Mizzou Recruitment Fall 2014
PNMs registered is 1978. I believe another record and maybe a couple hundred more than last year. Is that right Mizzou alums and/or advisors?
|
I want to say last year was right at 1700 registered, but I am not certain.
ETA: Just checked. Last year 1765 PNMs registered. |
Yep. 1978 this year, 1765 last year. A huge jump! I see some very late nights in my near future. :) Very excited to get things started, and wishing all PNMs the best of luck!! Mizzou has an amazing greek system. Keep your minds open and do your best to enjoy the process.
|
While I am so excited that this many women want to go Greek, it terrifies me at the same time.
This will result in a pledge class of 100! I don't know what the solution is (more chapters, tougher cuts??) but this is crazy. Also, why on earth is Mizzou's rush blowing up so much? I mean, I get Alabama, but for Missouri to have the second biggest rush seems a bit odd. |
Wow. Good luck to all who are involved!
Those are going to be some late, exhausting nights! |

With such a huge group of PNMs, I would expect recs will be even more crucial this year.
|
Wow, Sigma Kappa just came back on campus in 2012.
Last year's quota was 80. And 200+ more PNM's that 2013. Mizzou is going to need to expand again soon. |
Alpha Xi Delta has never been at Mizzou, but I think the time is ripe! Now housing, housing, who's got the housing?

I would love to see extension! I'm hopeful that we'll have some news on that front within the next 12-18 months at the latest. But we'll see.
If quota is over 100, though, I'll be surprised. A lot of women drop out over the week, and there are an unfortunate amount who don't maximize options and go bidless. But, I am assuming it will be in the 90s, and total will exceed 300. |
from IrishPipes's thread, because I had to look it up:

Extension would be great... but there is a lack of real estate and any org that opened there would have to have the capital to build a new house nearly immediately (like Tri Sigma). Phi Mu and Sigma Kappa were lucky to still "have" their houses, so they could renovate when they re-colonized.
Its just a really expensive campus to get onto... But the numbers are simply TOO big! 15 chapters and nearly 2000 PNMs? INSANITY! |

I hope so! Along with UF and Bama ;) |
Does anyone have the schedule? I couldn't find it on the website.

:(:(:( I love new colonies, as I'm sure we all do, and to see my sorority succeeding, again, as I'm sure we all do. I really want us to find a way to be back at Bama. It's a huge school with amazing greek life. And we definitely need that foothold in the SEC. Plus the University is so cooperative! I mean, they've already loaned millions of dollars to other sororities to build. 30 years is plenty of time to repay the loan! I'm just going to keep hoping and hopefully one day, sooner rather than later, it will happen. What I don't understand is that we did submit in 2007 (for 2008) with Alpha Phi and Delta Gamma, when they were selected to be stacked. At least according to the Colonies/Expansion thread from that year. So I don't understand what the hold up is now, if we were interested then, and greek life keeps growing and the options for a house are there, etc etc, why shouldn't we be interested now? |
Second day of recruitment today. PNM's will visit the second half of houses today. Going well so far. My daughter's house has worked VERY hard to prepare and are so excited about how it's going. It's SO huge at Miz with almost 2000 pnm's. Seems voices are gone already!

Ah that's true, I didn't even think about that!

That's exciting to hear! And me too!

The granddaughter of a woman I know just moved in, with the other freshmen. I have watched this young woman grow up since she was about five, and I'm trying to make her grandmother realize that, if she wants to go greek, she NEEDS recs. Here's hoping that she'll see the light in oh, an hour or two!!
|
Oh, Honeychile, that's such a frustrating experience. I've been there, Chicken Little, telling mom and daughter, that "Yes, you DO need recs for southern schools, Indiana...." And having mom say, "No problem, she's going XYZ....." Or, "she has friends..." Sigh.
Moms! Listen up!! Every. Single. Girl. In. Competitive. Recruitments. Is pretty darn stellar in one way or another, most often, stellar in multiple ways. |

My daughter is a senior at Mizzou. She said it is exhausting sorting through so many PNMs (late nights for sure!) but she is fully expecting 100 new babies come Sunday!
|
100 new members- CRAZY!
Moms and Rec Ladies- any updates from Mizzou??? |
It's still really early, so the moms might not have many updates. Round 2, day 1 isn't quite over yet right now. Then they have another full day before they do any more preferencing.
Not sure if it's been posted already, but here is the schedule: Monday/Tuesday - Open House Wednesday/Thursday - Skits Friday - Philanthropy and House Tours Saturday - Preference Sunday - Bid day at 1:00 p.m. |
I heard from my junior daughter that it's going well! So exciting and they are all exhausted . They are soooo looking forward to their new baby sisters!
Would love to hear from any Mom's or Rec Ladies at Mizzou to see how their daughters are feeling about the process! |
Not to be a wet blanket, but most NPC groups are strongly discouraging the use of the term "babies" when referring to new members. I know that chapters are still doing it, but these are young women, not babies.
|
You are absolutely correct, they are young women! Thanks for the gentle reminder. I just adore that they will soon be including younger sisters in their ranks. Best of luck to all the PNM's and the houses as they go through this process of finding new greek homes!
|
My daughter was surprised to be cut so heavily after the first round. I am not sure whether the record number of girls and her being a sophomore transfer from out of the area has anything to do with it? Is that considered a hinderance - even with a good GPA?
|
It won't ever be because of the number of PNMs. RFM utilizes percentages to determine how many each chapter can invite back, not raw numbers. Those percentages will just be applied to a larger PNM pool if there are a lot of PNMs.
No one will ever know for sure why your daughter experienced heavy cuts, but at most competitive recruitments, being a sophomore is a huge strike as is being a transfer. The good news is, it only takes one! |
That is good to know. And may make her feel better. She felt like she *really* connected with girls at 2 houses and was really excited and they both cut her. But she is keeping an open mind and continuing to put best foot forward. She did not go in saying I want A, B or C house.
I know in the very southern SEC schools being from out of the area could be a barrier, but I wouldn't think so at Mizzou? |
I don't think geography is a barrier - it is the lack of connections created by the geography. With no one who knows a PNM within the chapter to pull for her, it makes her recs and her ability to make a great impression/connection during the short and crazy recruitment parties all they have to go on. Some PNMs are successful at that, and some aren't. As Lon as she has any invitations, she is doing well and has another chance to create that connection.
|
Does Mizzou do UC quota? If not, her sophomore standing was most likely the cause. And even if they do, they will release UC who maybe aren't outstanding...
