does anyone know why there are so many headquarters found in indianapolis, and just indiana in general? is it kind of a central location? just wondering :)

aggieAXO 01-22-2002 03:31 PM

I am not exactly sure why other sororities are there but AXO and Theta were founded in Greencastle Indiana and I think that is why our headquarters are there.

AlphaGam1019 01-22-2002 03:34 PM

There is something about the Tax laws of Indianapolis that make it favorable to stick HQ's there.

UMgirl 01-22-2002 03:56 PM

Founders Road?

What other Fraternities and sSrorities have their headquarters on Founders Road besides.... Sigma Kappa, Alpha Gam and TKE? I think DU does too but im not sure.

AZ-AlphaXi 01-22-2002 04:04 PM

Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity Headquarters is also on Founder's Road in Indianapolis. I believe that Zeta Tau Alpha's is there as well.

AlphaGam1019 01-22-2002 04:06 PM

I think LXA is there too.

KarenC725 01-22-2002 04:06 PM

Yep. Zeta Tau Alpha is in Indy as well.

AlphaGam1019 01-22-2002 04:07 PM

Ripped from DU's page:

"Founders Road now hosts nine men's and women's fraternity headquarters, and there are nearly 30 fraternity headquarters in the greater Indianapolis area."

skip101 01-22-2002 04:10 PM

I think sig pi and acacia are in IND

UMgirl 01-22-2002 04:15 PM

I think Phi Delt is there too

KillarneyRose 01-22-2002 05:29 PM

Delta Zeta's headquarters are in Oxford, Ohio, where we were founded. I guess I had always assumed everyone had their headquarters where they were founded, but now see that that is not the case.

Just curious as to where everyone's HQ's are located?

Tom Earp 01-22-2002 05:51 PM

This was another thread back when and no one had a definitive answer!

Yes, LXA is on Founders Road! I beleive it was one of the first!

I would say it is not in the middle of the country! Kansas IS!!!:D

It would be great if All of the International or National Greeks were in Kansas City Area! Then we could meet have a hell of a party and make people think we are really crazy!

Maybe we could meet at the new Kansas Speedway, it only holds 75,000! Soon to be 150,000!:)

Damn can you imagine that many of us in one place at one time!?????

ZZ-kai- 01-22-2002 05:53 PM

Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta, Alpha Delta Phi, Delta Zeta and Delta Sigma Pi are all in Oxford, OH.

The reason why there are so many in Indy., so I have been told, is because it is a very central location within the U.S. and easy access for the Easterners and Westerners to meet (back in the day).

:) This is a front picture of the Beta Headquarters. It is on 8 acres of land, with a gigantic pond (Stocked with Trout) and then in the back, is our Hall of Chapters with walkways of engraved bricks of individual members and chapters.

DPhiE HQ was in St Louis and is now in Maryland Heights (which I believe is just outside of St. Louis).

GreekLetterGirl 01-22-2002 06:23 PM

Alpha Delta Pi's HQ is in Atlanta GA

amycat412 01-22-2002 06:25 PM

Chi Omega is on Founders Road/Circle (something like that) in Memphis. But it was formerly in Indianapolis (or was it Ohio--chi O's help me out here!)

:)Amy

AGDLynn 01-22-2002 06:26 PM

Alpha Delta Pi is in Atlanta, Georgia and Phi Mu is in Tucker, Georgia (but I heard they were moving to Peachtree City??) Since they were both founded in Macon, I think that's terrific.

Alpha Gamma Delta was founded in Syracuse, NY but Indy makes more since distance-wise, plus all the other Greek organizations are there giving added power!

TriSigmaTX 01-22-2002 06:39 PM

Tri Sigma is in Woodstock, Virginia and Tri Delta is in Arlington, TX
Cheap real estate is the answer for many.

aopirose 01-22-2002 06:50 PM

AOII is in Brentwood, TN which is near Nashville. We dedicated a new headquarters facility in April 2001. You can take a virtual tour by going to www.alphaomicronpi.org.

ladybug1116 01-22-2002 07:53 PM

AGDLynn---I hadn't heard of a planned Phi Mu move to Peachtree City. There hasn't been any mention of it on our website or in our quarterly magazine either.

LeslieAGD 01-22-2002 08:25 PM

This has been discussed in a thread before. The reasoning is that Indiana is concidered the "crossroads of america" and most major highways run through there. Also, Indiana gives tax breaks to non-profit organiztions. ;)

33girl 01-22-2002 08:26 PM

ASA's headquarters is in Indy, along w/ AXO, AGD, A Xi D, Theta, Sig Kap and Zeta.

