I'm basically still a kid because...

After reading the cereal discussion going on in the D&R Random thread, I figured I'd start this thread so we could all list the things we still do today as adults that we also did when we were younger.

I'm basically still a kid because...

- I love cereals like Lucky Charms, Fruity Pebbles, and Trix (and I pick out all the blue ones and throw them out!)

- I eat fruit snacks (more specifically, strawberry fruit roll ups), and I still call them "red chewy things", which is what my mom called them when my brother and I were really young

- I love to color! I would be completely entertained for an entire day if someone just gave me crayons and a coloring book

- One word: Legos!

WestcoastWonder 03-24-2014 07:43 PM

-I'm the size of a child. Seriously. I haven't grown since the 8th grade and I can fit a 14 in the little girls section. I still fit my school uniform from 5th grade as well :o

-I'm addicted to candy. Sweet, sour, chocolate, with nuts or without, i'm in.

-Getting me to drink any sort of cough syrup is out of the question and I will avoid it at all costs, which is odd because I don't mind getting shots at all, but cough syrup? no way.

All this!

And if I need a quiet place to study or relax, I am not ashamed to make a blanket fort. That is where I often end up during finals and will probably be where the majority of my dissertation is written.

I have to resist buying those huge boxed snacks from Costco because if I do, they'll be gone in a day!

I love cartoons, scooby doo, the smurfs. I also love Mac and cheese as well as those toto os pizzas, that I called cardboard pizzas cause they come in cardboard boxes. I also still love laying on the floor with pillows. I get called immature a lot by some of my friends, but I just say they are jealous cause they are not comfortable doing these things.

- I binge-watch Degrassi.

- I sometimes sing "Grown Ups Come Back" from Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. (I do not have children)

- Other songs I sing: the theme song to "Mysterious Cities of Gold" and "Silverhawks"

- I, too, eat sugary cereals like Lucky Charms and Trix

- I pick things up with my feet.

Original or New Generation? I'm assuming the former but figured I should ask.

So funny you posted this. I was just musing over how I still can't iron a shirt. Pants, skirts, I'm OK on. But not shirts.

"There's no point being grown-up if you can't be childish sometimes."

(And if you have to ask who the Doctor is, you don't know me very well. See what I did there? ;) )

Every winter since I have been a homeowner, I've tried to build a snow cat on my front lawn. Not a snowman, a snow cat. (Yup... I'm a cat person.) I was disappointed this year because, although we got a shitload of snow, it was mostly the light fluffy type - not packing snow. :(

Seeeee I can't iron my pants "with creases." They always come out crooked!

I frequently find myself humming or "dooo-do-do"-ing to the theme song from 'Doug'.

...this is odd? If so, I guess I should add this to my list as well. No, I refuse. I'm going to rock my toe dexterity.

I:

*Am a picky eater. I try not to pout if there are red peppers, carrots, bacon, squash, or mushrooms in my food (...for starters...), but it's a challenge.

*Separate colored candies (like M&Ms) into color piles and eat the piles one by one, leaving the green ones until last.

*Still want the corner piece of cake with all of the frosting. (In fact, sometimes my sister and I fight over it, and we are 40 and 38 respectively.)

*Hate going to bed. I was always the kid who begged for 5 more minutes, and now I'm a grownup (supposedly) and nobody makes me go to bed. Of course, I then struggle out of bed late every morning.

This is me, too! In the morning, I think, "That's it.. TONIGHT I'm going to bed early"….. and then nighttime comes, and I think, "Eh, what's another half hour… and another.. and another…" and then the cycle starts all over again the next day :p

- Love candy. LOVE candy. Anything Haribo will do.

- Love playing boardgames and pout when I lose.

Next Generation (2001 to present). I watched the originals many times over when they came on PBS and again when they came out on DVD. But I am finding that I missed a lot of the first seasons of TNG. (But I have faithfully watched when they first aired since about the time JT got stabbed to death.)

AOX81 03-25-2014 08:37 AM

I will never give up my Lucky Charms. My hubby will never give up his Fruity Pebbles.

