Reggae
One of my favorite genres. What are your favorite reggae songs? Who are your favorite reggae artists?
You can include ska, rocksteady, dancehall, and other style derivatives. I shall start with old school--1960s-1990s! Toots and the Maytals 5446 Was My Number: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nNLbAO_2usQ (Original) Bam Bam: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ldsaLw8478Q Yellowman Bam Bam remake: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5GmGvXLodKo Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nh5CapYICg Zungguzungguguzungguzeng: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HV46OGU7ksE Sister Nancy Bam Bam remake: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qXnT3LFTc-s Chaka Demus and Pliers Bam Bam remake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz-G25XMXr4 Murder She Wrote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzP_NF06vpg |
I like this thread.
Jimmy Cliff Crank it up. Real LOUD. Another classic The one that I listened to over and over (trying my best to dance like no one was watching) Oh, great, now I have to go dig out the cds. No sleep tonight. |
I was like "where's AZTheta?! There she is!!!" :D I love Jimmy Cliff.
Let the record show, AZTheta was the first to post Bob Marley. I had promised myself not to post Bob Marley, The Wailers, and Peter Tosh until the fourth post. :p How dare you have reggae CDs stashed away collecting dust! Gregory Isaacs "Night Nurse": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6oYyG0KcvQ Toots and the Maytals "Pressure Drop" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rb13ksYO0s Desmond Dekker "Israelites" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83Y2hv-3UCM |
AH! you beat me to it! I was just listening to Pressure Drop! And you might remember that I saw Jimmy Cliff here year before last and you hated me for that.
Looking for Burning Spear - the Marcus Garvey album that I replaced with a cd. It better be in my possession still. My friends were like "What IS that you're listening to?" If you ever get a chance on a Sunday night, Rasta Riddims is a radio program on KXCI.org. You can listen online. 9-11 pm Arizona time (which half the year is Mountain Standard, the other half is Pacific Daylight. Yes it's confusing.) |
My favorite artists are still from the late '70s/early '80s. In addition to some of DrPhil's:
Derrick Harriott: "The Best of Both Worlds" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Qy3yRzXYs4 Sugar Minott: "Good Thing Going" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBj7Llo4wVM Sheila Hylton: "The Bed's Too Big Without You" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpBqj5UeRQU Horace Andy: "Bob Lives On" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMVVhgU3OO0 Peter Tosh: "African" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hxm1cU5Ewbw The Congos: "Fisherman" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDBvuGAZe3I Augustus Pablo: "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbCrYBWh62Y |
Not a regular reggae artist, but an artist I like (and one who is very easy on the eyes)
Michael Franti:Hey now now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9JEo...=RD01FE9cPXE3M Love everything Bob Marley did, as well as UB40: Can't help falling in love with you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajp0U...58AD6224E4725B Every Breath You Take: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2xAYdTFQzk And of course, Red, Red Wine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYQ1lkP1j_g And Eric Clapton reggaes up "Wonderful Tonight": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiNpAyBuCd0 DrPhil, AZTheta, and Shellfish, thanks for your postings and for expanding my Reggae library! |

DrPhil, I am not worried about the tagalongs. Let them sit on their hands, while we dance.

Bump because I'm at one of my favorite Jamaican restaurants (in the US---real Jamaican owners and chefs, not fakes)
They always play reggae. They are devout Christians so there is usually a show on the tv in the lobby and many of the reggae songs are gospel reggae. There's a gospel reggae to the tune of "Stir It Up". Every time the tune comes on I hope it is Marley and I start slow winding my hips in my seat. Only for it to be the gospel song. End slow winding. My heathen self has heard the gospel version hundreds of times but I still fall for the okie doke. |

Happy birthday, Bob Marley!!! :D
I'm at one of the many birthday parties/tribute reggae concerts happening around the world. People are celebrating The King. Okay...bye!!! :p |
