Alpha Gamma Delta Convention 2014

Figured I'd start this.

AGD Convention - Indianapolis - July 9-12.

Highlights to include tours of the new IHQ, Indianapolis Indians Baseball Game, Philanthropy Walk, programming tracks, business meetings...

Memorial Service will be tough this year, but always beautiful, with Initiation and Honors of Epsilon Pi.

Who's going?

I'll be there :)

rockwallgreek 04-29-2014 01:11 PM

Convention

I'll be there!

OPhiAGinger 04-29-2014 04:01 PM

I'll be in Indianapolis for the OPA convention the week after you and your AGD sisters. We'll have to compare notes afterward about our impressions of Indy. I'm really looking forward to exploring it… that is, if we get a big enough block of free time to actually leave the downtown area!

agzg 04-29-2014 08:06 PM

I'm going! I mean I waited until the very last minute to register but I plan on going now!

AlwaysSAI 04-29-2014 08:45 PM

Due to having just finished grad school and teaching summer school in July, I won't be able to make it this year. :o

Ditto.

That said, I will be there. I'm very excited for the installation of our new Council members!

Me too! It will be very memorable this go round.

DoubleRose 06-03-2014 06:53 PM

I'm going! Can't wait to see new Headquarters. I was at the 1979 convention when we toured the old new Headquarters.

AGDAlum 06-07-2014 01:10 PM

I was at the '79 convention for the "new" HQ tour, too!
But I will not be at Convention this year -- partly finances and also because the AAUW-Illinois board meets that weekend and I need to attend.

DoctorD 06-08-2014 11:41 PM

Headquarters is stunning. The newly framed portraits and signatures of the founders, as well as their badges (if we have them)... as well as the archive room - all are pretty incredible. I meant to take a picture of the portraits when I was last there and got distracted.

Very cool. None of that was up the last time I was there. I probably won't have time for a tour at Convention though.

DoctorD 06-19-2014 02:30 PM

Speaking of tours - who is touring IHQ? What day? I'm currently down for Wednesday morning, but may end up not being able to go.

DoctorD 06-30-2014 11:04 AM

White dress found. White shoes found.

What about the dress you sent me the pic of a couple months ago? I thought that was the white dress?

DoctorD 06-30-2014 10:38 PM

sadly.... no. It was awful when it showed up.

ashleighnyc 07-04-2014 11:48 PM

I will be attending convention for the first time as a collegian and am picking up a formal dress tomorrow afternoon. Do any of you know how formal Feast of Roses is? Or have a reference photo of past years (other than what is on the website). Also my name is Ashleigh, I can't wait to meet all of you that will be attending!

agzg 07-05-2014 12:06 PM

It ranges from very formal, floor length dresses, to semiformal.

I wore a Kelly green dress that was plain, just above the knee, full skirt, with sparkly shoes and a silver beaded necklace last time and felt right at home. If you go full length, avoid something super beaded or sparkly to avoid the Miss America look.

Also, welcome to GreekChat and I hope you have fun at Convention!

agzg 07-05-2014 12:08 PM

Speaking of Feast of Roses dresses, I'm waffling on the one I got - there's a very good chance I'll be packing last time's dress as backup.

You'll see the gamut. I'm going formal out of necessity and role that evening. Last time I wore something that could be considered cocktail - in the "little black dress" genre.

DoctorD 07-06-2014 09:53 PM

Is there possibility for a "Greek Chat" meet up? At least for a picture?

Dee - what's your schedule looking like during the meet-up times?

indygphib 07-09-2014 04:19 PM

Welcome to Indy, AGDs! Hope you enjoy your stay. If you have some free time, be sure to check out the various museums, the zoo, and botanical garden by Victory Field. If you are looking for entertainment or a place to eat, bypass the main part of downtown and take a quick cab ride over to Massachusetts Avenue aka Mass Ave - the Rathskeller has an awesome Biergarten and good food. Bazbeaux's Pizza? Amazeballs. Mass Ave also has a lot of local pubs and quirky shops that are worth visiting. The best shop along the street is none other than Silver in the City - owned and operated by a sister from my own G Phi B chapter! Check it out!

Convention 2016 announcement can be found on the Facebook page - it will be in Orlando FL!

AGDee 07-13-2014 11:09 PM

Indy was great! Looking forward to Orlando already :)

rockwallgreek 07-14-2014 08:15 AM

Had a fantastic time!

Indy was great! Enjoyed meeting GC Alpha Gams and many others. Se you all in Orlando.

AGDee 07-20-2014 12:26 PM

We get it done next time!

AGDee 07-20-2014 07:03 PM

That she was, but I didn't meet her until Saturday's lunch when we sat next to each other and she said "You're AGDee, aren't you?"

I've seen pics of this hotel in Orlando. I don't know how we're going to keep collegians engaged in sessions and business meetings... Shoot, I don't know how I'm going to stay engaged in sessions and business meetings!

DoctorD 07-20-2014 07:27 PM

I've had the same thought.... and I've also determined that the whole family will come down and I'll stay longer.

AGDCanada11 07-20-2014 08:06 PM

DoctorD, my fiancee and I will be doing the same thing!

Hopefully that way I will be able to pay attention to the sessions, knowing I will be able to enjoy Orlando afterwards :)

AGDee 07-20-2014 09:13 PM

I thought the same thing, especially since my dad is only an hour from there, but then I realized that Hypo will be finished with college and may be working- might not have the vacation time. Who knows what Halo will be doing in the summer between sophomore and Junior years. Internship? I don't know.

agzg 07-20-2014 10:15 PM

Meh, I can't imagine wanting to face the crowds and standing in line for both Alpha Gam stuff and theme park stuff. But I'm a giant Grumpy Cat when it comes to that stuff.

My favorite thing in the whole darn world! If I go missing, you'll know where to find me!

rockwallgreek 07-22-2014 09:33 AM

I'm thinking family vacation!

I go to convention, my husband, four daughters (all Alpha Gams), their husbands and kids come on down for a blissful few days! I've already told them to start saving!
