Recruitment dress ideas for chapters
ITTW share ideas for recruitment dress for actives.
I saw this and went "OMG how adorable would this be for Kappa Delta?" Yes, it says conch shell, but it reads nautilus to me! http://www.modernsalon.com/hair-phot...144938795.html |
I agree. It does look like a nautilus shell.
|
hey hey! these salons are about 10 minutes in either direction from my work. Next time I have to get my hair done for an event, I want to try this out.
|
I don't know what it's like in other parts of the country, but as a PNM, I would FREAK if I saw identical hair styles on every collegian.
|
I wish the directions were more specific than "using the normal technique for creating a fishtail braid...." What is this technique? That's kind of a key piece of missing information.
Anyway, I think it looks cool...I love creative up-dos. It would be a neat look for pref for some members to have. It looks like you need long, thick hair for the right look. Now I want to see a crescent braid! |
LOL! It wouldn't work for the chapters which do the hair tossing!
Said out of pure jealousy, as I only wish I had enough hair to do that! |

I could see it at prefs with a pretty dress and heels. Very ladylike.

Same here. I'd be a little creeped out; but, then again, I'm not in the south! It is a very pretty braid, though! |
Maybe not every member - but for pref, those doing the ritualistic presentation matching would be cool.

This thread seems to be not so much about outfits as hairstyles.
On pref night at my school, the ladies' rooms in the student center REEKED of hairspray. (The men's rooms on the two floors where pref parties took place were temporarily turned into ladies' rooms. Poor guys - the men's rooms probably also reeked of hairspray for a few days after rush - LOL) My hair is stick-straight and simply will not hold an updo in the absence of liberal amounts of ozone-hole-creating product (and even then, it falls within an hour). Fortunately, when I blow out my hair and let it fall naturally, it looks very attractive, so that's what I did for pref. |
When I started the thread, I had in mind dress as "getting dressed" - head to toe - but would love to see some actual dresses.
|
Not quite for clothes, but for name tags, I'm a big fan of professional-looking magnetic tags that take up minimal time on the part of the recruitment team. Today, I saw that my FAVORITE button company (yes - I have a favorite button company), has come out with "clothing magnets", or basically buttons with a magnetic backing. (ETA: purebuttons.com is the website)
The 1.75" x 2.75" Rectangle would be perfect for name tags: http://www.purebuttons.com/cp/Pure_B...?1398273045788 The design would all have to be the same, but I'm thinking you could easily write a name with paint pen, glitter glue, permanent marker, etc. The price is great, especially if you have a large chapter or can go in with another chapter: 50+ = $1.45 each 100+ = $1.40 each 250+ = $1.21 each 500+ = $0.96 each Some Inspiration: http://www.busybeaver.net/blog/wp-co...6/IMG_6758.jpg http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/73...8b96c3a840.jpg |
Short Hair
How on earth is this going to happen with girls with short hair?
Hello? Bobbed hair, flippy bobs? Stacked hair? Emma Watson cuts? Oh wait it won't happen with short hair! Then again do girls in the south know what a short hair cut is? Aside from the 1960s and 1970s cuts? |
They do. Remember, the hair flipping video was of west coast girls.

It looks as if some companies are trying to fill a niche for matching recruitment clothing for actives: http://www.frillclothing.com/sorority/ http://www.gamedayandsororitydresses...ategory/style/ This blogger wrote about recruitment outfits for chapters: http://southernsorority.blogspot.com...t-outfits.html And also "Bad Recruitment Outfits" for actives: http://southernsorority.blogspot.com...t-outfits.html |
Checked out the blogs: I LOLed at her criticism of the AGDs in what she thought were yellow striped skirts. Unless another AGD chapter does this, this is the Auburn chapter and those are aprons that they wear OVER their outfits on philanthropy day.
And she doesn't like cotton in hot weather but loves Lilly? What does she think those dresses are made of? She did have some nice choices of "do" outfits. |
I really liked all of her "don't" outfits. They were classy, tasteful, pretty, and stylish.

I agree with her comment that the dresses monogrammed across the chest look cheap. But the comment about cotton in summer made no sense at all. I'm not really a fan of all dresses matching (maybe memories of Serious Night long ago -- looking like bridesmaids all bedecked in matching Qiana). I think I do like different dresses in the same colors -- or I like these anyway -- I guess easy to do in Lilly if your colors are pink and green: http://classyinconnecticut.files.wor...9/img_3019.jpg |
They all look so cute, but I think sandals would look better than the nude pumps.
(And just in case my response wasn't clear, I was laughing at the blogger and her misinterpretation of the AGDs ensembles, not at the Auburn AGDs, who are a terrific chapter.) |

As for Lilly dresses, I love Lilly dresses in general but I don't think they're a good idea during recruitment. One chapter at Clemson wore Lilly during their philanthropy round and while the girls looked cute individually there was no cohesiveness as a group. It was also very difficult to tell who was a PNM and who was an active because they all looked so alike. A Lilly theme for Bid Day would look cute if the chapter and campus culture on the whole supported it. |

It wasn't Lilly, but when I went through rush I had the exact same dress as the Gamma Phis, only with the colours reversed; they wore red with blue polka dots and I had blue with red polka dots. Very awkward. Another rushee asked if I was the president and that's why my dress was different.

I think the blogger was spot on regarding the minnie mouse on one girl. Most other comments were ridiculous.
|
I do think some styles of the sorority embroidered letter dress look like bathing suit cover ups.
