Clippers owner Don Sterling's racist remarks
|
Honestly, there are no words. This is reprehensible, not to mention repugnant, behavior from him. Was he drunk? On drugs? Does he have dementia? Or WHAT?
Those are my thoughts about his words. My opinion: unprintable. |

The NBA needs to force him out like MLB did with (former Cincinnati Reds owner) Marge Schott several years ago. |
Yup. If the NBA has even the barest modicum of respect for its players, they need to throw Sterling out immediately.
|
Sounds like deep-seeded issues he has that he doesn't want to deal with. Sour and bitter.
|
He's probably used that language for a long time behind closed doors. When surrounded by armies of yes men, it's probably safe that he didn't think anyone would have a problem with it.
I think we'll probably see how his racial attitudes affect his business practices, and if they do, lawsuits are in his not so far off future. |
People in my circle are saying the players should quit the team in protest.
Those people are dumb and have never been professional athletes. |
Clippers players stage silent protest:

Good for them.
As for Sterling, maybe he can hook up with Paula Deen and open an NBA-themed restaurant where all of the servers...nope, there is no way I can finish this sentence. |

NBA doesn't have the anti-trust exemption, which, I heard, was used to help force out baseball owner Marge Schott in the 80s? I thought Clippers' players response was appropriate yesterday. ABC's repeated shots of Sterling's wife sitting courtside, while they talked about his alleged girlfriend, was brutal to watch. |

The people of Seattle didn't want the team. That's why it's now (happily) the OKC Thunder. |
Confused
As a clippers fan, that just discusses me. I mean, you have a black gf so I don't even know how racist this guy really is. I just don't get it. But I just hope that the clippers don't throw the game because of this. They are playing for themselves at the end of the day, not sterling.
|
The most racist people in human history didn't have any trouble using black women sexually. In fact, that was part of the fun of owning them. Let's face it -- there's no reason to think that she actually liked him. If he weren't racist, he'd still be an ugly 80-year-old married man not known for his personality. She's a working girl, and he was her employer.
|
It's hard to determine who was using who. She seems like the classic gold digger and if the allegations are true that she embezzled over $1 mil from Sterling then her true intentions in all of this is questionable.

WOW... NBA commissioner came down on Sterling HARD. Nice to see some real punishment. I am assuming that Sterling now has an EX girlfriend, in addition to a soon-to-be ex wife.

I guess there could be a debate about how "real" or "hard" the league has come down. There are so many layers to this onion.... |

She's definitely not a victim here. This is just a mud slinging match where everyone got dirty. |

I haven't read all the details, but it doesn't sound like there were any victims here. There were people who were douchy, and others who were treated with disrespect, money grubbers and philanderers, but I'm not seeing victims.
I'm glad to see there was punishment even if it won't hurt him very much. What he did wasn't illegal, so throwing him in jail with a bunch of black guys might sound like fun, it wouldn't happen. |

Sterling could be facing a bigger financial hit
http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/...0_million.html
"Let’s run through some quick back of the envelope calculations. By all accounts, the Clippers are far more valuable today than when Sterling bought them in 1981 for $12.5 million. According to the Wall Street Journal, insiders think he could “easily fetch $700 million or more from the sale.” So let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that he makes a full $700 million profit. The federal capital gains rate for high earners is 20 percent, while California’s state rate is 13.3 percent. That’s a $233 million tax bill, leaving $467 million behind." |

"NBA be like, 'Bye Felicia.'"
Funniest thing I've heard on the radio in a very long time. :p |

I don't wish ill on anyone but it is no coincidence that they are report Sterling is battling cancer. I wish him well but this release is probably done for two reasons: (1) if you're going to release "private info," release his health info; and (2) buffer the negative public image.
I understand some people's issue with something said in privacy being held against someone. The question is when is something "private." Kudos to the NAACP no longer honoring Sterling. It is too bad the president of that NAACP chapter resigning. |
I don't know why Sterling didn't just make a (fake) public apology, and then wait about 6 months until it all blows over. It seemed to have worked for Paula Dean. I know her views on us are still the same today as they were before she "apologized". But people moved on from it.
