Sorority Girls: Hollywood vs. Reality
 

Last night, I was watching a movie about sorority girls. They were your typical hot sorority girls. But in real life, now a days, sorority girls aren't that good looking like they once were at one time, or like Hollywood depicts them to be. I've seen quite a few fat ones, but Hollywood doesn't depict them to look like that. Why is this? Do sororities see their numbers getting smaller? Because they seem to not care anymore what the girls look like, like they once did. I see a lot of fat ones and it's kind of disappointing.

Also, I've always been disappointed that both fraternity men and men in general aren't as handsome and awesome as Hollywood portrays them. Did you know they even allow ugly and fat dudes into fraternities? I've even seen some who belch and scratch their behinds! I just can't believe that real life doesn't match up to a fantasy portrayed in a movie. :rolleyes:

I don't know what you mean by QFP, but fraternities don't boast on being hot like sororities boast. At one time, sorority girls were actually hot, which is where Hollywood gets it from. Fraternities are depicted as scratching their butts, belching, and binge drinking. You've never seen Animal House? Most of the sorority girls today look like girls you'd see in trailer park. I'm not saying that to be a dick about it, but the truth is the truth. I'm just asking why? And what happened? Your post really doesn't add up like mine does.

I thought in one of your earlier posts you mentioned wanting to go Greek in graduate school. Maybe I'm wrong and that was someone else. If you are "too old" then, I agree with 33girl and ASTAlumna06. Why are you on this website making harsh comments about these women you find to be beneath you and disgusting?

My guess is that the OP isn't much of a looker himself and therefore must put down sorority girls to make himself feel better.

As to Animal House, the Deltas were the antithesis of the "proper" fraternity-the Omega Theta Pis, however, were a good looking group of guys who dressed nicely.

Unless it was a documentary, how does the physical attractiveness of a bunch of actors accurately depict sorority girls from a certain era?

I doubt that there is a NPC or NPHC sorority or a local or multi-cultural or any other group that has taken "being hot" as a mission statement. Sororities don't exist to cater to guys or to the male gaze.

If sorority women aren't to your taste, move on.

Mission Statement or not, there are members of a particular NPHC sorority and fraternity who spend a lot of time nationally and internationally talking about how pretty they are. Even the unattractive ones.

When you look at pictures of our founders (and I think it is safe to say this as a generalization) they were strong, powerful, determined women, but they weren't necessarily lookers, even through the lens of the time. And I'm presuming men weren't thinking of our 15 year old founder as a "hottie."

First and foremost, Delta's Founders were highly accomplished and esteemed. But, I also consider them to have been beautiful women.

Not everyone agrees on aesthetics. Thus is the subjectivity of beauty. :)

I think a lot of it depends on the campus. At FSU, it was the Zetas that were fine. But then, when some bruhs and I would travel to other chapters as visiting bruhs, the Zetas at some of those schools were fat. I don't think there is one particular organization where every girl in one sorority at every chapter looks good. With NPHC frats, you won't find too many ugly NUPES, though lol. And if you do, he's got mad Konfidence.

When I'm attracted to a man initially, I'm not dealing with the core aspects of him, because the inner attributes are not what I first observe. It is a lot more than what he looks like that really attracts me, although the physical is essential, to me. However, those men in that picture look like sheep sh*t on a rocky mountain (all of them). Handsome is definitely in the eyes of the beholder, because men covered in tattoos, wearing boots, with their pants hanging off their butts is disgusting and unattractive, to me. Hmm, how would I describe men like that? FUBAR?

I'm going assume for the sake argument that you really are clueless and not a troll. I doubt it, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I've known a few stupid, creepy guys who needed an education.

Here's where you are going wrong:

1. You assume that women in old movies represent some sort of reality. They're not. They're idealized fantasy images. They always have been. Even in the women in Playboy, gorgeous as they undoubtedly are in real life, are made up, well lit, airbrushed, Photoshopped, and shot in soft focus. There is not time in history in which this was not true.

2. You proceeded to describe Greek women in general as fat and trailer trash. Regardless of whether that was true or not, it's offensive and rude to say something like that to members of the group that you are denigrating. The only thing that it leads to is "No, we're not." "Yes, you are." "No, we're not." "Yes, you are." Gentlemen don't describe women in these terms.

3. When you were told to knock it off and then banned, you came back to double down on your rude, offensive behavior by describing a specific group of Kappa Delta women who you view as "poor white trash." Again, gentlemen don't describe women in these terms.

4. After being so incredibly judgmental and rude that you were BANNED for it, you return you now say that you don't view yourself as better than the women you are judging. Here's a clue: if you judge someone negatively, you are expressing a feeling that you are superior to them and have the right to judge them. By judging the appearance of women, you are relegating them to an inferior role as a sex object.

5. You seem completely unaware that Greek women exist for a reason other than to be sexually appealing to men in general and you in particular. As I said "Be hot" is not in the mission statement of most orgs.