I have clothes from the 80s and 90s that I still fit into. I am 38...

I'm still a picky eater. I've gotten a little bit better over years.

I use Downy Wrinkle Releaser instead of ironing my clothes.

Damn you and your spoilers! (jokes - but I always find myself around folks who spoil movies and TV shows I've always been meaning to watch. I STILL don't want anyone to tell me how LOST ends.)

I'm a big kid because...

I still pout about cleaning my room.
Love to fill up my cereal bowl with milk (we were milk conservatives growing up, and since I live alone, a quart of milk goes bad if I don't use it quickly enough).
Almost always get sprinkles on my ice cream
blow bubbles in my drink when no one's looking

I also might jump on the bed when in a hotel.

I have a nightly battle with this too. Like Jerry Seinfeld said, it's Night Guy vs. Morning Guy. Night Guy wants to stay up late and figures "Screw Morning Guy, it's his problem if he has to get up early."

Basically I'm still a kid because I don't have any, so there's no one to make me feel old and no reason to act my age! :p

Finally! Another adult that watches Degrassi! My younger sister got me hooked on the earlier seasons and i've been obsessed ever since. Although, I haven't watched the newer seasons (anything beyond season 10). I love the original TNG cast with Paige, Spinner, Jimmy, JT, Emma, Liberty etc.

I honestly like the newer cast members better than the older cast! I suppose its apples and oranges, but I think maybe the newer hires were better trained as actors.

I'm with you on Degrassi! I used to have the earlier seasons on DVD. I used to live in Michigan so we somehow managed to swing a Canadian TV station in pre-cable days. :)

Looks like you can watch full episodes on youtube. :)

-I still sing the old Toys-R-Us jingle (especially, when I am in denial about my adult status).
-I still have (and love) the Wishbone stuffed animal I got for Christmas in the 5th grade.

Haha, I do this too!

IrishLake 03-29-2014 10:51 PM

I read YA fiction.
I also prefer to eat sugary kids cereals, mostly because my mom NEVER let us when I was a kid. (My children don't know how good they have it).
I play an online game that is also played by 80% children.
I threw a shitfit when SoapNetwork went off the air. Not having my old school 90210 available on weekend mornings sucks. I miss "Breakfast in Bed."
I don't separate laundry by color. If something is really dark, I might keep it out and wash it on it's own. But that's about it.
I brush my daughters' My Little Pony's hair, Barbie's hair, and American Girl doll hair. I cannot stand ratty doll hair, ever.
I don't know how to cook well. Pancakes, grilled cheese, eggs, chicken n noodles, sloppy joes, and burgers is about my extent.
A happy Saturday is when I sleep until 10AM, read in bed until noon, get food, and read in bed the rest of the day and shirk all responsibilities.
I make those stupid bracelets. All of them.

Don't worry...even if someone tried to explain it, they'd probably fail miserably. I watched that show religiously, but it got more and more complicated. I think I'd have to go back and watch the whole thing again to really put it all together, and I don't have that kind of time.

lunalovegood 04-04-2014 12:42 AM

I still sleep with stuffed animals.
I love Avatar: The Last Airbender.
All those "kid foods" like chicken nuggets (McDonalds... yum), mac 'n cheese, Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes... I really think my dentist hates me from the sheer amount of sugar I eat.
My ideal ice cream is a soft serve chocolate/vanilla twist with rainbow sprinkles.
I'm very excitable. I think it might be a little off-putting, but most days I'm visibly happy and cheerful about the smallest things and I'll make up songs for 90% of the things I'm doing at the time.

Ditto. I kind of fell off with the newer cast. Not that they aren't good, I just don't deal well when the cast changes over. My favorite season was 4.

Ditto. I am EXTREMELY expressive. When I'm happy, I giggle until my nose wrinkles, jump up and down, and all sorts of "un-adult" responses. My friend has nicknamed one of my expressions as "the wonder face." When I get overwhelmed with the awesomeness of something, my eyes go big and my mouth falls open. I have tried to find a face that's a little more dignified but you know what, it's my face and it's not changing any time soon. ;)
