NJ, NYC, surrounding area greeks!
See that? That is the face of a person who has never lived east of the Mississippi. As of Sunday, I am living (temporarily) in Jersey. Like I said above.... :D So I know many greekchattin' types live in the Jersey/NYC/surrounding area...would anyone like to meet up? Drop me a PM if you would! P.S. Y'all drive like maniacs! ;) |
I used to live in Forest Hills, NY. Graduated from Forest Hills High in 94, Queens, NY. The best fencing team in the state. Other then that, we suck.
|
Where in NJ will you be temporarily residing? And what did you do that was soo bad you were exiled here?

Seriously though, where in Jersey are you relocating to equeen? I have family in the Princeton area and it's pretty nice. Jersey is just a random place in that you have a little bit of everything there- suburbs, mansions, ghettos. Oh well, at least it's close to NYC. Hopefully you are someplace like Jersey City which is a hop away (incidentally, it takes less time to get from Jersey City to Manhattan than it takes me to get there from the Bronx, which is, at least nominally, in the City. |
Anyway .. . lets work out a date to gather the viscious, unfriendly, north easterners together . . . you'll recognize me walking in the door, I'm about 4'5" and 240 pounds . . can't miss me;)
But it doesn't seem like the NE is well represented given the volume of replies . . look at the Socal and Atlanta people, they are friendly .. |
Darn it, why cant more of you be in Upstate NY!

ohh come on, 7 feet of snow is nothing!
|
I lived in upstate New York for 4 years of college, and I swear it seemed to snow from Halloween to May.
I think that we should get together. I'm 5'9" with curly auburn hair and fair skin with freckles...can't miss me, either! |
Hey New Yorkers/NJ folk
Just wondering- what is your favorite "spot" in the city? Where do you like to go after work or on weekends to party? After four years in CT I must admit that i find the bar scene in NYC to be just a liiiiiittle intimidating. I want to fins someplace unique without it being OUTRAGEOUSLY pretentious (a la Aubette's or Liquids). Let me know if you have any suggestions! |
I like Second Avenue in the Fifties- Turtle Bay, Sutton Place, and Opal. Those are fun places to hang out and meet new people.

and pick me up on the way in Ithaca :) :D |
Well why don't we see if we can agree on a place, see if anyone esle from the NE is interested . . . and set a tentative date for two weekends from now . . so either the weekend of the 2nd (which would be contigious with the Atlanta people we can call you by cell:)) or the weekend of the 9th. That is February people.
|
i'd go! let me know when!
and if you know any single guys between 22-33 that you could bring, bring them!!! :D |
Count me in! :D I'll finally get to meet you, James!

Not that I would find anyone I like, but it would be interesting and I am always down to be social. |
LOL!
What did I do deserve to move here...well, to answer that, I must say that I chose to take an assignment that would place me at my company's corporate HQ. Really cushy, I'm working as a supply chain consultant for the next few months! :)
And as for where...well, let's just say I live off of I-80, just in between the extremely urban area and the area that reminds me of Girl Scout camp. ;) Yes, we should meet up for sure! When and where? :) |

The winters aren't bad once you get used to them! :) I would love to meet equeen and the other chatters in ny/nj areas. |
Thank you Red Angel! I also dont think that there are that many UpNY/CNY/NYC/NJ chatters on here.
Im not driving, lol. Its called Amtrak! And Matthewg I could meet you at the Ithaca station consdiering its like 2-3 hours away from here :D But in all seriousness I think it would be nice to meet the NYC/NJ ( and any others past the Hudson River) area chatters. |
Well its generally easier to drive out of "The City" than into it so maybe meet outside of NYC on the Jersey side? That also may make it easier for our PA and DE people to be involved.
I am not sure of the geography on the NJ side of NYC . . . but like half an hour out of NYC but also near a train station. So a restaurant near a train station as well as near a major highway would be good. I am open to suggestions. . . |

Ok Cream, you and some of the other posters LIVE in NYC. what would be nice on this side of the river, preferably near a NJ Parkway exit:)?
|
Isn't everything in NJ near a Parkway exit?;)
|
*sigh* be more specific maybe? sheez, women, so vague . . . you all just need to be able to choose thing decisively:)
|
Let me think about it. I'm sleepy and I need to go to bed! 'night, James.

But we could drive from here if you catch a bus - we do actually have a Greyhound bus station :) I love the idea, too! Somewhere in northern NJ on a Saturday would be cool! |
Are there any fast food restaurants that fit the above description? When I say fast food restaurants I am talking about the chains like: Applebees, Chi chi's, Chili's Outbacks, etc.
|
I want my baby back, baby back, baby back, baby back, baby back, baby back ribs!
James, come to Manhattan! We'll hit some bars and have a blast! |
I vote for Manhattan. Convenient because all roads lead there. And many of us could just take the train in instead of wasting gas and driving.
Plus...you know all the fun places we could hit up! Can't find that anywhere else! |
True, but driving into the city and finding parking is always annoying. .
That is why I suggested some place right next to a train station:) But if everyone votes for Manhatten . . but lets start narrowing it down . . . cause we'll need time to make arrangements . . . You know PA people could come also? I wonder if they check the thread . . . |
Equeen, can you rename the Thread: Northeast GC meeting? or something. People from Pa are not even accessing the thread it seems, but they are pretty close to us:)
|
ok the weekend is one day away and i have no plans and my best friend is going out of town...
anyone want to hit up the city saturday night? i'm serious! i know it's short notice but it could happen! oh, and James, whatever is most convenient for everyone is what we'll do. what train do you take? wouldn't one go right into Penn station or grand central? and matthewg...i really hope you can make it. you are definitely on my "want to meet " list! |
I am down near Atlantic City .. . . unless you wanted to come here and gamble.. I would probably drive up to wherever . . . .
NYC is about 2.5 hours. Philadelphia about an hour. Any place over 2 or so hours away and I would probably get a hotel room for the night. That way I can sample some spirirts while hanging out:) |

I know a cheap hostel in NYC on 45th reight next to Times Square (4 bed dorm rooms, 33 bucks/pers.). The only thing as James says is: Parking in the City sucks. You NJ people, were would be a good park and ride station?? It would be so cool to meet you all guys! |
I'd come if it wasn't horribly far. I mean, being in Philly is close, but I'd rather drive than take the train. But if you all are going to do Manhattan, I guess the train it is :) Let me know when you decide. The 2nd and 16th are out for me, as I have plans those weekends.
|
I don't know guys, The City is such a place of temptation and sin, I wouldn't be able to hang with you guys, I would be too overcome by my passionate need to wallow in decadence and debauchery. I might not be found for DAYS!
Also, ouside the city we could get a suite in a Hilton or something for only slightly more money:) But hey I am up for anything . . I just feel kind of helpless without my car.:) |
What about Saturday 23rd February.
I cannot on either the 2nd (wild Jacuzzi Party with friends - want to come?) or the 16th (grad student recruitment weekend in our department). |

James outside the city is fine with me, too You guys decide and I only hope I can make it |
