Pi Phi. I still think she was a sock puppet, though. There was plenty of trolling going on back then.
There was also some relation (IP numbers?) to the posters key*key and anchor*anchor. |
That key*key person was awful.
I still maintain it was someone on assignment from a creative writing class to represent themselves as a sorority member and were irate that we "made" them. |

I looked at the # of sororities at each school, from her description, and it adds up. I also know women who went to both universities about the time of her (supposed) recruitment and know from my own experience. I think I can crack the code! (Or, at least, I'll try.) So, I'll go back to the story and read it with new eyes. (This will take some time, so remember: Patience is a Virtue.) In post #18 (from the original thread), TU was more of a commuter school & the visionary president at the smaller school was Pascal Twyman. He was awesome, very charismatic, mingled with the students (I got to have breakfast with "the President" my first year) & did great things for the university. I could call the President's office and he would take my call! He even got Germaine Greer to be a Visiting Professor in Women's Studies for a year! The reason the TU campus has expanded to 2x the size since the 1980's is due to Pascal Twyman. When he passed at age 55 from cancer, past/current students & staff cried. President Twyman was well-respected and loved. Now, to solve some mysteries ... hopefully. Our Pink Sequined girl listed 6 sororities, which TU has 6: Chi O, Tri Delta, KD, Kappa, DG, Theta. This is each chapter's location on Sorority Row, starting with closest to campus (which may help with sluething). She lists the sororities on her campus as 11, which matches with OU: AXO, AGD, APhi, XO, DDD, DG, GPhiB, Theta, Kappa, Pi Phi, and depending when she went thru Recruitment, the 11th chapter would be either ZTA or AOPi. [updated, as I figured out KD chapter closed at OU] So 5 of 6 chapters at TU have chapters at OU. BUT, OU's recruitment and bid day are usually prior to TU's dates. Maybe there was a change the year she went through recruitment. Now, I have to say, the Greek atmosphere at Tulsa is NOT one where if your sister got a bid at another university while you were going thru recruitment, that the other houses would not ask you back. (But since she said it was the other way around -- her sister pledged at TU and she was still in recruitment at OU -- possibly, but not likely.) |

I looked at the # of sororities at each school, from her description, and it adds up. I also know women who went to both universities about the time of her (supposed) recruitment and know from my own experience." Yes! |