We were in Springfield MO, which is in the heart of the bulk of our membership (not to mention a huge collegiate chapter literally across the street), so I'm inclined to think Indy HQ's are mostly about the tax breaks.

AGDLynn 01-22-2002 09:10 PM

Ladybug, there is a new Panhellenic Council that is forming here in "south metro Atlanta". At one of the first meetings last year, someone mentioned it. I can't remember if it was a Phi Mu so maybe it isn't credible..;)

Wish AGD would move to Georgia but that will never happen in my life time! :D

Before St. Louis, DPhiE HQ was in Stamford, Connecticut which was a lot closer to our Alpha chapter at NYU. I didn't know it moved again.

BrianMUDU 01-23-2002 01:14 AM

Tom,

According to my pledge manual, DU was the first to build headquarters in Indianapolis so I guess we were the first on Founders Road :D

Killarney,

I pass by the DZ headquarters/museum all the time. A very nice building!

AlphaGam1019 01-23-2002 08:43 AM

Anyone visited their HQ?

I haven't but plan on it!

Lisa Fishman 01-23-2002 09:16 AM

I think Alpha Epsilon Pi is also on Founders Rd.

Aphigal 01-23-2002 12:49 PM

Alpha Phi's HQ is in Evanston IL, right outside of Chicago. We were founded in Syracuse but our Beta chapter is right across the street from the HQ.

SAE and EX are also in Chicago.

I have been to the HQ a few times for meetings and stuff. My favorite part is a case with many antique badges in it, including some of our Founder's!

Is your beta chapter at Northwestern?

Tom Earp 01-23-2002 06:51 PM

BMudd, LXA moved to Indy in 1940 and 1955 moved to Wahsington Blvd. 1972 on Founders Road!

Dont know how this compares with DU?

I agree with all who say must get tax brakes as cost to us all are high enuff!!!!:(

I just hope it soon wont cost so much that the new young people cannot afford to join a Greek Org.

DeltAlum 01-24-2002 01:24 AM

Delta Tau Delta's Central Office is in Carmel, Indiana, a Northern suburb of Indianapolis.

I have been there. It is in very impressive leased space in a nice looking office building.

We are presently planning to build our own headquarters in the Indianapolis area.

I asked the "Why so many in Indy" question, and was told by a high ranking fraternity official that it was the Tax breaks offered there.

Yes, Alpha Phi's Beta Chapter is at Northwestern, across the street from our International Executive Office.

My legal fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta, is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland.

I have visited founders road...

I have been to founders Road in Indy a few times. Pretty cool. Its in a really wierd part of Indy tho. Like theres NO Zoneing in that part of town. You have houses, next to office buildings next to manufacturing facilities, next to chain resturaunts next to refineries. Just wierd. Anyway, the "neighborhood" is pretty cool. All the HQ's there seem to be only about 20 -25 years old. The ones Iremember (its been since 97) Were Lambda Chi, DU, Kappa Alpha Theta, TKE, Sigma Kappa. I know there were more. TKEs was a nice white stucco bldg. KAT was very nice. Very southern. Big staircase in the lobby. SK is right across form LXA. When we were there in 97 we took the tour of LXA HQ and were waiting for the mailroom chick to get back from lunch, because we were loading up on supplies (instad of communicating by phone and mail - afterall we were there.) So we had an hour to kill, so we went on a walking tour. Spent about 40 mins kicking it at SK HQ. Got the tour. It was really down to earth. the unusual part, is that I have lots of friends that are Sigma Kappas. It was like being in anyone of their apts. Got to meet their International president. That was cool. Indy is a nice city tho.

queequek 01-24-2002 09:30 AM

Theta Delta Chi is in Boston, MA

Delta Chi is in Iowa City, IA

FYI ...

ZZ-kai- 01-24-2002 11:05 AM

I don't know if many of you saw it, but I put a picture of the Beta Theta Pi HQ on the first page of this thread. I would enjoy seeing pics. of other HQ's if at all possible, so go ahead and post them!

I'm going to be at HQ over Spring Break (last week of February) to start setting up the archives (cataloging, properly storing, etc). I was also there the first Friday in January. Its a gorgeous building--but I still don't get the padded walls! :) Seriously, the walls are covered with fabric (rather than wallpaper) that has batting behind it. Colleen couldn't tell me exactly why the decorators did it and the only thing I could think of was sound dampening.
